POSTPONEMENT OF THE WTC 2025 OPEN SHOW

Regrettably, we have to advise you that the 2025 Welsh Terrier Club Open Show will NOT be held on Sunday 23rd March 2025.

It is anticipated that it will be held on the same day as the 2025 Championship Show on Sunday 28th September; and this will be confirmed at a later date.

A combination of unforeseeable circumstances within the committee, together with a very low entry from competitors has resulted in the committee having to make this very disappointing decision.

With regret

OPEN SHOW.

A gentle reminder that entries close this coming weekend and at the moment we only have 1 dog entered.

If we don’t get many more we may have to consider cancelling the show. So please get your entries in as soon as you can.

If you need a schedule then please do contact me at Julien Barney or alternatively contact Linda Cassidy.

We look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks time. A good pre practice for National Terrier and the added bonus you keep on top of the trimming.

Julien Barney
Hon. Secretary

NOTICE

Please note that we will be cancelling our AGM to be held in the same day as the open show. This is due to our treasurer recovering from recent back surgery.

The AGM will now be online at date yet to be confirmed.

Thank you for your patience.

Hello everyone

Sadly, we have to inform you that long time Club member Eric Catherall died on Sunday 2nd February 2025.

Eric, who was in his 80s when he died, started to breed Welsh Terriers in 1960 under the affix ‘Serenfach’ which over the years became one of the most respected names in the Welsh Terrier world.

The 1980s proved that Eric was at the top of his game - he was the top breeder in 1983 and 1984, and during that decade, bred six British champions, six American champions and numerous continental champions. He was also a top championship show judge from the late 80’s onwards; the ultimate accolade, he stated, was being the Welsh Terrier judge at Crufts in 1993.

Eric was a committee member for many years and, up to his death was a Patron of the Club. When he wasn’t called upon for official duties at our shows in recent years, we could always rely on Eric to be on hand to ‘meet and greet’ newcomers who might need any help.

Eric’s funeral will take place on Wednesday 19th February at 1.30PM at Cannock Chase Crematorium, Norton Rd, Heath Hayes, Cannock WS12 3HJ.

Crufts report 2024.

Welsh Terrier Crufts Best of breed + group 4
Judge: Mrs Z Thorn-Andrews
Veteran Dog (1)
1st Serbonche Breuddwyd Mam (Mr Humphries) Lovely head & clear sparkling eyes. Neat ears, Still has lovely tight feet. Good colour & pigment, but very out of coat on the day.
Lovely wagging tail too.
Post Graduate Dog (5)
1st Dr Fate Foxhouse (Mr Valli) Up to size, but a strong sound dog. Super presentation, Good legs & feet. Maybe a touch over angulated in rear, but he pulled himself together well finally. I liked him a lot, has good solid, square proportions
2nd Timmy Du Clos Du Semberg (Miss Meyer) Stands too wide in front, & moves too wide going away. Good for size and type to go over, Liked his flat skull, of correct width.
3rd Bolhaus Sedbergh Scholar (Mrs Plumbly)
Limit Dog (3)
1st Mad Max from Michel (Mrs Hyldahl) He is certainly a strong masculine boy! Yet still refined enough in head, has beautiful eyes.& they were not too large. Needs more slope of shoulder & a little forechest. Deep chest to the elbows. Excellent topline, well muscled front & rear, In super jacket.
2nd Extrem Od Guvernera (Mrs Leeb-Hackl) Very out in front on the move, & I thought him a touch feminine. Lovely compact outline, OK behind, well set on tail. Coat could be a bit longer on his back maybe. Went well in profile movement.
3rd Terrierix Winnie The Pooh (Mrs & Mr Nemesszeghy)
Open Dog (9)
1st Ch Perrisblu The Phantom (Ms Cole) CC BOB +group 4.. Not easy to separate these first two, & it took some serious thought. Overcoated on front legs which was giving him a knuckled over & too wide look, but he was adjusted later, so I felt more comfortable with him overall. His movement is true both ways, and correct stride in profile. Super head & ears, Excellent ribbing and sweep over topline to tail set bang on top. Powerful construction and movement in rear. Very full of himself. Did the breed proud in the hot group later.
2nd Ch Perrisblu The Equalizer (Mr Galea) R CC. Also very smart and sound moving all ways, one tooth out of line a touch. Nicely within the size limit I thought, So precise up & down, I just preferred the head of winner, but not much in it. & they are two very fine Welsh Terriers.. Sire of the BOB & R CC bitch I see!
3rd Nl Ch Knowlelion Real Deal (Messr Smeets & Hughes)
Veteran Bitch (4)
1st Legenda Od Guvernera (Mrs Lieblova) CC An outstanding “oldie” and not surprised to end up with her winning the CC. Immaculate coat & condition, A very slight weakness in middle of back, on examination, but she did not show it moving, She is a very lovely bitch in top order..Full of type & character too!
2nd Saredon Desert Bloom at Somerwel ShCM (Mr & Mrs Thomas) Loved her too, full of herself, & showing well. Very fit & well muscled. Handler could let her move out more freely, as she kept reining her in & making her short step.
3rd Int Ch X-Tra vom Zigeunerloch (Mrs Dreyssig)
Puppy Bitch (2)
1st Gaelic Rose (Mr Harrison) Tends to paddle badly in front as yet, & needs practice not to pull. I do hope she tightens up, as she is a very nice puppy, Correct width & length of skull, strong foreface, liked her eyes & expression. Neat ears, Excellent body and depth for age. Super behind, good coat coming.
2nd Cunnings Xeeyou at Renevis (Imp Ita) (Mrs Robertson) Neat and precise up & down, but short steps in profile going around. Head I thought too narrow for a Welsh, but she is attractive, holds a good outline, OK behind, keeping a steady topline.
Junior Bitch (1)
1st Tiltser Caffe Americano at Renevis (Mrs Robertson) Very true coming and going & covering the ground easily. Promising throughout, leg hair hard, but back coat soft on the day. Tail set well up. Perfect bend of stifles & neat low hocks. Very promising indeed.
Post Graduate Bitch (5)
1st Diamond Crown (Miss Davies) Two lovely bi***es. Winner lovely to go over. Hard and very fit. Excellent texture of coat, Liked her head shape, and her fairly small eyes are well set. Ears carried correctly, She has a touch of forechest too, which I admired. Hard backline, Perfect quarters, with a long stride in profile.
2nd London Baby from Michel at Chadbrook (Mr & Miss Mccluskey & Young) Solid & also moving well but carrying her head somewhat lower & fighting the lead a little. Not quite the front of winner, but equal in every other respect. Well handled & presented and certainly sound as they come.
3rd Bolhaus Royal Riot (Ms & Mr Bennett & Innes)
Limit Bitch (4)
1st Perrisblu The Dutches (Ms Cole) R CC Smart, loved her head, with the blackest of pigment, neat ears, Ok in front, good coat texture, with hard leg hair too. Short back, nicely compact body, correctly angulated, impressive rear. Tail well up & such a true mover. Still has some maturing to do when compared to the veteran bitch. Sired by the R CC I see.
2nd Terrierix Wanda Maximov (Mrs & Mr Nemesszeghy) Smart also, & strides out with aplomb in profile. Pigment not so good as it could be, & she is a trifle long in back. Very precise up & down, and covers plenty of ground in profile. Well handled.
3rd Honeybee vom Zigeunerloch D/kft/vdh Jch (Mrs Dreyssig)
Open Bitch (8
1st Kebulak Black Orchid (Mr Ferguson-Blakeley) Really good quality bitch, Tail comes over the back too far otherwise impressed all round. Nicely handled to get the best out of her, holds her backline well, excellent in front & going away on the move. In good jacket. Pleasing head & intelligent expression.
2nd Etna from Michel (Mr Csaba Denk) Not as good as winner in front, and lacks forechest. So shoulders set too far forward. Super body, firm topline, hard quarters with good length to second thighs. Well set on tail, Moved much too fast for the breed, which didn’t help her front.
3rd Monaline Unicum (Mr Annus)
Good Citizen Bitch
1st Saredon Desert Bloom at Somerwel ShCM (Mr & Mrs Thomas) Moving much better here. Well done.
