Believe it or not, the horse was standing square in both these photos! What differences can you spot before and after treatment?

Before:
✨️ Hinging to the right through the lumbar sacral junction
✨️Dropping left hip and shoulder
✨️Abdomen shifted to right
✨️Bringing head and neck to the right to counter balance

After:
✨️ Pelvis straight
✨️Hips and shoulders aligned
✨️ Even weight bearing through the body
✨️ A straight line can be drawn from the poll to the croup with even body parts on either side!

Admin support

Over the next couple of months, I'm going to be trialling some admin support to allow me to spend more time with you lovely clients and less time looking at a screen….

Introducing Helena!!

Helena lives in Yorkshire - she's recently been getting back into horse riding and enjoys hacks over the Yorkshire countryside! She also owns a very exuberant Vizsla who keeps her on her toes the rest of the time. Oh, and she's also my brilliant mum! 🤣🧡

Helena will be helping me out behind the scenes sending invoices, notes and handling vet referrals.

Lastly, I wanted to say huge thank you to everyone for their ongoing support - I'm SO grateful to have you all as clients and cheerleaders for my business 🙏✨️ Many more exciting things to come!

I've had the pleasure of treating the lovely Frank recently!

Frank's owner contacted me with the view to improving the lordosis (exaggerated curve) of his back. He had been showing signs of dipping away from the saddle when being mounted, and had been stopping while jumping. On assessment, Frank found it challenging to hold stretches, and showed a limited lateral flexibility in his neck and back. He had extremely tight muscles along the right side of the back causing a lateral curvature of late thoracic and lumbar spine, pelvic asymmetry and his rib cage became fixed.

These pictures were take two weeks apart, after two treatments. His pelvic asymmetry and lateral spinal curvature have been resolved, his neck flexibility has drastically improved, he's started using his quadriceps, and the sway of his spine has come up significantly through muscle strengthening and activation.

We've still got a bit of work to do with Frank but I thought it was important to show how a committed owner who follows a treatment plan and exercise regime can significantly help the corrective process. His owners have been fantastic in making sure exercises are done as planned and completed correctly!

How aware are you of your horses stance?

The average horse spends 22 hours standing, so their stance can have a significant influence on their soundness (Gellman, 2015).

Abnormal posture can present itself in several ways, including:
• legs are not perpendicular to the ground, either camped under and stretched out behind
• unwillingness to bear weight on all four limbs together
• unwillingness to stand square
• uneven weight bearing
• a twist in the spine when standing or walking
• performance problems or chronic/recurrent lameness with no known structural damage

The posture of a horse can change over time to compensate for injury, fatigue, and tightness in muscles. Cow hocked horses, as pictured above, tend to present with tight hamstrings and adductor muscles, which causes the hind limbs to externally rotate and hocks to come together. This is not a 'normal' position for your horses legs and puts strain on joints.

Physiotherapy can help to alleviate these symptoms and reestablish correct posture and movement.

Look at your horses natural standing position. What can you identify about their posture?
