A very happy New Year to all of you who follow Layla’s adventures. You will be pleased to know that she is still her lovely, loopy licky self, as evidence by this video of her playing with my sister’s spaniel.
Our big news is that we have relocated to Yorkshire. It means that I am nearer to my family, and that we both have lots of new routes to learn and places to explore. Layla seemed to settle in straight away and knows her way around much better than I do! I can’t believe how clever she is.
Here’s hoping that we all have a wonderful 2023 and that we take on the year with as much enthusiasm as Layla does!
Tug-of-war with the door, anyone?
Video shows Layla venting her frustration at not being able to go out on such a rainy day by pulling a toy that’s attached to the door.
Same loopy Layla, same River Severn, different windy day.
Layla doesn’t seem to be complaining about her sharp decrease in workload. I have bought her various stimulation toys to keep her occupied and she is still getting out for exercise. I can’t believe that I’ve had my little sunshine dog for two years now and that she will be four next week. As you can see, she finds her own ways to enjoy lockdown!
The video is of Layla splashing around in the river.
She is so loving and gentle with tiny beings.
The video shows Layla with my four month old niece. Nora is laughing as Layla licks her hands.
This is the dog who can’t stand puddles when she’s in harness.
Yet another video of Layla, Out of harness, enjoying a big muddy puddle!
Layla digging a hole on the beach.
Last weekend, Layla and I celebrated our birthdays. We decided to give her a special third birthday by visiting Exeter where she was puppyworked and trained. It was great to meet up with her puppywalkers, boarders and other loyal fans for a meal on the seafront and a run on the beach in Exmouth. My joy that finally meeting these people face-to-face was nothing compared with Layla‘s! It was a special day for me because if it weren’t for their creation of this page, I wouldn’t have gained a great deal of support and some new friends since being partnered with my fluffy nutcase. They answered the questions I had about Leila before I even started training with her and it was a massive help to me. It can be more difficult for everyone involved with a guide dog to stay in touch if the dog is moved out of the area in which it started out. I have experienced this as my mum used to puppywalk and my beautiful first guide is now living in a different part of the country. Layla‘s page is a great example of how we have overcome this and recognise what a special girl she is. I loved celebrating that connection, and you can see that Layla had a lot of fun too!
The video shows Layla running around on the beach with her doggy friends. Excuse the sound of the coastal wind!
