Quite important I feel
Poultry registration reminder...Action needed before October 1st 2024!
An important change is due to be introduced for all poultry keepers in England, Wales and Scotland which comes into effect from October 1st this year.
From that date, all poultry keepers will need to officially register their birds, regardless of flock size. The changes are designed to help manage potential disease outbreaks, such as avian influenza, and limit any spread.
Previously, only people with more than 50 birds were required to register, although keepers with fewer birds can register voluntarily. The new measures announced by Defra mean that registration will be mandatory even for someone with just one bird.
The registration rule comes into force on October 1st and poultry keepers will be required to review their register entry annually thereafter to ensure that their details are up to date. Bird keepers will need to provide information, including their contact details, the location where birds are kept and details of the birds (species, number and what they are kept for).
As well as helping manage disease outbreaks, the information on the register will also be used to identify all bird keepers in disease control zones, allowing for more effective surveillance and enabling zones to be lifted at the earliest opportunity.
