Young Meri is still in puppy class but is absolutely nailing her mat work (I think it was the promise that she could go to the pub with Mum and Dad that did it 😂😂).

‘Leave it’ is a really useful thing to teach our dogs - it can literally be a life saver if they are tempted by something dangerous. Miss Mouse wanted to show off abit this afternoon (and I didn’t fancy getting soggy in the rain 😂😂).
When we start we make it really easy by placing the treat on the floor and covering it if our pups try to get to it, Mouse is at ‘expert’ level 🧡 so don’t worry if it takes a while to get here.

It may look like fight club but is actually the culmination of a slow introduction of these guys and it went brilliantly 🧡 - I suspect there will be lots of happy wrestling matches in the years to come 😊.
These guys have had a few weeks to get used to each other from the safety of a puppy play pen and baby gates - the little dude has learnt not to chase the cat (by being rewarded when the cat is around) and the cat has had the opportunity to investigate in his own time. We have also been working on the little dudes recall so we can call him away if he gets abit too excited.
They are both enjoying this interaction - the cat is using a soft mouth and his claws aren't out, they are in an open space so that the cat can leave if he wants to (which he does at the end), and we kept the play sessions short.
It's so important to introduce cats and dogs properly, a puppy who learns it is OK to chase a cat in the home will not realise it shouldn't do that to every cat they meet.
Cats should always be given places they can escape to (high up is better), their litter tray and food should be in a place they feel safe, and interactions should be closely monitored initially to ensure everyone is having fun.

I just replenished the kids fruit and veg selection 😂😂 - so important to get your five a day. Todays delivery consisted of broccoli, a pear, a blueberry and an orange 😂😂
My two love these - pet face latex toys (from Amazon of course), and they tend to last until I launch them into the back hedge never to be seen again - I’m expecting turnips and cauliflowers to start sprouting out of the hedge soon 😂

Emergency stops can be (and have been) a life saver and such an important skill to practice (although hopefully it is rarely needed).
