Fantastic article from CIVT (thanks!) detailing how brewers yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae ) is beneficial to gut health by altering gut microbiota, increasing beneficial bacteria and reducing inflammation, S. cerevisiae and has produced anti-depressant and anti-anxiety effects in mice through enhancing central serotonin, norepinephrine and GABAergic transmissions. Very interesting in relation to our dogs, especially as I'm geek-ing out in studying Canine Nutrition at the moment 🤓

CIVT provides world-leading education in natural medicine, including three accredited online post-graduate qualifications, industry-recognised certifications

Hi,

Our insurance company has updated us on the situation regarding XL Bully type dogs , please see below. We appreciate that this legislation will not apply to NI (at the moment) and we shall continue to monitor, work with these and other breeds on a risk assessed basis.

Any questions please get in touch.

Proofing/using the cue.

I always go on about how vital muzzle training is and here is another example.

Murphy has a sore ear (have a look at the attached video and note the body language, eyes, ears, head position and finally the little outchy noise, poor wee man).

With pain a dog could understandably "react" (so would we!), that is why vet checks are done before we do any behavioural modification work.

So in the vets we have many practiced techniques to make the experience easier e.g. ; hand touch, hand watch, clippers being on, practicing putting a pretend stethoscope on him, watch me, collar touch, chin rest, body hold in various places, moving legs, my hand over his nose etc. But in a situation where he may be in pain (like he was today), I put the muzzle on- no big deal. This keeps the fantastic vet safe and able to concentrate on her diagnosis, me more relaxed and Murphy has an association that muzzle=normal and really good things happen.

While waiting at the vets we were practicing muzzle (and numerous other cues), so he makes associations that while in the vets good things happen (okay.....some times that thermometer goes somewhere it should not go!). We often just pop in to the vets (most vets are happy for clients to do this, but please check). We go in, do a quick weigh in, chat to the lovely team, do some cues, have some treats, have some fun and leave. Again, this helps to make positive association's with this element of a dogs world.

Any questions about this please get in touch.

Oh, Murphy has an ear infection and got some ear ointment and lots of fuss.

Here we are working on three behaviours at once;

🐾 Recall
🐾 Hand touch
🐾 Collar touch

Using a you got it right! marker (in this case a click noise) and rewards ( kibble and lots of praise/fun).

Lovely progress.
