🎄🐾 Seasonal Dangers for Dogs: Keep Your Dog Safe This Festive Season! 🐾🎄

As we dive into the holiday season, it’s important to remember that some festive traditions can pose risks to our furry friends. Here are a few common seasonal dangers to be aware of:

1️⃣ Christmas Foods:
• Chocolate, mince pies, raisins, grapes, and onions are toxic to dogs.
• Fatty foods like roast trimmings can upset their stomach or cause more serious issues.
• Keep festive snacks and leftovers well out of reach!

2️⃣ Decorations:
• Tinsel, baubles, fairy lights, and gift wrap may look like toys to your dog, but they can cause choking or blockages if ingested.
• Be mindful of low-hanging decorations and exposed wires.

3️⃣ Plants:
• Poinsettias, mistletoe, holly, and Christmas trees can be harmful if chewed. Even pine needles can cause irritation!

4️⃣ Cold Weather:
• Icy ground and snow can hurt your dog’s paws. Rinse their feet after walks to avoid salt or grit causing irritation.
• Provide extra warmth for short-haired or senior dogs when it’s chilly.

5️⃣ Noise & Visitors:
• Fireworks, crackers, and holiday parties can be overwhelming. Create a quiet, safe space for your dog to relax.

Enjoy the season while keeping your four-legged family members safe and happy! Share this to help other dog lovers stay informed. 🐶❤️

A huge thank you to Marcus from Wild New Forest for an inspiring talk that took us out of the woods and to the coast, exploring the beauty and fragility of this incredible coastal ecosystem.

As David Attenborough said: “If children grow up not knowing about nature and appreciating it, they will not understand it, and if they don’t understand it, they won’t protect it, and if they don’t protect it, who will?”

This talk helped us connect with the coastal birds and their world—understanding them better means we’re inspired to protect them. Thank you, Marcus!

***Give Wintering Birds Space***

As winter settles in, so do thousands of birds like Brent Geese and waders along the Solent coast. These incredible birds travel thousands of miles to Keyhaven and other reserves, needing rest and food to survive the season.

NFDog has partnered with local nature groups to raise awareness of the importance of giving these birds the space they need—especially if you’re walking with your dog. Small actions can make a big difference!

Enjoy the coast responsibly!
