170 rabbits crammed into a garage.
It's clear from this rescue footage, that this isn't okay, yet we often see this type of housing being used for rabbits on smaller scales.
Barry and Bertie, a pair of our previous rehabilitation cases, came in from this very garage, and we were thankfully able to find them loving homes with spacious surroundings for them never to have to experience conditions like that again.
Do you know what the minimum size and safety requirements are to keep your buns happy and healthy? As part of Rabbit Awareness Week (do give them a follow!) see below:
https://rabbitawarenessactiongroup.co.uk/rabbit-welfare/environment/the-guide-to-rabbit-housing/
Rabbits need space to hop, run, jump, dig and stretch out fully when lying down. They need enough room to exercise and stand up fully on their back legs without their ears touching the roof. A proper setup includes separate areas for feeding, resting, and exercise.
Inadequate housing is the main cause of our rabbit applications having to be rejected 😔. Often owners aren't willing or able to adapt their existing sets ups to accommodate these welfare standards. Rabbits are classified as an exotic pet, and have complex needs to be met, but once you have their hearts, you will be rewarded endlessly 🐾
