Our practice is taking part in the Antibiotic Amnesty this
November.

What to do if you have leftover or unused antibiotics:
o Return them to your vet practice for safe disposal
o Inappropriate disposal of unused antibiotics could contribute to antimicrobial resistance and pollute the environment through waterways, affecting our wildlife.
o Don’t ever give your pet, or any pet for which they haven’t been prescribed, left over or out of date antibiotics.

Using antibiotics when not needed could risk side effects, delay an accurate diagnosis for your pet, mean that your pet’s condition may not be treatable, and contributes to antimicrobial resistance.

🪿🦤🐔The rules apply to poultry and other captive birds including pets and aviary birds.
You do not need to register indoor birds such as budgies, parrots, cockatiels and finches if they are fully housed in a dwelling (your home or another indoor structure) and with no access to the open air 🦤🪿🐔

Our Chesterfield clinic will be closed on Thursday 14th November, from 3.00pm, and branch sites (Barlborough and Mansfield) from 2.30pm.
This is for essential staff training.

The 11th November is a day dedicated to honouring military personnel who lost their lives in service to their country.
The date commemorates the armistice signed at the end of World War I on November 11, 1918.

Wearing a poppy is a show of support for the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans and their families.
It represents all those who lost their lives on active service, from the beginning of the First World War right up to present day.

Today is Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day.

Lymphoma is a common cancer seen in pet dogs. It is more common in middle aged dogs, typically 6-9 years old, and can affect any breed of dog but is seen more commonly in boxers, bull mastiffs, basset hounds, St Bernards, Scottish terriers, Airedale terriers and bulldogs.

Wednesday 6th November marks National Stress Awareness Day, which seeks to raise awareness of the negative effects that stress can have on our health.
While stress can sometimes serve as a helpful motivator, too much of it can negatively impact our mood, body, and mind.

🐾This is where our pets play an important role: they can greatly help reduce stress and boost mental well-being. Interacting with pets has a soothing effect on the body, helping to lower blood pressure, ease anxiety, and increase feelings of social support.

🐾Petting or cuddling animals can release oxytocin, a hormone that promotes relaxation and bonding, while also lowering cortisol levels, which are linked to stress.

😍 Meet Snoopy 😍
Handsome poodle Snoopy came to us for his puppy health check (yep, he's still a puppy and at 16 weeks old he still has plenty of growing to do!)
Snoopy loved his visit with vet Megan, and decided to join the Healthy Pet Club to keep up to date with his preventative healthcare needs.

We think he's a super happy superstar pup and we can't wait to see him for his weight checks in the future 🌟

Congratulations Oakley! Oakley graduated from his Happy Visits this week after coming to see our nurse Deborah for some sessions to help him feel more relaxed and confident in the practice. We are so pleased for him... and he looks rather pleased with himself too!

As it is rabbit awareness week, we would like to introduce this little gem to you. This young man is Eli 🤍 Eli is a Netherland Dwarf, weighing in under 1kg! He's such a sweet boy. This is Joseph in his little piggy jumper, recovering from has general anaesthetic and castration procedure. Student Veterinary Nurse Zeph definitely made Joseph feel at home with lots of cuddles and toys! Despite having a castration - I think Joseph loved every minute with us 😻

Everyone this is little Mo... He absolutely loved spending last Friday with us while having a bile acid stimulation test. At one point he nearly took flight with excitement thanks to his big floppy tabs 🐘🥰
