WET! Wet, windy and miserable. However having had everyone out for their exercise or training, they are all back inside with heaters on and dry bedding. A treat for everyone and a couple of hours downtime. A hot shower for me & change of clothes needed!!

Sent a young dog for this. Thought it was odd he didn’t pick as a simple retrieve. Sent Keepa. He didn’t pick. Only 24 hrs after returning from the championship and briar is our picking up. Sent briar and she seemed to take longer than she should so I walked over. There is a ditch in this hedge meaning this bird was approx 5-6 foot off the ground. Rubbish video but what you can just see is briar actually climbed the thorns to pick!!! Such a clever girl ❤️⭐️🐶

I was very lucky to have @game_and_wildlife_advisor @robert.swift.54 and a couple of other good guns to shoot a handful of pheasant, duck, snipe and pigeon for me. Lovely evening, some good retrieves and excellent shooting.

Instinct is an incredible thing in dogs. Make sure when choosing a breed, you research and like their instincts! Moaning because a Malinois is intense is like moaning that water is wet. A little movie night with the children and mamba happily settles but so rarely switches off guard mode. She puts herself in a position where anyone/anythjng new enters the room, they will have to pass her first. This isn’t aggression necessarily, just the desire to greet and control what comes in. I don’t fight it but allow her to lie where she feels she can do her job the best. If someone arrives then I normally step in and ensure I decide who’s ok or not. But she is with me every step & more importantly involved. It’s not about getting rid of these traits, but moulding them to be manageable and productive for both sides.
This is the same whether it’s a spaniels hunting instinct or GSD guarding, or border collie herding. An outlet for the drive is imperative, but management is also needed

People often ask me how much training I do with puppies. In truth, hardly anything. I don’t teach heel, sit etc. however what I do teach is that I am the most fun thing to be with. That basically involves a lot of play & ensuring I control the environment. Eg I do not allow a lot of free play with other dogs or people. They play with my pack. I then teach manners. I teach him to be safe & polite within a pack. My dogs obviously do a lot of this. But around food it can be dangerous. If my older dogs correct him, they could seriously hurt him. So I correct instead. This way he learns he does NOT touch anyone else’s food but without the risk of being hurt by another dog. My older dogs know & trust that I will step in so are mega relaxed in the knowledge they don’t have to guard. This skill sets him up for later life with Gundog work. He understands not to steal retrieves.
Here thunda at 17 weeks has already been fed. I feed the rest of them in front of him. I don’t need him to sit, stay, heel etc. just understand that we don’t steal. Very simple. This simple skill can be the difference between a serious fight & a happy content pack of dogs.
The rest of his training will come in time. But the fact he will already remain with me no matter what is around and can be safe amongst a pack of 9 adult dogs is invaluable and makes my life as he grows so much easier.
