This dear little dog NEVER lets anyone down. At 10 years old on a very hot day she had one go at a junior open scurry. It’s pretty rare that the dogs age far exceeds the handler but this duo have such a bond. What a fabulous win for them both. Makes me so proud watching them ❤️❤️🐶🐶🐶🔥⭐️⭐️

WORKSHOP WEDNESDAY
MASTERCLASS 1: STRAIGHT-LINING
Ellena used Swiftlands Dark Winta - 13 months, and two of her Field Trial Award winning dogs: Swiftlands Hela and Swiftlands River (both aged between 2 and 3) to demonstrate how she trains straight lines - from early stages to more advanced.
Ellena's more experienced dog who qualified for last years Retriever Championships by winning a 2 day Open Trial, Swiftlands Briar, would have loved to have joined in (and was found creeping out to attempt to join in a number of times!!!) but had a litter of pups to tend to.
After that, Ellena coached the small group with their own dogs and worked to remediate problems that each handler had with their specific dog.

It’s incredible what 48 hrs of mums milk can do. All 9 are so much bigger already. They spend their whole time either laying in a milk coma or feeding! Very little noise from any of them. She is such a careful, conscientious mummy.

Over the course of the next few months, Swift Dog Training will be offering masterclass sessions which will focus on a specific area of training. As well as working with your own dogs, Ellena will also use her own dogs, from young novice up to her experienced Field Trial / Test award winning dogs to demonstrate concepts.

*****UPDATE****
We are slowly settling into our new location but are having a couple of teething problems. Firstly our WiFi is not working and not likely to be for a little while sadly. This means that we are struggling to send videos etc or get updates online in a timely manner. We are working hard to resolve this so please bear with.
Secondly the location on Google is still incorrect! Despite updating it immediately upon moving, it is still showing as our old location. Again we are working hard to resolve this and trying to ensure everyone is contacted individually so they have the correct information but please understand these are issues.

What did you do on your Sunday afternoon? I took this opportunity to use my dad’s impressive shooting skills to get some game training in for my new youngster; Trent. #swiftlandshela also came for a trip. The interesting thing about the four dogs here; two of them are entire stud dogs. One of the bitches is in season. Now whilst I don’t condone taking a bitch in season on a shoot day; it is just another distraction a dog must learn to ignore. Hard; yes. Impossible, clearly not! Sometimes a bitch maybe coming into season & the owner doesn’t know. She may just smell good all the time (like poor Nala despite being spade!). So if you have the opportunity to train around a distraction like this, it is a great opportunity and a chance to prepare for the unexpected. So much fun today. All of my dogs have a place. They earn certain privileges and rights as they get older. For example sofa cuddles are more often reserved for the older dogs. The youngsters occasionally get invited but not nearly as often as their elders. Here the dogs know who is allowed out first. Nala aged 10 is always first out. Keepa (a big weight difference between these two!🤣❤️) at 8 second. Then briar (who still smells nice so Keepa wanted to greet her!). Then Hela, Mamba and finally Winta. There is no individual name calling, lots of ‘wait, stay stay, no, back’ etc. Far too complicated for all the verbal queues. I indicate with my hand for a dog to move forwards and they now know the order. If I didn’t want a particular dog & wanted a different order I would then use their individual names. This wouldn’t cause any issues, as they understand their own names. What really makes me chuckle is mambas groaning, Keepa trying to get some love off briar (flatly refused!) and Winta coming out like a bloody missile! Keep your training simple. As much a possible use visual queues as opposed to verbal. Wow what a year so far! We’ve had a hectic four months starting with surgery. Surgery was tough and knocked me harder than I envisaged. Just to make you all chuckle, here is me coming round from anaesthetic and guess what the first thing is talk about?! Dogs obviously. More specifically worrying about England Selection and how I need to work on my cast with Briar 🤣🤦♀️ Thank you all for your on going support and now I’m fully recovered, I look forwards to sharing an exciting year ahead! This is a very good example of a balanced correction. Normally I would step in & advocate for my girl before this happened; but mamba is very balanced, calm & confident so it was a good opportunity to take a video for educational purposes. If you see your dog asking for space like this, & it is pestered - step in. Be the voice for your dog. If mamba or the BC was not balanced, this could end up a fight or one of them getting hurt. I know both dogs so knew in this instance it would not result in this. Mamba is not in season or close to being. She was told to lie down which she did. She asked the boy to back off several times & eventually enforced this. Note how she immediately came to me for support/reassurance. I then gave her that & kept her with me so she didn’t have to ask him again. Note she never actually makes contact. A balanced correction rarely involves actual damage. The BC simply carried on with his day, no offence taken & would try again at a later date. If you see your dog pestering another, whether it is ‘just playing’, bitching or even challenging, step in! It is not another dogs job to educate your dog in etiquette. The same as it is not a strangers job to educate my kids in good manners. Note how quick her reaction is. This also shows how quickly things can go wrong. Imagine this was a totally different circumstance & mamba was the family pet resource guarding around children. There is no way a human could avoid that correction it was so quick. Mambas signs for space are obvious & clear. Not all are. No: This boy is not a strangers dog, or an issue & neither is the owner.
