Volume up ⬆️ for the soothing sounds of Merlin sloppy chops eating his TopSpec Fibre plus cubes, which he has been having as a hay replacer since his teeth extractions, I still offer him some soft home grown meadow hay loose over night to pick at, as he’s not quidding his hay so much anymore, but I give him a portion of hay replacer on night checks just as a bit extra. The cubes are super cost effective, as 1 Stubbs scoop is the equivalent of 2kg of hay when soaked, so I actually need to feed far less that you’d imagine. I’ve used this product with huge success in the past with horses struggling with dental issues or lack of teeth, it’s a wonderful product.
Merlin is obviously feeling very well at the moment, on Monday he took a snooze and woke up bald with a couple of teeth missing 🥴
He wasn’t particularly impressed in the moment, but the teeth were causing him quite a bit of discomfort, and made chewing difficult so we made the decision to have them removed - and I took advantage and gave him a little Irish clip to give his skin a bit of a reset. He has pretty severe sweetitch so by clipping his neck and head I’m able to allow his skin to breathe and treat any dry areas he may have developed over the summer.
He’s currently having Bute following his tooth extractions, and at 25 he suffers with osteoarthritis, so I am considering keeping him on one Bute a day if this is how he feels on it! Not an easy choice, but we have to be realistic about things, and at 25 and retired, I just want him to have a good quality of life and enjoy himself comfortably.
