❄️Yeah we have snow❄️
Today is a great opportunity to check out your dog’s paw prints.

There is so much information to be gained from your dog’s paw prints in the snow. By observing unusual movement patterns in your dog’s paws prints, information about your dog’s postures/gait can be observed, and can be early indicators of musculoskeletal issues.
What to look for:-

❄️Is each foot leaving a print of the same depth? Are some paw prints deeper than others or equally are some barely touching the snow

❄️ What pattern are they in? Are the prints in a straight line, are they even?

❄️ Do you notice any scuffing/dragging marks? Are the toe nails too long leaving a print on their own?

So take a look…

and have safe fun in the snow with your dog and why not post some photos below........................

A fantastic day of learning. Developing a deep connection with the body and appreciating how truly amazing we all are ❤️

This is becoming a welfare issue!

Im tired of hearing “the vet says there is no pain” by a guardian after they have taken their dog to the vet. It leaves me deflated and frustrated and feeling so sorry for the dog.

Myth Bust:

PAIN CANNOT BE RULED OUT IN ANY ANIMAL (dog, cat, horse or hamster), by anyone!

* A quick palpation - CANNOT RULE OUT PAIN

WHY?

The dog may shut down due to environmental factors or dislike of a strange human touching them, they keep still to get it over with ASAP!

The dog may be over aroused or overwhelmed by the clinical environment (excited/scared etc) to the point that adrenaline is so high it blocks pain!

* Blood Tests - CANNOT RULE OUT PAIN

There is currently NO blood test that can detect pain.

* Diagnostic imaging - CANNOT RULE OUT PAIN

Yes they can pick up a variety of conditions, but even the GOLD standard MRI doesn’t pick up everything, but NONE of them can detect PAIN.

Just because a source cannot be found doesn’t mean there is no pain.

PAIN is subjective, it is whatever that being (human or animal) perceives it to be!

Pain can come in many different forms, it is extremely complex, and can effect the individual in many different ways. A dog may get injured, the injury may have healed, but the pain remains … this is known as maladaptive pain.

Behaviour can be a HUGE indicator for PAIN:

* There could be a change of behaviour that has been directly caused by PAIN.

* There could be a worsening of behaviour due to an increase or new presence of PAIN.

* There could be a lack of “normal” behaviour due to PAIN.

* There could be behaviours that are present but that the guardian/owner don’t deem to be problematic that are indicators of PAIN.

* The dog may have ALWAYS displayed behaviours that are indicators of PAIN, but they have been ignored and put down to “just the way they are”.

* There may be NO problematic behaviours at all …. And the dog might still be in PAIN!

* The dog might be energetic, always on the go … and still be in PAIN.

* The dog might be lazy … and still be in PAIN.

* The dog may zoom up and down stairs … and still be in PAIN.

Diagnosing PAIN is not simple and can be difficult to get on top of.

A PAIN relief trail can be great! But often only one type of analgesic is tried and sometimes this doesn’t get results leading to the ASSUMPTION that there is no PAIN!

Here’s why:

* The drug was only trialed for 2 weeks - when living with chronic pain it can take longer to relieve. 2 weeks is not enough.

* The drug used wasn’t targeted to the type of pain the animal is feeling; soft tissue, bone, nerve or a combination of all.

It might take a number of different medications or a combination OVER TIME to see a difference.

ALWAYS keep in mind, NO ONE can rule out another being’s PAIN.

NO ONE. Not me. Not you. Not a Doctor. Not a Vet.

Here are 5 tips to help keep your dog safe with Halloween just around the corner:

🎃 Keep Chocolate and sweets out of reach: Chocolate, xylitol (found in sugar-free sweets), and other sweets can be toxic to dogs. Store it in secure, dog-proof containers and in high cupboards out of reach.

👻 Supervise Costumes: If your dog is wearing a costume, make sure it's comfortable, not restrictive, and doesn't have small parts they could chew or swallow.

🎃 Avoid Unsafe Decorations: Keep decorations like candles, string lights, and small objects out of your dog’s reach, as they can pose choking, electrocution, or fire hazards.

👻 Limit Access to Trick-or-Treaters: Constant doorbell ringing and strangers in costumes can stress dogs. Keep them in a quiet, secure room or use a baby gate/in a crate to avoid them dashing out the door or being spooked. Consider walking before dark where possible.

🎃 Watch for Fearful Reactions: Some dogs get scared of costumes, loud noises, or flashing lights. Monitor your dog’s behavior and provide a safe space if they seem anxious.

I’m really looking forward to the cpd in November - especially after reading such positive reviews from fellow Guild members ❤️

The last 2 days has seen the launch of my new course; Structural Series, Part 1 - Advanced Canine Indirect Myofascial Release. Over the next 2 months I will train 24 therapists in this profound therapy and continue with many more professional therapists next year.
This approach revolutionises what people think of as myofascial release and takes it to the next level to achieve life changing results with the dogs we work with.

What a great idea. I say to my clients that you don’t need to buy a raised water bowl- there’s so many different ways to get that bowl higher of the floor!!
As long as the plants are not toxic 😇❤️

Be sensible in this heat, please. The pavements get incredibly hot and can burn paws too.

⭐️⭐️Announcement - New offer!⭐️⭐️

For one day only we are offering a unique partnership opportunity with our friends at Momentum Clinical Canine Massage !

The 26th - June from 1pm!

For both daycare AND non-daycare dogs!

Louise at Momentum is a highly qualified canine massage therapist in the canine massage guild, who knows about everything muscular and ailments your dog might have that are anything from injuries to subtle changes in how they act everyday. Louise can pinpoint the issue, work her magic and start working with your dog to improve mobility, pain issues or recovery.

I speak from personal experience after using Louise monthly after my oldest Digby had an accident at 7 months old (he’s now 4) and after months of hydrotherapy and pain meds, since using Louise he’s been pain free and his behaviour issues linked to underlying pain have improved massively too! He loves her visits and of course cuddles.

See more about Louise and what massage is and how it can help your dog here;

https://momentumcaninemassage.co.uk/what-is-clinical-canine-massage/

If you’d like to book your FREE clinical assessment here at our centre with Louise comments or message us directly. Daycare dogs can be done while they are with us on the day so owners don’t have to be there if unavailable. Non daycare dogs you can pop up to us with your dog to get your muscular check done.

If you’ve noticed any changes in your dog physically, their behaviour, recovering from an injury, working dogs, competition dogs, or even if you’re just curious if your dog has any hidden issues, Louise can see if there is anything underlying that might need treatment even if very subtle, and from there advise on a plan with her.

Wow 🥰

Jules alerted Jade a few minutes before this picture was taken as he detected a change in her odour which meant she was about to collapse due to her condition, . She then knew that she needed to lie down. Before having Jules, this would have happened suddenly, without any warning and she suffered injuries such as black eyes and dislocations daily.

Momentum

Hello and welcome to Momentum Clinical Canine Massage (formerly Faithful Friends Canine Care).

I am fully insured for clinical canine massage, dog walking & dog grooming and a member of the Canine Massage Guild.

My 2 Springer Spaniels are my life and soul, as well as my husband and 2 male offspring of course!

After 25 years in the food industry, whilst raising a family including our first dog, I changed career direction and wanted to give back to those animals that give to us unconditionally every minute, every hour, every day.
