121 with Mabel, the very sweet dachshund. We worked on her engagement and obedience around another dog. Phoenix was happy to help and enjoyed a quick hello sniff after work was done ✔️
Mabel's guardians have put so much brilliant work into her training from day 1, and it really shows! 👏

A very successful lead walking session with bouncy Chutney (love the name!) the young cavapoochon. We first practised in the park, and then took the new skills into the busy city centre 💯

This is certainly not an exciting or flashy clip, but one I think is important.
To have engagement with your dog means a dog is interested in what you're doing and where you are, even when you're NOT trying to get their attention.
In this clip, I am testing how my Bootcamp student Beau feels about checking in with me if I suddenly stop moving, without any notice. The reason I believe this is important to test AND reward is because you never know when this will come in handy! I might have suddenly fallen, unexpectedly gotten distracted, or some other reason that meant I am not able to call immediately or check in with my dog 100% of the time. If my dog understands that not moving with him is a sign to come back and check in, my dog's off lead reliability becomes far more solid!

Bootcamp student Beau learning to walk calmly and attentively with another dog. My dogs Phoenix and Khaya playing the helper dog. It is an important skill for a dog to learn to be calm and attentive to the human at close proximity to another dog, and not viewing every dog as an energised encounter. For Beau, this has been a very challenging lesson! He is coming along really well with this now.
