Letting your dog cool down by going for a swim seems like the ideal way to keep them cool, but it is important to be aware of the dangers water brings.🐶🌊
Male and female can spray whether neutered or not. Spraying can be a normal behaviour but can also be a and anxiety. Some reasons for spraying can include normal territory-marking behaviour, attracting a mate during mating season, stress due to environment changes, addition of new cats in the home, or feeling threatened. 🐈

Why do cats scratch?🤔
generally scratch for 3 different reasons. They scratch with their claws by dragging them downward, either on a horizontal or vertical surface. 🐱
1) This helps to loosen and remove the outer husk of the claw revealing a sharp new surface underneath.🐾
2) Scratching also helps to exercise their muscles of the forelimbs and spine keeping the cat in good condition.🐾
3) Scratching is also used a form of marking or territorial communication. The scent and sweat glands in between the pads of the feet mix to produce a unique smell.🐾
When claws are scraped down a surface, the scent is deposited and the combination of the mark, discarded claw husks and the smell provides a strong visual and scent message to other cats.🐈
lick themselves and others for various reasons, and it's a natural behaviour that serves several purposes. When a cat licks you or another cat this can be a sign of trust or affection. They can also lick to control body temperature, to soothe painful areas, to reduce stress, to seek attention or for taste and exploration. 🐱
While licking is generally a normal and healthy behaviour, excessive licking, especially in one area, could be a sign of an underlying issue such as an allergy, skin problems, or pain. If you notice any changes in your cat's grooming habits or behaviour, contact your veterinary practice for further advice.🐾

is often described as ‘the teenage phase’, because the behaviour changes we see in dogs can be very similar to those we see in adolescent humans. You may hear people describe their as being rebellious, but they really aren’t planning a takeover, they are just dealing with the challenges of canine puberty!🐶

Dogs don’t tolerate as well as humans do. Unlike us, dogs typically rely on panting to keep themselves cool and panting is the most important way in which a dog regulates its temperature. 🥵
However, because they only have sweat glands in their feet and around their nose, they are less efficient than we are at cooling themselves down.🐶

Welcome to OSCAR Pet Foods Westhoughton
Hello! It’s Jayne and Christine, your local OSCAR Pet Foods Nutritional Advisors, covering Westhoughton, Lostock, Chew Moor, Blackrod, Hindley, Atherton, Astley and Leigh. We offer a personal service delivering dog food, cat food and small animal food, together with accessories, treats and healthcare products.
We are qualified in Companion Animal Nutrition (CertCan QCF Level 3) and are able to use this knowledge within the areas of diet and nutrition, feeding regimes and the effects of nutrition of the behaviours of dogs and cats to support all our customers and their pet’s health and well-being.
By providing the right nutritional diet, we have helped customers with their pet’s weight control, allergies (where food is identified to be a factor) and dietary issues often the cause of tummy upsets and runny poos. We let the pets try the food to see if they like it - no point buying something they won’t eat.
OSCAR - a British company using natural ingredients with no artificial flavours, colourings or preservatives, packaged in recyclable packaging and containers, with an honestly-labeled product naming 100% analysis, all backed up by a money-back guarantee and delivered free to your door.
Through volunteering for Guide Dogs for The Blind, at the Atherton centre, Kayley came into our lives, she now enjoys her new role as chief taster of treats and thrives on Adult Complete Lamb & Rice.
If you need advice on your pet’s diet, please give us a call. We are able to provide you with added support for you and your pet as OSCAR has a team of experts in behaviour, nutrition and veterinary matters on hand to help.
