When I was looking to train to be a dog trainer, I wanted to train with the best, to be the best I could, after a lot of research of different course providers looking at not only the content but also things such as their ethics, I was lucky enough to be selected to join the Karen Pryor Academy, something I am very proud of still. This lady did so much for modern animal training, and was one of the first people to use clickers (I suppose I also have her to thank for the business name :0). She died a couple of days ago and while she had a lovely long life it is still a loss to the ethical dog training world.

Some of you may have heard of her, most won't - she was around in the days before social media was a 'thing' - she is the author of one of the most important books for ethical trainers and it is a text on all good dog trainer bookshelfs - "Don't shoot the dog" - I am always happy to lend out my rather dog eared copy to anyone who would like to understand why we train using positive reinforcement 🧡 (and why it should be the ONLY way we train)..

If you have a google of her name you can see some of the amazing work she did in her life time and maybe find a few books to add to your bookshelf - she wrote a fair few :0)

What a lovely start to the New Year 🧡. Puppy classes are amongst my favourite things to do (which is maybe why I do so many 😂😂).

With the weather looking so horrible tomorrow Amos thought he’d share a ‘challenge’ to get those brains working - can you teach your dog to put both front paws on a small box ??

Hint - make it easy to start with - mark and reward for one foot on them as they get the hang of it maybe wait for the second paw (it can be on its own on both together to start with).

If 12 year old Amos can do it so can your lot 😊😊

* I realised I should have used a non slippy box but it was what I had to hand 🧡

The yellow sticker section at the supermarket can often be an Aladdin’s cave of treats for our dogs. I often buy up the reduced meat (for some bizarre reason there is often a lot of liver in there 😂), pop it in the freezer and you have a handy supply of cheap treats. It was a bumper haul today - chicken cocktail sausages and chicken !! (Don’t worry I didn’t take all of it 🧡).
