Whilst the store is primarily for rehabbers, I am aware that members of the public sometimes order food from the store when they find a bird. This can be a problem, particularly at this time of year when the store is really busy, as it may take a few days for the food to arrive.

This guide is an appendix from my book - A beginner's Guide to rearing Wild Birds - Fifth Edition and gives a basic guide of what to feed birds in an emergency situation (as long as they are not dehydrated or injured - in those instances, please see a vet or rehabber asap). It will also be available as a free download from the store shortly 😊

My rearing formula has been used for over 20 years by Rehabbers for rearing baby birds from T**s and Robins to Jackdaws and Crows.

It comes in 3 different sizes for the one-off rehabber to the busy hospital and is still made in-house by me, so I can make sure only the best ingredients are used.

I am currently despatching in 1-2 business days, so whilst it's nice and quiet (not for long I'm sure) get your orders in for the 2023 season ahead!!

Our Insect Mix has always contained crushed Berries, crushed Seeds, Crustaceans and Molluscs plus dried insects such as Daphnia and Bloodworm but it also now contains dried maggots which really encourage your baby Insectivores to pick up and begin to wean.

Anyone who uses our baby bird recipe including cat or kitten Applaws please note there is a product recall due to a possible link to incidences of Pancytopenia in Cats. As this can also affect baby birds, please do not use until further notice! There is no issue with the dog or puppy varieties which is what our pre-made packs of formula contain.

No, it’s not some odd ritual symbol! 😂 It’s a simple pattern for a shoe splint.

Someone recently asked me about strapping a Robin’s foot and this universal pattern can be resized to fit teeny birds, using cereal box cardboard, to large birds such as the beastie in the photo, using a SAM splint.

The black shape is the pattern for the shoe and the grey parts indicate where the tape should cross.

Pigeons are amazing to handrear even though they get a little over excited at dinner times! They take much less frequent feeding than other birds due to their crop size and I’ve always believed that the best way to feed them is by gavage.

I always found the metal tubes too inflexible and the Catac teats a bit short and far too thick for tinies, so around 7 years ago, I came up with the idea of a specialised silicone tube tightly attached to a syringe. They come in 3 sizes to fit 2ml syringes for hatchlings, 10ml syringes for squabs and 20 ml syringes for adults.

The tubes are clear silicone, food grade tubes that can be sterilised and so are reusable. Available from the website all year round.
