Trying to warm up this morning
We got him through.
My first professional brush with Separation Anxiety in dogs.
Wishing you and yours a very Happy Christmas. Enjoy your time with your family four legged and two.
Another little red star. Bertie! Likes - climbing on things (puppy parkor) & rocking recalls. And he's coming on great in everything else too.
It's far too long since I shared some puppylicious with you! Meet Daisy. Doing ever so well with everything. She is one of the four different Fox Reds I have on the books at the mo, funny how that goes.
Just a dog. Eating her carrot. Why does this sound make me so happy?
Smoking out of sight Recall
Ahhhh a lovely bit of normal, this morning. Smokey doing a fabbo out of sight Recall, with the whistle. Just four months old. It's absolutely do-able for me to see my puppy clients and continue with training and socialisation tasks, during this funny time. What a little star!
Nomi's nom noms
Ice lolly stick for peanut butter delivery during muzzle training. Absolutely brilliant progress for Nomi and Jenny. Nomi is spending longer and longer in the muzzle, remaining relaxed and happy. Even when the magic stick isn't being offfered. This process takes patience and time to do without stress. Nomi is now jumping up into position as soon as she sees the muzzle appear and pops her nose in and waits for the nom noms to appear. So happy with them!
Sneaky Peek! I'm putting this together in a little infographic/eBook download. Here's a little preview, should be ready to go this week.
The Dogs Days of Summer. A little slide show of some of the lovlies I've been working with this summer. I wonder what/who the Autumn will bring?
๐ฃ๐ข๐ง๐ผ๐ผ๐, ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐, ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ผ๐ผ๐ผ๐๐๐๐๐! ๐ฃ๐ขThat's me blowing my own Trumpet (didn't you guess?). I'm not a raving ego maniac. I AM a one-woman band whose business is supported by positive reviews and client-client referrals. So with no apology and a lot of gratitude, here's a couple of excerpts from two reviews received last week.

Introducing...Chocky ROCKY. Who's a bit delish then?
Puppy Rocky, absolutely rocking (soze) his Loose Lead Walking, watch out for his Check In, and well timed Mark & Reward. He is doing so well all round - I'm delighted for his hoomans (and only a little bit jealous).

Staying connected during off lead walks
How do you keep in touch with each other?
Here's one of my friends Harry's favourites.... catching up with a Hand Touch. This physical signal always gives Harry a speed boost!
Sorry about the heavy breathing everyone. I WAS SOOO COLD
Tilly - Sit with a little distance, duration & Distraction
Outside with lots of distractions, including noisy Jackdaws. Well done Tilly!
Pocket Rocket Posy Training Walks
Say Hello to my friend Posy (a long term client) we're practising our Connected Walking (off lead) in a wide open space around her favourite distraction .......... birds!
She responds so well to verbal praise and offers lots of natural check ins. You can see what a busy bee she is!
And Oh Yes you may spot her mugging the treat bag. We LOVE a Chancer!!!
Tilly plus Harness - Let the Games Begin!
What happens when your puppy turns attempts to put her harness on into play, chase, tug and biting hands?
So that it becomes a task too difficult for anyone to do on their own?
She's fine in her harness once it's on (see walking video).
We don't want to corner her,
Force her or in any way make gearing up an adversive experience.
I think Terrific Tilly has the answer!
Terrific Tilly - takes a walk
12 week old Tilly the Airedale puppy rocking her practise session
Here's Tilly!
Today we're practising a little Loose Lead Walking aka, walking without pulling ahead on the lead, aka Connected Walking.
Ideally we don't want to 'Lead' with a leash we want the leash to be a safety measure rather than a directional aid. Our handler (Emily) is holding the leash up and away slightly as our friend Tilly is sometimes tempted to bite the lead! As she becomes less distracted by the equipment we can relax our arm more.
Emily isn't pulling on or using the lead to steer Tilly.
Plus, our side of this skill takes learning too and we becme more co-ordinated and relaxed as we practise.
Here's our Top Tips for teaching this skill
1. Relax
2. Keep rewards frequent
3. Encourage- Smile and talk to pup as you go
4. Change direction as you go
5. Keep sessions short and sweet
6. Start early
7. Ensure that pup is absolutly comfortable with any equipment used harnesses/leads.
8. Remember you can practise this skill without harnesses and leads (where safe to do so) too
