Still stuck in a boot 3 months on...
Sadly, my health isn't showing signs of improving. Sorry I've been so quiet these last few months. I've just been too exhausted to deal with anything else than the basics of living.

Please keep following and supporting my business! I won't give up!

I know I've been very quiet lately and haven't been putting enough effort into the business or my work for months now.

Since January I've been battling with my health. One aspect was the sudden onset of not being able to walk on my right foot. Just as I was finally getting better and capable of walking on my own, without aids) I fell when walking and broke my foot 🦴🏥🤕

I will be focusing on my health for the time being

Day 22: Decision

Ok, so only 22 days behind...
I'll catch up somehow.

Training in conservation means that creating as little waste as I can is important to me. I want to conserve and protect as many natural history specimens as I can. I support many charities for my use of insect specimens. Not everything I receive is perfect, but my money supports these small ethical charities instead of funding people who breed to kill specimens.

My biggest decision? Deciding how and what I can do to somehow save every single thing I can without having too much waste. Even if that means trawling through butterfly wings for hours and deciding if they can be used, rather than throw them away.

I know, I know. I'm late to the party AGAIN with the whole March Meet the Maker, but I am still going to participate, albeit 17 days late...

It might not be in order and probably spill into April, but I will be catching up with all the missed prompts and posts.

Lifes has been a bit hectic, and I know I've been neglecting not only my social media accounts but also my business too. So this seems a good idea to get things rolling again!

A few months ago I submitted a piece of artwork to the Usher Gallery. It was supposed to be art coming out of lockdown or something, anyway my piece was not chosen. No surprise there, it is Lincoln and maybe they can't handle the controversy of taxidermy.

Anyway a few weeks ago I get an email that seemed to be from the Usher, their name was in the email address so felt legit. Asking to submit 150-300 words on what my piece meant and if it was chosen it would go in a book. To my surprise it was chosen despite being quite a dark piece. Now here's where it all starts to get fishy...

My picture was not of high enough resolution so I was asked if I could come in on the 5th at the Usher because a professional photographer was in that day.

🚩 red flag no.1 the guy said if I couldn't make that date I could come round to his house. (WTF if you work for the Usher and have a camera do it at work) I politely declined and said I could come in on the 5th

🚩 He told me to come in at 11am and I could wait around til they were free. I asked if we could be done by 11:30am as I was the only person waiting and the other inanimate objects weren't going anywhere.

🚩 He then accused me of having better things to do and that he didn't like my attitude. I told him yes I did have better things to do as I work in the NHS and there's all these covid booster vaccines that need to be given to prevent, what made the idea for his book, from happening again.

🚩 He then said I better me more amicable working with him when it came to revisions over my writing. Now by this point I wanted to tell him where he could put that book of his. I told him that if he thought I would allow a man to make any changes about a woman's experience of domestic abuse by a man, he was sorely mistaken and that I no longer wanted to be a part of this.

🚩 He had to get the last word in telling me I was no longer going to be featured in the book...like yeah, didn't you just read my email?

🚩 And the final red flag, the cherry on the top. This man doesn't even work for the Usher like he claims!!! The people working there had no idea who he was and didn't have any photo shoot in their diary. So who is this man?!

Getting ready for this Sunday at the Cat Asylum Brewing Co.

There's an art to insect pinning depending on how you want to display them. For example if its to be displayed in a frame then a classic museum set is best for its simplicity. However, if I'm using them to recreate scenes from nature the wings need to be set in a natural position. These positionings normally don't look right in a frame. Just like a museum set would look too rigid

Death can be so beautiful despite tragedy 🖤🖤

A young woman from Vedbaek, Denmark, buried with her newborn child who had been placed on the wing of a swan, 4000 BC.

Vedbaek 'The swan's wing burial' Tomb 8 is the most famous of the burials, containing a young woman, who may have died in childbirth, and a premature baby.

The symbolism of the baby on the swan wing has been much debated with suggestions including purity and a waterfowl's ability to transcend water, land, and air.

Indeed, both bodies were cared for in death (the disordered state of the mother's ribs suggests that she may have been resting on an organic "pillow"), suggesting the belief that the spirit remained with the body.
