Horses can become bored when stabled, and as we might be starting to bring our horse's in to get away from the heat and sunshine, here are some ways to get horses to use their minds and senses to help enrich their environment๐ด๐ง

Pro Tips for a Well-Managed Pasture! ๐ฑ๐ด
โขRemove droppings regularly (preferably daily) and avoid using horse manure as fertilizer.
โขAvoid overstocking (recommended: 2 horses per hectare or 1-1.5 acres per horse).
โขGraze horses of similar age together.
โขRotate grazing by subdividing paddocks.
โขInclude other livestock in the grazing area to dilute the horse worm burden.

Responsible Horse Worm Control Tips ๐ด๐ช
โขUse faecal worm egg counts (FWEC) during the grazing season to determine which horses need worming. Generally, treat horses with a worm egg count of over 200 eggs/g (consult your vet for personalised advice).
โขTo help target specific worms at appropriate times of year, other tests can guide which horses need deworming and when.
โขAfter identifying those who need treating, treat all horses and ponies simultaneously with appropriate products.
โขAdminister the correct dose based on the horse's weight.
โขAvoid blanket use of worming treatments to prevent the development of drug resistance.
It is also important to maintain a well-managed pasture, keep an eye out for more tips on this ๐ฑ

When World Horse Welfare Field Officer Seema Ritson first found Seamus, she was shocked to see a "giant skeleton" slowly dying of starvation. Clydesdales are considered a vulnerable species by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and are generally very well cared for, but Seamus was found without a blade of grass to eat.
Once he arrived safely at World Horse Welfareโs Lancashire Rescue and Rehoming Centre, the experienced and dedicated team rallied to Seamus's aid and he received the emergency treatment he desperately needed. He has since been rehomed, and just look at him now!

Laminitis is a distressing condition that affects the hooves of horses. It involves the inflammation and damage of sensitive tissues within the hoof, leading to stretching, weakening, and potential displacement of the pedal bone.
