New dog friendly days out! I can’t wait to visit 😍
Good evening everyone we have some extremely EXCITING and slightly daunting news 😅
WE ARE RE OPENING FORT PAULL 🏰😎
Gulp!
Date tbc (There’s a lot of work to do) - We will be re opening this wonderful site again for the public to enjoy! ❤️
We will be starting from scratch and hoping to save the fort and re build the museum for generations to come.
To do this we will be opening the Fort one day a week (this will hopefully change when busier) for a small fee so that the public can have a wander around the Fort, bring a picnic and see our starting point on this journey (dogs allowed 🐶)
To also help us on this journey we will be looking to run numerous events throughout the year 😎
We have already lined up the ghost tours to re start, classic American car shows, some fitness based events 💪 and hopefully a fright night event for Halloween 👻 If possible a Christmas market 🎄🎅
What we would really love to host this year is the first of hopefully very many ‘Fort Fest’s” 🤘what an incredible venue for a music festival 😎
We would really love to know what sort of events the public would like to see at the fort?
Would anyone like to run their own event here?
We are also looking for the following vendors, if you would like to be involved in our events please get in touch 🍔🍻
Food
Drink
Crafts
Xmas Stall Holders
If anyone fancies lending a hand, there’s plenty to get stuck into 😅
Please bear in mind that we are starting from scratch and this is a huge undertaking! There will be teething problems but.. we will be trying our best to make this a wonderful museum to visit, a cracking events venue and the best of all, the longevity of this incredible Fortification ✌️
Thanks for reading
The Two Nicks 😎
(GONE but the odd 30 mins left later on)). Last minute gap in Ings at 11 today if anybody wants a visit? And it’s dried up! Hurrah!!
In other news we are about to pt another field into planning in a drier area to help spread the load if we get another winter like the last one. More news soon hopefully.
Rubbish photo of non existent northern lights, even though we were staying in a remote cabin in Cheshire. Did anyone actually see them??
Gone! Last minute resceduling at 4pm today in the Carr field if anybody fancies a quick walk in the sun ☀️ First come first served - I will edit this post once it’s booked.
There are still some muddy patches but the majority of the field is fine. Wellies still recommended though!
A week on Saturday!
https://mailchi.mp/0569fb0bd7aa/new-dangerous-dogs-booking-rules
We are glad to still be able to let our fields to dogs which are listed under the dangerous dogs rules (XL Bullies etc), however there are some things which our insurers have asked for.
Beautiful couple of hours today planting some trees in the Manor field. Hoping area will be a sanctuary on the top of the hill during hot summer days ☀️
You’ll also see some on other fields. Hoping for a kind spring so they have chance to grow quickly.
There has also been a Western Red Cedar hedge planted alongside the road to give privacy & shelter from the road.
Dog show & agility!
Please share, thank you xx
XL Bullies
Our insurers do not have any specific rules for the fields use by XL Bullies so we are pleased to say that our fields can still be used by XL Bullies, as long as the government rules are stuck to (link at the bottom).
The fields are private land and the use of the fields are for the users exclusive use, however the car park is a public area so muzzles and leads need using in the car park. We would advise using the infield parking - the parking inside the locked area.
The field rules are there to keep everybody safe and as usual need adhering to. As previously, remember to report anybody not sticking to the rules please - from not having dogs on the lead in the car park to overstaying, as this means we can ensure rules are kept to.
We opened these fields in the first place (I think we were the first in East Yorkshire?) to give dogs a chance to run free who wouldn’t otherwise get a chance to, and we don’t want to exclude XL Bully dogs when it could be the only freedom they get outside their homes.
I will be adding a point to the FAQ's section in the New Year with XL Bully guidance. If anybody has any questions please ask me - Tamara on [email protected]
Happy New Year

Despite our best efforts the neverending rain has finally beaten us & the mud has won😖 From now until it dries up we are going to limit Carr field bookings to 2 hours per day. We may also have to limit the other fields if it doesn’t dry up soon.
I have added a note to the top of all confirmation emails that if you would like to cancel your booking please forward the confirmation on to us at [email protected] - please bear with us but we will process the refunds.
Resceduling will be hard due to such limited availability so again please email for a refund in this case.
Everything crossed for an early spring! And we have pencilled in adding a hardcore track around the field in time for next winter 💪
Photo to show the first part - wellies essential and it is still wet in the main field.
First newsletter from the dog fields! - https://mailchi.mp/c6389f8b4f10/7b1rb97hv9
I’ve never got round to posting this - it was found by a metal detector on the farm just before covid. It is a wax seal from 12-1300 & belonged to a woman called Amarillo, wife of Stephen of Molescroft. The last pic shows a clay impression of the seal. I love the fact it was found on the farm, it says Molescroft and it belonged to a woman.
Cottingham metal detectors come every year and raise money for charity in exchange for detecting.

Good morning from Ings!
Our new Ings field opens tomorrow! Video below to show a little of the field.
Field shelter and sand pit to follow once the autumn crops have been sown.
We think it looks great, not least that it is the first field we have done using arable land rather than very old grassland, so is flat and hence suitable for high speed zooms! We hope you enjoy it! ☺️🐶
Wanting some feedback please! I have had a pretty bad week of people thinking there is a double booking but it being one person's error - from turning up at 7pm having booked a 7am slot, to rescheduling their slot and then turning up at the original booking, or going to the wrong field. I have also had a fair few people recently who thought they had booked but their payment hasn't been authorised by their bank and they haven't received a confirmation email. The system does not allow double bookings and I know this but I always panic when people are on the phone!
Does anybody have any suggestions of how to improve this as I have been trying to have some time off with my little boy, and it is really hard when I need to be near my laptop constantly to find out what people have done - I can tell from my phone who is meant to be in the field but people don't generally believe me when I say it isn't their booking, they want to know why and don't seem to believe it until I have found the answer. I appreciate this is human nature, so it is not a criticism, but I would really like to reduce this happening.
I can't leave the phone calls because they are urgent and only one of the two people involved's error. And unlike most enquiries, they are very urgent.
1. Change the reminder text to 2 hours before and only include the gate code on this text & email. Hoping this would make people more likely to watch for this reminder, and two hours would give time to check if they have a booking.
2. As above but also change the gate code weekly to help people to check they have got their reminder.
3. Try to find a system which has a separate code for each booking. Worried this could be fallible as the internet can go down and people might well turn up without their bluetooth code.
4. Add a tick box to the booking page saying not to turn up to the field unless you have a reminder text/email 2 hours before.
5. When I can't answer calls send an auto-text with a link to the FAQ's on the website and to say if you think you have a double booking that it isn't possible and to check your two-hour reminders to find who's slot it is.
6. Employ somebody to man the phone 7am-9pm (although somebody did call at 6.50am on Monday), and increase the prices to pay for this 😕
Any suggestions very welcome :) Thank you. Tamara
The new Ings field is open to book from the 18th September! Photos of the field to follow once the car park fencing is done but we’ve been changing the roadside signs this week. We’ve simplified the Molescroft field names to Manor, Carr & Ings, which needed changing on the signs. Photos to show the old & new signs.
If anybody can spot any reference to Molescroft Carr or Molescroft Manor on the website I will give you a free booking! Spent all morning changing it but I’m sure I’ll have missed something!
The new field is on Ings Lane, opposite the council run car park before the Carr field. It’s a flat field & was growing crops until recently so we hope the grass will hold up.
With the extra capacity it will hopefully mean we can close fields if they get too wet & the grass gets damaged.
Worried about not being able to catch your dog? We do get the occasional dog who won't be caught. A long line can really help - I saw this post on the Battersea website and thought it might be useful. I liked the suggestion to not have a loop at the end as I was worried they might get caught on something.
https://www.battersea.org.uk/pet-advice/dog-advice/how-use-long-line-lead
A long-line is a long rope with a clip at the end that you can attach to your dog’s harness like you would a normal lead.
All of our fields are equipped with their own handy dog wash- the perfect solution for muddy pups! Don’t forget your towel!
More news! We have finally worked out a way to upgrade your existing booking from 1-3 to 4-8 dogs!
You can either click the link at the bottom of the confirmation email, as shown below, or follow the link in the booking FAQs section. I hope this works but please let us know if you have any issues with it 🤞

Dog toys/balls
We have been told that occasionally broken dog toys/balls have been left in the field. This can be a problem for dogs with guarding issues, or eating broken balls (!) so please put any broken or unwanted toys in the bins provided, even small pieces.
Pippa or Jon check the fields most days but they cannot check every meter so if you see any it would be really helpful if you could bin these too. Thank you.

A glorious, frosty morning at Carr
After a hectic couple of days James has finished the car park re-surfacing just before it got dark! Looking forward to seeing how much better it looks ☺️ Thanks James!
We have another dog field in planning! Unfortunately the last one we submitted was not allowed due to perceived highways access issues, 😔 but this one looks to be okay so far....please keep everything crossed! It is Ings Lane, on the way to the Carr field, opposite the public car park.

We have been asked to share a survey about dogs being walked off their leads as part of a Masters Degree - info below & the link to fill in the survey is at the bottom. Please share as I’m sure Facebook will do its best to limit who sees this!
“Should dogs be allowed off-lead in public areas?
The survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
I'm Meg and I'm currently studying my Masters degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare at Bishop Burton University. I'm conducting this study to find out dog owners perceptions on off-lead dogs, dog welfare and behaviour, and how owners are affected. My study was influenced by my own dog's reactivity towards other dogs and her nervousness towards people.
This questionnaire will be used as a part of a course module, all answers will remain anonymous, and will not be exchanged with any third party. You have the right to exit the questionnaire at any given time and your answers will not be saved.
Some questions ask about 'hired dog fields' this includes a booked field or paddock with secure fencing that only allows your dog and any other chosen dogs to enter.
Please only complete this form if you are over 18 years of age and currently own or walk a dog. “

We are making a few changes to improve the field bookings so there are less errors and hopefully less emergency phone calls! If there has been anything which confused you when you started using the field, and you think could be changed, please let me know. As part of this we have increased the price for the 4-8 dog bookings to £9/14 since one regular issue is people booking the 4-8 dogs 30 mins when they mean to book 1-3 dogs 60 mins. Plus from our CCTV records 4-8 dogs do seem to be causing more unpicked poos, hence higher maintenance costs. This has meant the block bookings have had to change - please let me know if you find any issues with them and I will get it fixed as soon as I can. We have also updated the confirmation emails - again plese let me know if anything else is missing which you would like to see on these. Thanks. Tamara PS Video of Max trying out the sand pit
As we have got so busy we are now looking for a Dog Field Assistant to do approx 2 hours per day helping with the three dog fields. It will involve checking the field, including the play equipment and fence, poo picking where necessary and possibly in the future dealing with social media messages. We already have Jon who cuts the grass, empties the bins and also checks the field but he has other jobs to do on the farm. You would report any maintenance needed to Jon and/or Tamara. Ideal job for somebody to fit around school hours and/or for somebody with an existing dog walking business, although you would not be able to walk a dog/s in the field whilst you were working. 10-12 hours per week, possibly more if we get the fourth field done. Could you please email me if you are interested. Thanks. Tamara [email protected] Please share if you know anybody who might be interested. Just a nice video for a Friday with Max demonstrating how good his recall is if he can’t run after another dog!
Video of the new dog field, showing where to park & how to use the gates. A mag lock will be added once the power supply is connected. Opening very soon! Sorry about the Friday rush hour traffic noise but Max enjoying his first run in the field makes up for it 🥰
The new Molescroft Manor dog walking field has been having the car park surface put down this week. I will update as soon as I know it will be ready 🙂
I’m stuck at home COVID isolating but have been sent this video of the fencing going on well. We have machinery hired this Tuesday to level the drainage lines, and the car parking are being done next week too, so hopefully we’re getting close to opening. I will add it to the booking page once it’s available, I just daren’t do it yet. As we all know with COVID, delays are inevitable! Can’t wait to let everyone have a walk here, it’s a lovely old grass field, with the original ridge & furrow as it has never been cultivated in modern times. I’m sure the dogs will love it 🥰 (Thanks to Jonathon for sending the video to keep me sane 😂).
