I really recommend doing this course if you have a flat-faced four legged friend.
(I have competed a Dog First Aid Course with them - I learn a lot).

DOG-FIRST-AID.COM

They're undoubtedly adorable, so obviously many of us, well, adore them!

But with those gorgeous squooshy faces come some very specific (and sometimes very complex) needs.

The cost of cuteness.

1. Heavy wrinkles
Excessive skin folds
can become
infected if not
cleaned regularly.

2. Smushed face
Narrowed airways can
cause breathing
problems, exercise
and heat intolerance,
vomiting and difficulty.

3. Overly large head
Birthing difficulties are
common due to head
size. Studies have found
more than 80% of bull
dog breeds are born
through c-section.

If you do have a flat-faced four-legged friend it's well worth the £29.99 for our online Flat-Faced Dog Breeds Awareness course to make sure you know exactly how to give them the happiest, healthiest life possible!

Margaret Green Animal Rescue

Let's introduce you to Milo...

Hello, my name is Milo and I am a 9 month old, male Whippet cross. I can get a little bit over-excited when meeting new dogs, as I really want to play!

Therefore, the staff here think that I would be best suited to being the only dog in the household, whilst I continue my training. I would love to try out puppy classes, to learn some new tricks and further my socialisation.

I am a lovely, affectionate boy who would be happy to live with older children, but I would prefer not to live with small furries.

Could you offer me a forever home? Check out the website here: https://www.margaretgreenanimalrescue.org.uk/product337 and contact the team at Lincoln Farm to find out more information.

Margaret Green Animal Rescue re homes some of 96 dogs from puppy farm.

CHARITY workers from Dorset described scenes as 'some of the worst they had witnessed' after being called to rescue dogs from a puppy farm.

Margaret Green Animal Rescue has homed some of the 96 dogs that were retrieved from a property in Torquay, Devon.

It came after the charity was informed by the RSPCA that a property contained a large number of dogs in need of support.

Upon arrival, charity workers along with others from establishments in the animal welfare sector discovered a scene described as the worst they had ever seen in decades.

A total of 96 visibly shaken Shih-Tzu dogs were found, with the youngest less than a couple of weeks old, while many of the females were pregnant.

Such was the disregard for the dogs, much of their fur had become matted and they were all riddled with faeces, worms, fleas and urine while one dog, Edwina, had suffered a ruptured eye ulcer which sadly resulted in the eye being removed.
Many of the dogs also had respiratory issues.

Lucy Hooper, the rescue team's fundraising manager told the Echo: “The RSPCA asked for our assistance and wee managed to help get the 96 out. The condition was the worst we have ever seen in decades.

"We didn’t have much space for any dogs at the time but we would never leave dogs in those conditions.

"They are very traumatised, when I visited them I just saw three sets of eyes peering over a dog bed, trembling. But physically they are doing better than I expected."

The team at Margaret Green Animal Rescue managed to take 25 of the dogs while the rest were saved and rehomed to other rescue centres in the south west.

The group of 25 were then split in two with some of the dogs being rehomed at their rescue centre near Blandford while the rest went to another home in Devon.

Despite their horrendous beginning to life, following some close care and much-needed attention it would appear that the dogs are on the road to recovery.

What has been really nice and rewarding for the staff is that the dogs who were terrified are now choosing to come and sit on our knees. It is just lovely to see," Lucy said.

Thanks to the dedication and kindness of a number of animal rescue centres, the dogs are now receiving care and attention from dedicated staff and volunteers, and once they are ready they will be rehomed.

The animal welfare charity has seen an increase in rescued animals coming into care, with many of our centres already full and others close to capacity.

At the same time, rehoming is slowing down and there are signs that more people are looking to give up their pets.

Dorset dog attack on six sheep settled out of court.
Farmer and a dog owner have reached an agreement out of court after six sheep were injured by a canine.

Police reported that a dog was seen walking away from a field of livestock in the east Dorset area between 6.30am and 7am on August 3.

Six sheep were injured and required medical attention. The dog was identified and the matter handled by Dorset Police.

An attack of this type is an offence under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953.

Following investigation and discussions with the victim, the matter was resolved by an out of court disposal between the victim and the owner of the dog. The victim was fully supportive of this outcome, Dorset Police's rural crime team said.
PC Sebastian Haggett said: "We take offences such as this extremely seriously and officers from the Rural Crime Team carried out a proportionate investigation.

"We would like to take this opportunity to remind dog owners to be responsible when walking your dog in the countryside. Keep dogs under control at all times and do not allow them to enter a field alone.

"Make sure your dog is on a lead when crossing through fields containing livestock and if you find yourself threatened by cattle, do not hold on to your dog’s lead, instead let go of the lead as the cattle will chase the dog.

"Keep to rights of way and, if your dog has previously chased or attacked livestock, take responsible measures to prevent it happening again.”

To report an incident of livestock worrying, use the Dorset Police website dorset.police.uk/do-it-online email us at [email protected] or to report a crime in progress or risk to life, call 999.

Tip for Today ….

I Ticks are most active in the UK between March and June, and again from August to November, but there is still a risk of picking them up all year round. Here are some of our top tips for minimizing the risk of picking up ticks;

🍂 Location, location, location. Ticks are prone to desiccation, and so if it's dry, they hunker down below the leaf litter, where it's more moist, and re-hydrate and conserve energy. Walking your dog in areas with heavy leaf litter increases the risk of picking up ticks.

🌅 Timing could be crucial. Research from the 80s suggests that adult and nymphal ticks were the most active during their study, which was from 6 a.m. – 9 p.m., but most active from 6 a.m. - noon, so maybe opting for an afternoon or evening stroll.

👀 Examine you dog thoroughly every day and remove ticks as soon as you find them - they are more likely to pass on disease the longer they are left on.

🩺 Always remove ticks using a tick remover - we find the simple hook style the best. This way you remove all parts of the tick. Wear gloves and NEVER burn, suffocate or squash the tick to remove it from your dog - these methods can cause infection, regurgitation of the tick's stomach contents into your dog, risking disease.

🫙 Keep the tick in a sealed jar or in sellotape. That way, if your dog shows signs of disease later, your vet may be able to send the tick off for testing to aid diagnosis.
