As a society, we like to hide from what is upsetting. But if you can find the strength to face it, you will understand that you have a choice. A choice to say no to this violence and cruelty. A choice to calmly and peacefully advocate for a different world.

The pigs at our Sanctuary are named, loved, respected and never ever harmed. This should not be the exception to the rule. 💚🙏

Both pigs have finally made it to the safety of the Sanctuary! 🙌🙌

It was a long, challenging day for these two, and the bunch of amazing humans who gave their time and efforts to help them to make the journey.

This video, by the wonderful people of , doesn’t really convey how hard it was!! A challenging load into the vehicle, a very slow, long walk through the Sanctuary, with lots of rests along the way.. but finally both pigs made it 🥳

Now, some serious rest 🐷🐷 we’ll give them some time to settle, emotionally process, and get used to their new environment. We can then properly assess them both, and make a plan for their recovery and rehabilitation.

Little Sunny and not-so-little Sunny a year apart! 💚🐑

Sunny the lamb came to us in February 2024, sadly orphaned at just a few days old.

At first he was very nervous and unable to drink from a bottle, but he became fast friends with Violet, another orphaned lamb, and quickly came out of his shell.

They are now much bigger, and have made lots more sheepy friends at the sanctuary! Destined for an unhappy start in life, these two sweet souls have been given a second chance at happiness and love💚🌱🐑

📣 RESCUE UPDATE 📣 can you help?

This afternoon we are facing a challenging rescue. These two 6-year old pigs are desperately in need of a lifeline, or they will be euthanised.

They have lived their lives in this stable, as part of a petting farm at a local holiday park. But due to a change in management, they need a new home. A failed attempt to get them to us last week has put them even more at risk.

They are not very mobile, as they are overweight and have issues with their feet, and so loading them into a trailer/vehicle is challenging.

We are going there later today, with a team of willing, compassionate volunteers, and we will do everything we can to bring them safely to the Sanctuary.

We want with all our hearts to give them the chance at a happy life - to be able to try to improve their health and mental well-being, and give them the freedom and love that they deserve. It has been suggested to put them to sleep, due to the stress of moving and their age, but we believe in second chances.

💚🐐Happy goats at Pear Tree!🐐💚

This is Virgilio, leader of the pack of our gorgeous goats! Rescued from a dairy farm that was closing down, Virgilio and 5 other babies arrived at the sanctuary at just 2 weeks old.

5 years down the line, they are happy residents at the sanctuary, able to enjoy a life in the sunshine and a lifetime of kindness and compassion thanks to the wonderful humans at Pear Tree 💚🙏🌱

🙏 NEW RESCUE ALERT! 🙏

🐰 PLUS help us to name the new bunny on the block! 🐰

A change in ownership at a local holiday park has left the animals of their petting farm with nowhere to go. We have stepped in, and the following individuals are now safely at the Sanctuary...

6 ducks, 4 turkeys, 18 hens, 3 cockerels, and 1 bunny. 2 pigs and one more cockerel are due to arrive this week.

But with a Sanctuary that was already bursting at the seams, and a bank account totally empty from our February feed bill of £800 and vets bills of around £300, we have minimal resources.

We need your help to give them the immediate care that they need.

The animals have a variety of health concerns and treatment needs. We have scaly leg mites, overgrown pigs toes, painful bumblefoot, sore skin, and a bunny needing to be neutered so he can meet and live with some friends.

Everything adds up and we desperately need your help 🙏

🐰 NAME THE BUNNY BOY! 🐰

This gorgeous boy has had his neuter operation, and is taking his time to settle and understand what’s happening to him. A change in environment is huge for him, and he arrived very withdrawn and terrified. We’re already starting to see signs of him coming out of his shell, and we would love to introduce him to the bunnies in the Bunny Village nextdoor soon.

But for now, we need a name! Please consider making a donation to our crowdfunder, and pop a name suggestion either in the comments there, or here. Our amazing volunteers will select one soon and announce it!

URGENT

These two cockerels are about to have their necks wrung, just because they are boys.

The Sanctuary is completely full, as we have already taken in cockerels and no longer have any space.

Is anyone out there able to offer these two a home? Or a foster home until a forever home is found?

We are a Sanctuary in the gorgeous countryside of Somerset, UK. We’re home to around 100 amazing individuals - all saved from slaughter, neglect, or a horrible fate. We offer them safety, medical care and a chance at a life of peace.

We were there when they needed us, and now we need you to help us continue.

Here at the Sanctuary we work incredibly hard every day to care for the long-term residents, and help more animals in need. We are all volunteers, and every ounce of our energy and time is spent on keeping everyone safe and happy. But we are struggling, and we need your help.

We are looking to grow our team, to help us to develop and thrive.

We need:
💚 trustees for the charity who are passionate, dedicated and have skills to bring to the table
💚 fundraising managers who are skilled, committed and can help us achieve more donations
💚 a social media manager, who can take on the Sanctuary pages and help us to grow

Please note: all positions are remote, and can be done from anywhere in our even outside the UK! Our trustee meeting are held online.

We need to make improvements to the Sanctuary, and to secure its future. We need to continue our work, to be there when those who need us are desperate, and to spread the message of compassion far and wide.

🙏 HOME NEEDED 🏡

We have agreed to take in 3 cockerels from a holiday park that is closing down.

All 3 have scaly leg mites, so they will be treated at the Sanctuary before being ready to go to their new home.

We cannot keep cockerels at the Sanctuary sadly - but we are desperate to be able to help these 3 and save them from a horrible ending.

Please help us to find a forever home for them, where they will be loved and able to live out their lives in peace.

🙌 Adoption Success Stories 🙌

Over the last month, the Sanctuary has helped lots of beautiful, innocent and very worthy individuals to find their forever homes with loving families 🤗🥳

We’ve helped..
🐑 five beautiful sheep, Emma, Eldrin, Ginny, Zarie and Willow
🐓 two sweet little cockerel/hen siblings
🐑 three very timid sheep saved from slaughter by a kind human who brought them to safety
🐰 one lonely bunny who needs a lot of love and attention
🐔 and a whopping 148 scared and stressed hens from a commercial egg farm

All of whom are now going to be loved and treated with respect and care for the rest of their lucky lives.

THANK YOU - to everyone involved in these rescues and adoptions, and to every single person to donates to the Sanctuary.

We could not do anything like this without your support, and with the valuable time that every person here puts in for the animals. We just hope that these beautiful individuals know how much they are loved.

🙌 Thank you Rebecca for these beautiful donated hen toys - a fancy wooden dust bath, and jungle gym!

The hens and turkeys are being very over-cautious of them so far, sussing them out from a distance, but we know that they’ll love them soon enough 🥰

We have been asked to help to find a loving forever home for these 5 gorgeous Shetland ewes.

They’re between the ages of 3 and 7, and are lovely girls with loads of character. They are Emma, Eldrin, Ginny, Zarie and Willow. They have previously shared their field with horses and free range chickens, and are very used to dogs.

They are currently near Dulverton in Somerset.

Good morning to Josie and Mavis the ferrets 🥰🌸🌞

Virgilio and Ada bashing horns over one of their favorite scratching sticks 😅 The goats use their horns for play, communication, self defense and even to regulate their body temperature! Most of our resident goats have been with us for almost all of their lives, as they arrived with us as reject babies from a goat milk farm. So luckily, they don’t do this to us as they know it would hurt our fragile human bodies!! 💚 #goatsaregreat

Daisy, Bertie and Tiny are our eldest sheepies, so need a little extra care. They get special dinners with rosehips, turmeric and other supplements to keep them healthy and support their immune systems through their later years. Daisy and Bertie are also blind, but do such a fantastic job at following the sound of our voices to walk down from the field, through the sanctuary yard, into the garden, and to their bedroom each night. Even just these three individuals have taught us so much. People tend to think that sheep are boring, and devoid of personality. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Every single one is their own identity. A beautiful, worthy soul. Excuse the shouty lambs next door, demanding their bedtime bottle! #rescuesheep

Our Journey

Our animals mean the absolute world to us. They always have been, and always will be, part of our loving family.

We don’t see the differences between different species. We know that we can and should love them all as if they were our own.

This is why Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary was born. We are at the very start of our adventure, and we know it won’t be easy, but we believe our passion and compassion will guide us through.

Tomorrow we welcome our first rescues - 3 pigs who we have promised to love and take care of. They will be the first of many, we are sure.
