📢 warm weather announcement 📢

It's that time of year where the weather can become dangerous to our dogs. I want assure everyone that I will take every reasonable precaution to keep your dogs safe during periods of hot weather.

📌 I will start pick ups earlier on hot days so I can try and get all dogs walked before the hottest part of the day kicks in.

📌 I will try and keep driving and van time to a minimum so walks will be kept local. I will try and choose shaded areas and places with water to cool down in.

📌 I may shorten walks to suit the dogs and keep them safe from the heat.

📌 I will carry water on walks

On days when I deem it too hot to walk the dogs I may offer home visits instead. I can't stress how dangerous and easy it is for dogs to get heat stroke and it happens quickly. Especially when they're travelling in a car/van

On days that are forecast to be very hot, If dog owners feel they'd rather their dog wasnt walked then feel free to request a home visit instead and I'll try and accommodate that if I can. Alternatively you have the right to cancel your walk without charge.

I am officially a member of Fife Councils Dog Watch. Which means myself and my vehicle have been inspected and approved by the council and I have to adhere to certain standards. Did you know that every local Authority has a number of dogs they deem safe and appropriate to have per walk and Fife Councils is 6. Which means I will never have more than 6 dogs in a group at a time. I choose to only walk in groups of 4. If you'd like to know more then visit the link below.

The joys of perimenopausal brain fog!

Today this crazy dog lady has:

1. Made coffee without actually boiling the kettle.

2. Let myself into Marleys house to collect him for a walk. I don't walk Marley on a Monday!!! If it wasn't for his owner being home I would have been none the wiser and away with him 🤦‍♀️ (mortified)

3: spent ages towel cleaning the lunchtime groups paws before getting back in the van then remembering I have a new shower in the back to do that for me.

4: Nearly put the dogs in someone else's van (I did actually open the doors of someone else's van last week)

5: spent time looking for my van keys in my pocket to lock the doors when I've actually left them in the ignition.

6: I have called the dogs every name that comes to mind but rarely their actual name. Thank goodness they recall to the whistle.

AND ITS ONLY MONDAY! (Gie me strength) 😂

Having owned Boxers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers all my days I've always been on a quest for the most indestructible dog toys. I have wasted a lot of money on cheap toys along the way to learn if you buy cheap you buy twice. Dog toys are something you need to invest in to get your moneys worth. I thought I'd share the best toys/bones that I have learned of over the years. Bear in mind no dog toy is indestructible but some last longer than others. You can also find a lot of these products at your local independent pet shop, Sand & Paws so remember to keep it local when you can.

1: The Boomer ball (other brands available) it is a hard plastic ball that the dogs can't pick up with their mouths. This is for the keen footballers like my Sulley.

2: The Grubber Ball, also available in a rugby ball shape and in different sizes. Good for catch or tug. (these are very heavy so make sure you get the small one for smaller breeds)

3: The classic Kong. Still a staple for keeping dogs occupied and the brain working when stuffed with treats. Great for crate training and when leaving dogs home alone.

4: Ayeson Tugs I only discovered these last year but they are a game changer for dogs that like to suck/swallow the fibres on traditional Tugs which is obviously dangerous. These Tugs are fun, safer and they last for ages!

5: Goughnuts, a chew toy with a lifetime guarantee. If the dog manages to chew down to the core they will replace the chew free of charge. However not all dogs seem to like them.

6: Chuckit balls, I've honestly never met a dog that's managed to destroy a chuckit ball. Dogs seem to love them! They also have a hole in them to prevent choking if accidentally swallowed making them safer than a tennis ball.

7: Yakkers bones, great for puppies and chewers. Made with himalyan yaks milk and the fun part is there's no waste. When the bone gets too small you can put it in the microwave and it blows up like a big poppadom and they can eat the rest.

8: Coffee/Olive wood bones. Although I would never advocate dogs eating sticks these bones are safe for them and help with their urge to chew, keeping the furniture safe. They also last a good while (hoover may be required with this one)

9: Scooby Doo Ball. This is the budget B&M ball at only £3. Available in 2 sizes and actually last ages. I have bought the same balls online and they don't seem to last the same time even though they look the same.

10: Nylabone: A classic chew bone available in different shapes and sizes. Make sure you buy the right size and chew strength for your dog.

11: Tug e nuff. These are a firm favourite with dog trainers for engaging your dog, teaching recall or rewarding dogs for positive behaviour. Also great for praising dogs with play that aren't food motivated.

Holiday Dates for you diary 2024

Also I will be taking all Scottish public holidays going forward. The next being Easter weekend.

I will update holidays for autumn/winter later in the year.
