Bit of fun with verbal cues and distance control this morning with Pod. Pet dogs don't always need to respond to only verbal cues but assistance dogs do. Repetition and practice, practice, practice with clear and distinct sounding cues win the day as well as top banana reinforcers! #positivetrainingforhappydogs #trainingwithrewards #trainingwithscience #positivereinforcementworks #dogtrainersowndogs #dogsdowhatworks
Girls with skills! Half term was a super opportunity for me to work with little Storm and her special people who are twins. All three girlies were amazing. Great partnerships come from great skills from both the dog and human sides of the teaching and learning conversation. Here's one twin demonstrating excellent trainery skills with clear and consistent cues and superb reinforcement delivery. We couldn't be more delighted and proud of Team Storm. Go girls! #togetherworkingwithpawsable

Young Storm and her first Training Session
Just look at wee Storm rocking her training! At 11 weeks, we're just starting out on her training journey as a Pawsable Autism Assistance Dog. We start with the tiniest steps and gradually build, build, build those skills. Storm is an absolute credit to her family, who have already worked so hard on getting her used to living in a busy family, house training and all the rest of the huge work it takes to raise a puppy. Super keen trainee Storm's little tail just does not stop wagging! Go Girl!
Just like building anything, behaviour needs a good foundation to support the next levels or layers. Thinking like a "behaviour architect" will help us train our dogs in gradual steps from a solid foundation and we can easily adjust the level of difficulty to different environments and distractions. Smarter training in cake form! #positivetrainingforhappydogs #positivereinforcementdogtraining #rewardbaseddogtraining #dogtrainerslondon #behaviourscience #behaviourarchitect #reinforcementlearning #forcefreeforhappydogs #forcefreedogtraining #forcefreedogtrainingworks
Yay, we've made such progress. We're doing split visits now, half at Mortimer's to practise more difficult steps in our training plan and then off for practise visits to the vets. Because we're in a new environment we drop back criteria to ensure that Mortimer is set up for success and comfortable and confident. What a joy to help Mortimer into co-operative fear free care. #fearfreecertifiedprofessional #fearfreepets #fearfreeanimaltrainer #fearfreetraining #classicalconditioningatwork #classicalconditioningforthewin #dogtrainerslondon #forcefreedogtraining #forcefreeforhappydogs #forcefreedogtrainingworks
Consequences Drive Behaviour
Walking over Cavaletti poles (a series of poles low to the ground) will help with physio for Ollie's back legs. But how do you start this if your dog is afraid or uncomfortable? Here we're using the teaching and learning process called "shaping". Shaping starts with a very small approximation of a target or goal behaviour. To build Ollie's confidence and help him learn stepping over a pole is fun and brings a good outcome to his behaviour, we start with one pole on the floor. Then we can gradually add height and more poles so that Ollie is set-up for success every step of the way. #dogtraineroflondon #forcefreedogtrainers #fearfree #fearfreepets #fearfreeanimaltrainer #fearfreehappyhomes #fearfreecertifiedprofessional #positivereinforcementdogtraining #bichonfrise #isleofdogs #isleofdogsdog
Ollie Down Stay Station and Passive Hand
Working with little Ollie is an absolute joy. He's a training pocket rocket. Ollie loves training but he'd become upset with handling and being touched. At our Assessment Consult we had a good chat about Ollie's needs and started some foundation training so that Ollie can learn to be super comfortable and confident with essential care-giving procedures for his health and well-being. Here's Ollie learning that hands near his head are a good thing!
Billy & Fidget - dynamic duo!
I can't tell you what a pick-me-up this pair were after losing Rusty. We've started to work on changing Billy's behaviour when he sees other dogs and Fidget wanted to join in the fun too. We started a little bit of training at our Assessment Consult and you can see Billy and Fidget's awesomeness! Great work dynamic duo!
Dennis Down Stay
As well as working on Muzzle Training for vet visits and helping Dennis feel confident with hands around his head, we've been having fun training some foundation behaviours. Here's Dennis rockin his Down Stay with a typical GSD "my eyes will follow you wherever you go" kind of look! What a dog!
Pre-Muzzle Training with Ace
Watching this gorgeous boy's confidence blossom with reach and touch in preparation for his muzzle training has been such a joy. Here are some clips from our training. Each step in our training plan slowly increases the invasiveness of the handling, and at each step, we want Ace to be absolutely comfortable. Ace most certainly does ace his training!
Gigi - The Final Step with Toothbrushing
All the elements in Gigi's toothbrushing Training Plan are finally combined - We have Toothbrushing!
