'Im still shaking as I write this. Last night, our beloved dog, Lucy’s, woke us up in the middle of the night with the most terrifying bark I've ever heard. It wasn't her usual playful yip, it was a deep, urgent howl that sent shivers down my spine.

We stumbled out of bed, confused and disoriented, only to be met by a thick cloud of smoke billowing in through the window. Panic surged through me as I realized there was a fire! Thankfully, Lucy’s didn't stop barking, snapping us into action.

We dialled emergency services immediately and raced outside to see flames engulfing the workshop across the street. Our hearts pounded as we imagined the fire spreading to our house next. Thankfully, the fire department arrived quickly and heroically managed to extinguish the flames before they could reach us.

But it was all thanks to our furry little hero that we even knew about the fire in the first place! Come to find out, her frantic barking also woke up several other neighbours who called in help too. The fire department said it made a huge difference in their response time.

We're so incredibly grateful to Lucy's for saving our lives (and probably our neighbors' lives too!). We can't imagine what would have happened if she hadn't woken us up.

This whole experience has left us shaken, but also feeling incredibly lucky. And of course, unbelievably proud of our canine fire alarm!

I guess some dogs are just destined for greatness! 🐶🔥

"Sometimes if you give them a clue. Sometimes they get it wrong though.
Below is a photo of Elle who apparently thought I might be leaving her. I was packing up to move along with my aunt, Kitty the cat, and Elle. Apparently Elle thought that she might be left behind so when I was loading up my truck, she snuck out and hopped into the passenger side and refused to budge. No way was she going to let me leave without her. We weren’t going to leave until the next day and it was really hard to get her to back into the house for the night. The next day when we did leave and she figured out that I never intended to leave her, she was about the happiest dog on Earth."

In the late 1980s, we were treated to many stunning collaborations between country star Dolly Parton and musical stars on The Dolly Show. A standout episode featured Holly Dunn as a guest. Dunn agreed to appear only if Parton would join her to sing "Daddy's Hands." The two delivered a heartfelt duet, trading verses and harmonizing on the chorus. So I was at the store earlier with my service dog. The lady in front of me at checkout had about $200 worth of toilet paper in her shopping cart. With an attitude she asked me what type of dog I had. I told her it was my service dog. Then she got real snarky and said, I knew that. What type of service? I said he was a BLD. By now he was licking her face and hands being super friendly. She said, what is a BLD? I told her it stood for Butt Licking Dog. She said Butt Licking Dog? I said yeah, he has been trained to lick my butt clean because I can't seem to be able to find toilet paper because of hoarders. The cashier completely lost

Eclipse, a dog who gained notoriety for riding Seattle’s city bus alone, died in her sleep on Friday, according to her owner-run Facebook account. She was 10 years old.
The big red bus with three doors had been a fixture of Eclipse's daily routine for years, owner Jeff Young told USA TODAY. Several green and yellow buses stopped right outside of Young's apartment, but Eclipse knew to take the red one to the dog park in Belltown because she had done it "a million times," Young said. He adopted Eclipse when she was just 10 weeks old.
In 2015, the black lab-bullmastiff mix dog began commuting without Young two to three times a week after sneaking on the bus alone while Young was smoking a cigarette. Eclipse knew exactly where to get off the bus by looking out the window, Young said. Eclipse would hop off the bus and "fly" straight to the dog park about a block and a half away.

"She would break off whatever conversation she was having or whatever interaction, jump down, go to the back door and start banging on the glass," Young said.
And since that first solo ride in 2015, Young had to keep a closer eye on Eclipse.
"The celebrity kind of got out of hand," Young said.
Young said Eclipse has been his "best friend" for the last 11 years.
"Missing her doesn't even cover it," he said.

In Virginia, in 2003, Johnny Cash sat down for his last-ever public performance. Helped by two gentlemen to his chair, Johnny stops to grab a plectrum from his pocket before being handed an acoustic guitar. He then says his trademark, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash", before embarking on his final performance. Despite having a nervous system disease, Johnny's performance was spectacular, as he played in his instantly recognizable style and still enjoyed every note played. "This is Andy. He works at the Lowes in Wilkesboro, NC. In the wheelchair is our rescue pup, Baxter. A couple weeks ago, my best friend and I took Baxter's cart to Lowes to find the correct hardware so we could attach an anti-tip rear wheel to Baxter's cart. We ended up at the project desk asking for someone who had imagination and could think outside the box. They called our new friend, Andy. Andy sat on the floor with us in the hardware department for a good hour, helping us. We left with a plan, the right hardware, and only $5 lighter.
After his vet visit, we took Baxter to Lowes so we could show Andy how his cart turned out. Andy was at the project desk when we arrived and he came out, sat right on the floor and introduced himself to Baxter as he checked out the anti-tip 3rd wheel. I explained how we had to tweak it a little more than anticipated....Andy gave it a good 'once over', and gave his seal of approval. I asked to see the manager so we could express how much we appreciated all the time Andy spent with us in trying to brainstorm our little project. His customer service and kindness were beyond what we had ever experienced and we needed to make sure it was acknowledged. The manager asked us to share the story on his page so he could, in turn, share it with Corporate.
You know that saying about how a little appreciation goes a long way? We truly felt that with Andy. He really seemed touched that we took the time to stop in to show him the final product and express our gratitude. He said he and his wife would love to dogsit Baxter if we ever need them to and gave us big hugs before we left. As Lolly said, 'Andy's reaction made my heart smile.' I agree completely. Feel free to share this and let Andy know how much the rescue community appreciates his help with our beloved Baxter's wheels. If you happen to live near Wilkesboro, NC, stop in Lowes and shake Andy's hand. He's a gem!"

It happened in Peru 🇵🇪
This young lady got on the bus known as a "burrita" accompanied by her pet 🐶 of hers, who after getting on it settled in very well to look at the landscape through the window during the entire journey.
This beautiful image was captured on Chinecas avenue in Nuevo Chimbote. The good driver of this unit allowed his faithful friend to get on and travel comfortably on the Bus.
This is a clear example of Love ❤️ and that wherever we go, we can go with our pet, because they are one more member of the family. 🐾🕊️

"A poem from a pound dog….
Today is the day that I shall die
My life was short and I don't know why
I don't yet know that this will be my fate
The humans just stood there at my gate
And in their eyes I saw their sorrow
They told me I had no more time to borrow
My 7 days have been and gone
I'm yet to know what I've done wrong
I greeted the humans with a waggling tail
But with their resolve seemed to fail
I did not understand why they cried
They told me again that they had tried
But rescues are full and I'm on death row
And this meant that I had nowhere to go
Except from that room at the end of the block
It was only then that I took stock
I've seen others go in and never come out
And it was at this point that I had no doubt
Today was the day that I would die
And yet I still did not understand why
As they led me kindly into that room
I knew my life would be over soon
The needle comes out and the drugs take effect
The humans hold me kindly with respect
This is the end, I'm going to die
And then suddenly I understood why
I was bred without a care, without thought or reason
Only because my mum came into season
I was bred to be sold, bred for money
At first my new family thought my antics were funny
But as the days passed by and the bigger I grew
Left home alone all day I began to chew
Soon they said this is not the place for me
So up went my ad onto Gumtree
Family dog free to a good home
Five months old and no fault of her own
Next, the place was even less fun
Kept in a cage with no hope of a run
Soon came the day of my first season
And now I was the one bred without reason
My pups were soon sold and I was alone
I really hope they have all found a loving home
Shut up in a cage alone and in the dark
For hours on end, I would just bark
Once again I became too much trouble
So up went my ad on Gumtree
The double work commitments forces sale
Only 10 months old, it’s a familiar tale
The next people seemed nice at first
But it was not long before the bubble burst
In this place, I was trained to fight
But they gave up on that as I refused to bite
They spoke to me as I was taken back to the crate
If you won't fight, we'll use you as bait
I was chained to a post by my collar
When other dogs attacked I would holler
This life went on like this for quite some time
But I was soon told I was past my prime
I thought we might have been going for a walk
Yet in the car was no talk
And slowly the car came to a halt
I was thrown out the door with a jolt
I stood and watched as the car sped away
It was cold and dark and I had nowhere to stay
It was by this road that I was eventually found
And was taken away by the local pound
And here I lie as I take my last breath
I have one thing to ask as I accept my death

Gone But Not Forgotten

This poem captures the heartbreaking journey of so many forgotten souls. It speaks to the innocence and loyalty of these animals, and the cruel reality they often face through no fault of their own. Though their lives are short and full of hardships, the love they offer is boundless and pure.

May this reminder stir compassion in all of us to be the voice for those who have none and cherish the love they give so freely.
