You may have noticed, when paying by card, we now have a charity option at Oxfordshire Beaumont. *Our charity of the year is HEARING DOGS FOR DEAF PEOPLE*.

A hearing dog can make a big difference in a deaf persons life. Being deaf can be very isolating and that's why we have teamed up with – Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Help a deaf person leave loneliness behind, by adding a donation via Pennies when you pay by card.
Just a small donation can help deaf people escape isolation and reconnect with life.
Thank you!

It’s National Book Lovers Day today! This day is dedicated to globally honouring and promoting the joy of reading! Here at Beaumont 🐾 we love animal character’s and animal themed books! One of our regular clients loves “Six Dinner Sid” and kindly brought a copy for our Kidlington branch. One of our colleagues loves Six Thirty from last year’s best seller “Lessons in Chemistry”.

Do you have any recommendations?

The weather is warm and summer is underway!
Whilst we enjoy the sun, it is important to remember the impact the heat and sun can have on our pets.
Fly strike can become a more common problem in rabbits and happens when flys lay eggs in a rabbit's fur. The larvae then hatch and will eat away at the rabbit. Check your rabbits every day, especially around the bum area and make sure they are clean. Dirty and wet fur from faeces or urine attracts flys and should be cleaned as soon as noticed.
If you think your rabbit has flystrike, this is an emergency and needs immediate treatment.
Products such as Rearguard can be dispensed by our practices to help prevent at risk rabbits, and our nurses can perform health checks as part of the Healthy Pet Club to prescribe this.

This week concludes Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month. We have shared with you an overview and behind the scenes of our nursing team and their roles and we hope you find their skills and knowledge as exciting as we do!
Did you know, the title of Registered Veterinary Nurse is not protected? This means that anyone can call themselves a veterinary nurse even if they don't have the qualifications. With the years of training and continued professional development that our nurses go through, and the regulation they receive by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, it is vital we recognise the important role they play in animal health care.
The veterinary industry will continue to campaign to Protect The Title so that only qualified and regulated individuals will be called a registered veterinary nurse.

With the new cat microchipping legislation in England coming in on 10 June 2024, if a have a new kitten, you may be wondering when you would need to get them microchipped by.
All cats need to microchipped by the time they are 20 weeks of age, this could be done during their neutering procedure so it can be placed easily and they do not feel it.
Give us a call to book your cat in for an appointment for microchipping and to find out more about microchipping your cat: vetcollection.co.uk/health/microchipping-cats

The 17th was World Hypertension Day
Hypertension or high blood pressure can cause a variety of issues in animals, including heart problems, kidney failure, and eye issues, and is more common in our senior pets. There are often no symptoms seen to indicate high blood pressure at the earlier stages.
Diagnosing hypertension early can help us to prevent these effects from building and causing issues.
We offer sessions with our nurses to screen your pet's blood pressure and help us get a head start on treatment plans, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are concerned about an ageing pet.

Earlier we asked you what you thought RVNs could do out of this list. Trick question! They can perform all of these tasks and more if they have specialist advanced certifications! They play a huge role in practices after their extensive training and we couldn't function without them. This is why the British Veterinary Nursing Association wants the title of the veterinary nurse to be protected. To find out more about this, visit their website: https://bvna.org.uk/blog/protect-the-title-what-does-it-mean-to-you-2/

Thank goodness it’s Friday!
How do you and your pets like to spend the weekend?
We’re partial to a mix of relaxing and exploring on ‘sniffaris’.
Did you know that even a 10 minute wander allowing your dog to sniff their own way can enhance their welfare by reducing their cortisol levels and their heart rates?

Today is National Receptionist’s Day
Our receptionists do more than just answer the phones and book appointments. They are the superheroes who keep our practices running smoothly, acting as the very important invisible connection, between our Clients, Vets and Nurses, and always with time for a cheeky pet cuddle too! Honestly, what would we do without them?
In recognition of this multifaceted role, our receptionists are newly titled as Client Care Assistants, and we hope you’ll join us in celebrating all that they do!

Buckley and his feline sister Beau came into our Kidlington branch to visit one of our student veterinary nurses recently. Doesn't Buckley look smart modelling one of our medical pet shirts? He got the all clear after his operation, and his sister Beau got a clean bill of health during her 6 month health check as part of the Healthy Pet Club scheme.
