Not my usual Monday morning tea break this morning.

Although taking a chance and making changes scares the living day lights out of me, I know that life is for living while we can.

Just like so many busy people slowing down is a big challenge for me. So this morning I took time to sit in our donkeys' field and have my morning coffee.

Betty didn't care much for the smell of coffee at first. 🤣

Oh boy that was hard.

Canine Care 1993 - 2023

What an incredibly emotional day we had yesterday.

I can honestly say that when I started Canine Care away back in 1993 as a young 20 year old I never in my wildest dreams would have believed what it would turn out to be.

I know I have said it time and time again but I honestly do feel I have been truly blessed. I have never been surer of that than when I closed my doors last night, at the end of my last day of Canine Care. With tears streaming down my face I left with not one car packed full of gifts but two.

The exceptional kindness that has been showered upon not just me but all of my wee team over the last few weeks will stay with us forever.

We all have so many amazing memories and although our hearts are so heavy today we all also have exciting times ahead.

It's a new beginning for all of us and although today I feel like I've been hit by a bus, I know it's just a wave of emotion for the end of my wee business that has been my life for 30 years.

No matter how hard I try I just can't find the words to say just how much Canine Care meant to me. Throughout 30 years I got to meet so many wonderful people and got the honour of grooming thousands of beautiful dogs who have all taught me so much. With every ounce of my being I thank you all for being a special part of 3 decades of my life.

Although I don't remember the first dog I groomed at Canine Care I know for sure I'll never forget my last. What a privilege it was to end my 30 years at work by grooming wee Molly Kerrigan. My last dog to groom at Canine Care was the first dog who stole my heart in Serbia 8 years ago.

Molly is living proof that new chapters happen. Having left behind the harshness of shelter life in Serbia she now lives the dream in Omagh.

If I get half as lucky as Molly in my new chapter from here I'll be more than blessed.

Thank you all once again for everything throughout this past 30 years. It's not goodbye everyone, it's as my late Dad used to say "I'll see you around"

09/06/2023

Our last day at Canine Care and already I feel like an emotional mess. I've been so privileged to have done what I done for so long.

Today I'm going to really enjoy my last day working alongside my great wee team and spending it in the great company of another day of lovely dogs and devoted owners.

On top of a full day of appointments our Sadie has decided to roll in fox poo so she can get a final bath at Canine Care too.

Note to Sadie "All rolling is banned from today, career break starts tomorrow."

Sometimes we all just need a big hug. Thanks Willow. There will be more of those needed tomorrow.

One by one, or two by two, a piece of our hearts we gave to you ❤️

Since I announced 8 weeks ago that we are closing on Friday, we have been going through the long goodbye. Every day we have said goodbye to many friends and as our closure comes closer it doesn't get any easier.

It's been a real honour to work with so many beautiful dogs. Here are just a few that I have found pictures of. There are so, so many more who we love and adore every bit as much as these few.

Thank you everyone, from the very bottom of my heart, for letting me and my team groom your precious dogs for 3 decades.

I quite simply don't know how we're going to do without them.

As I continue to reflect back over the years, before we close on Friday, I realise that in all that time we have had a lot of birthdays in the salon. Some more than others I must admit but we'll not mention any names on that one.

As we all know where there's birthdays, there's cake and where there's cake, there's candles and where there's candles well that's a lot of blowing 🤣

Here's just a few birthdays that were caught on camera in the salon over some of our more recent years. Fun times 🎂🎉

03/06/2023

Maybe I could take this up if I get bored during my career break. Then again judging by the job I've made this morning on our old boy Sandy maybe not😆

It's now just one week today until we close.

Firstly, I apologise to those of you who have had to bear with us, at the times so far, when our emotions have totally gotten the better of us.

Secondly, I want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart for all the overwhelming love and kindness that is being showered upon us right now. It really is blowing us away and I know for sure, if I live to be 100 I'll never forget these last few weeks.

This week in particular has been a big week for us. Yesterday we saw our Amy work her last day as she is now just 4 weeks until her wee baby is due. She wouldn't let me take a picture before we saw her off at our door but she promises that she'll be happy to pose for the camera next Friday evening when she joins us again for our final closing of our doors. I think there will be a lot of hankies needed that evening.

So instead of sharing a picture of a very emotional Amy, I want to share with you all a few of my favourite photos of some of our special moments caught on camera over our most recent years.
Precious memories to say the least.❤️

It's beginning to look very real now.

It's Bank Holiday Monday and we're having a day off before we start our last two emotional weeks of Canine Care.

A day off or not it appears I've found myself a dog to wash. Dear only knows what he's been up to, to get himself in such a mess. There will be no career break while Dougal's around 😆

Have a great Bank Holiday everyone.

No business big or small could possibly survive 30 years without a fabulous team.

In all my years in business I have been beyond blessed to have had some of the best staff and volunteers helping out in the salon. Each one of them worked beyond the call of duty, many times having to care for an ill or injured homeless animal over and above their day's work.

From the very bottom of my heart thank you everyone for everything you did as part of team Canine Care.

Although I may, as the result of busy lives, lost touch with some of you over the years, nonetheless you will always be a big part of my Canine Care story.

Here are some pictures of those of you who I managed to find photos of. My sincere apologies to those whose pictures I didn't manage to find. Most of the photos have been taken in the salon but as you'll see there's quite a few also taken on crazy night's out.🙈 I like to think everyone is recognisable nonetheless 🤣🤣

With now just 3 weeks left until we close on Friday 9th June 2023 I continue to reflect back over my memories of almost 3 full decades.

As you will all know, Canine Care hasn't only been a dog grooming salon over the years but has also, with the help of staff and volunteers (whose pictures I will share later in the week), been a beacon of light for thousands of animals in need of help.

Today I want to share with you some of the beautiful moments that happened in our little waiting room when, one by one or two by two, so many homeless animals found love and hope in the arms of wonderful new owners.

Sadly some of these animals and heartbreakingly also some of these owners have now passed away. I hope noone finds any of these pictures upsetting to see but I just felt the need to share some of the beautiful happy memories.

Looking back I feel truly elated to see the joy that many, many animals found by being welcomed into the homes of so many people. Some for just a short while and some for more years than I could ever have imagined.

This is just a very small selection of opportunities animals received, if any of you have more pictures of animals you got through Canine Care please add them in the comments as I'd love to see them.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped me, over the years, to help an animal in need whether it be through donations, rehoming, volunteering or supporting our hundreds of fundraisers.

I'm delighted to say, while I'm taking a career break for now, I still hope to continue my voluntary work with Animal Support Trust and all being well I will make another trip to Serbia in July.

Where it's always good to look forward in life, at times, it's also good to look back in order to see how far we've come.

Over the next 4 weeks, until we close, I'll be looking back over our 30 years of Canine Care and reflecting on some of the very many good times over the years.

I've been gathering up some lovely photos over the weekend of dogs we have groomed throughout the years, staff and volunteers, animals rehomed, fundraising events and much more. So watch this space and add to the posts any photos you have from our memories.

What better picture to start reflecting with than this one of me as a youngster 😆 grooming one of my first dogs from away back in 1993. The photo is badly damaged but it's still clear to see there are a few wrinkles and grey hairs added since that day😆

12/05/2023

It's now just 4 weeks today until we close on Friday 9th June and I've got to say we've already had some very emotional moments but through it all we feel forever blessed.

How lucky have we been to have had such a privileged career.

I'm luckier than anyone to have had the honour of working with so many beautiful dogs for almost 30 full years.

There are no goodbyes for us because wherever they are our furry friends will always be in our hearts.

10/04/2023

I can barely believe I am writing this but after almost 30 full years of grooming, I have decided to take a CAREER BREAK as of Friday 9th June 2023. This has been an incredibly hard decision to make, especially after so many wonderful years grooming all your beautiful dogs.

I really can’t thank you all enough for all your custom over the years, for trusting our team to take care of your dog’s grooming needs, for all your continued support towards my many years of charity work and for all your loyalty, kindness and friendship.

For the next two months our appointments will continue as normal and we will be grooming away until we close our doors on Friday 9th June 2023.

It will be an emotional time for us, so please bear with us as we work towards our closure.

Who knows what the future brings or if I’ll return full time to grooming. One thing is for sure, I am forever grateful that almost 30 years ago I opened this business. In doing so myself and my team have been so blessed to have met some of the nicest, kindest, beautiful people and dogs throughout the years.

From the very bottom of my heart, THANK YOU everyone for making Canine Care such a success.
Lynda x

Big Jessie before and after grooming today.

What started out as a bad hair day turned around in the middle of the afternoon, after a good bath, a good brush and a nice light trim. Her proud smile just says it all.
One of the best dogs ever.❤️

We couldn't help but share the love and show you all this little video taken earlier today.

Many of you, who are in with us regularly, will know our dear friend Jean and what a great love she has for animals.

Jean has been coming into us almost daily for longer than I can remember and although we all love her dearly she makes no bones about it..... it's the dogs she's here to see. As you can see by Joey's excitement the dogs adore her every bit as much as she loves them.
Just beautiful ❤️❤️
