There’s not a lot of information in the article but the chews look like raw hide which I’m pretty sure anyone who has talked to me ever will know are not a good thing - I’ve found a link to ‘werewolf syndrome’ as well which I’ll pop in the comments.

Natural treats and chews are always much better option folks 🧡

The treats from China have been linked to ‘werewolf syndrome’ 🚨

This!!! This is why I do what I do 😊😊 - I love that people and their puppies enjoy the classes (especially when I’ve sent the homework 😂😂).

Puppy classes are one of my favourite things to do so I’m adding even more of them in an attempt to keep waiting times down 🧡.

If you are getting, or have recently got a puppy please get in touch and come along to the most fun classes (according to the puppies!) around.

I am so lucky that I have become friends with so many clients and they still send me updates years down the line. I first met this little dude over 4 years ago 😍 - he’s all grown up now and a bit of a super star who enjoys long walks and cosy nights in the pub or ‘in’ the sofa 🧡🧡

I had a couple of new classes start today and was chatting to a family at the end who asked if I recommended using a halti (a head harness that goes over the dogs nose) for a large teenage dog who liked to say Hello to everyone – I explained that it wasn’t something I would recommend due to the welfare implications for the dog (the area around the nose is very sensitive in dogs and anything which restricts head movement has the potential to cause damage to their necks and backs).

There are lots of ways we can help our dogs learn not to try and say Hello to everyone without causing discomfort, things such as space, check in’s, high value rewards, eye contact, being fun to be with :0)

I recommend using a well fitted Y shaped harness on our dogs (unless for medical reasons they can’t be worn), or if you prefer, (once your dog is trained to walk on a loose lead) a wide flat collar. Halti’s and head collars were designed as a short term measure for people teaching loose lead walking, they shouldn’t be used long term and if they are used in conjunction with training it should only be as a back up.

Something else you can do which often helps with loose lead walking is to use a longer lead, anything shorter than about 1.8m (with the ability to shorten when needed) is too short. If our dogs are on a short lead they are more likely to pull as they try to investigate things around them.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk 🤣

I think it’s safe to say young Stella used her brain quite a lot in today’s teenage tearaways 😂😂😂.

I think we all need to be a bit more Stella so I’m off for a nap 😂.

If you have a teenage tearaway (or any age) and would be interested in joining classes please get in touch, the next class with spaces isn’t until March but it will be here before we know it 🧡).

So far today I have had 4 enquiries about puppy classes so I thought I'd put together a little list of the frequently asked questions to save my typing fingers :0)

🐾 - When should I book my puppy in for classes ?

The sooner the better, puppy classes tend to book up really quickly, at the time of writing the next class with a space starts on Feb 26th (to put it in context I have 3 new classes starting before then which have all been full for around a month :0).

🐾 - What age can my puppy be ?

Puppies are welcome at class from when they have finished their vaccinations (around 12 weeks) upto 22 weeks at the start of the course (for smaller breeds we can even start them a little later).

🐾 - Why should I choose your classes Kate ?

Choosing the right class for your puppy is so important, those early lessons and interactions can shape your puppy for years to come. I am a qualified trainer and hold an Msc in behaviour, I have also done alot of puppy specific training (I have been called 'puppy google' in the past 🤣).

All the training is fun (as it should be) and positive reinforcement based (as all training should be :0), in other words we 'pay' your puppy for a job well done.

🐾 - What do we cover in class ?

Thats a long list so I'll pop a link to the website instead as it has all the information:

https://clickingwithcanines.co.uk/puppy-training-and-socialisation-classes/

🐾 - How much does it cost ?

The full 6 week course is £100. This includes 6 x 45 min classes plus lots of homework to keep you busy between classes :0)

🐾 - Can I come along to a class before I commit ?

Yes, this is something I recommend, choosing the right puppy class for your puppy is so important, you are very welcome to come along to class to watch before you decide.

🐾 - Do you offer 1-2-1 training as well ?

I do indeed, plus puppy packages for those who feel they need a little more support. 1-2-1's can be in person or over zoom and cost £60.

🐾 - How do I book ?

You can drop me a message and I'll send the link over, or you can pop onto the website and see what dates are available - https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule/445f5a50/?categories[]=Puppy%20classes

When it’s so cold outside sometimes skipping a walk is a great idea - but it does need replacing with something else fun and stimulating - for Mouse this has included:
🐽- Scent work in the snow searching for sausages.
💃- Dancing in the kitchen to daft tik tok tunes with her Mum .
🧸 - Choosing toys from the toy box
🦴- Having her breakfast out of puzzle toys.

Love this :0) (although I hope the people I work with like me almost as much as their dogs do lol).

The snow and ice may have meant I have had to rearrange lots this week but it has meant I could do lots of studying (and crochet 😂).

I keep threatening to retire next year but having ‘tried it’ this week I think I may stick around a bit longer, not only have I missed all the woofs but the list of studying (and new crochet stitches) I still want to do may take a few years yet 😂.

When I was looking to train to be a dog trainer, I wanted to train with the best, to be the best I could, after a lot of research of different course providers looking at not only the content but also things such as their ethics, I was lucky enough to be selected to join the Karen Pryor Academy, something I am very proud of still. This lady did so much for modern animal training, and was one of the first people to use clickers (I suppose I also have her to thank for the business name :0). She died a couple of days ago and while she had a lovely long life it is still a loss to the ethical dog training world.

Some of you may have heard of her, most won't - she was around in the days before social media was a 'thing' - she is the author of one of the most important books for ethical trainers and it is a text on all good dog trainer bookshelfs - "Don't shoot the dog" - I am always happy to lend out my rather dog eared copy to anyone who would like to understand why we train using positive reinforcement 🧡 (and why it should be the ONLY way we train)..

If you have a google of her name you can see some of the amazing work she did in her life time and maybe find a few books to add to your bookshelf - she wrote a fair few :0)
