Virgilio and Ada bashing horns over one of their favorite scratching sticks 😅
The goats use their horns for play, communication, self defense and even to regulate their body temperature! Most of our resident goats have been with us for almost all of their lives, as they arrived with us as reject babies from a goat milk farm. So luckily, they don’t do this to us as they know it would hurt our fragile human bodies!!

Join the oldies for dinner..
Daisy, Bertie and Tiny are our eldest sheepies, so need a little extra care. They get special dinners with rosehips, turmeric and other supplements to keep them healthy and support their immune systems through their later years.
Daisy and Bertie are also blind, but do such a fantastic job at following the sound of our voices to walk down from the field, through the sanctuary yard, into the garden, and to their bedroom each night.
Even just these three individuals have taught us so much. People tend to think that sheep are boring, and devoid of personality. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Every single one is their own identity. A beautiful, worthy soul.
Excuse the shouty lambs next door, demanding their bedtime bottle!

2023 has felt a bit like trying to roll uphill sometimes… not easy but we muddle through somehow! 😅😅 Wishing everyone a positive, inspiring and compassionate New Year! 💚🎄#happynewyear #friendsnotfood
Two brave little individuals meeting their new friends!
Eweliette and Dora did so well today, sharing breakfast and hay with the flock, and spending all day grazing and lounging around the field with them. Tonight will be their first big sleepover in the sheep bedroom, and they’re officially part of the gang!

💝LAST CHANCE to buy some sanctuary chocolate truffles - due to be posted out tomorrow! Handmade, vegan, scrumptious and ALL proceeds help to care for these two sheepies as well as all of the other rescue animals here at the Sanctuary 🥰

Say good morning to two very chatty new arrivals! 🦃🦃
Gabi and Mara narrowly avoided death this week, finding their way to the Sanctuary, whilst many others were sent to the slaughterhouse.
These two individuals are sweet, inquisitive, and really keen to trust us and start their long life of freedom here at the Sanctuary. We hope they don’t know what could have been, where their brothers and sisters have gone. And we wish for a world where none of this horrific pain happens every year 💔

🐽 Babe the pig being super helpful as always ☺️
🐷 We have 12 pig residents at the Sanctuary, all amazing and as deserving of respect and kindness as the dogs and cats that we share our homes with.
Babe suffered a really serious illness last year, in which he couldn’t walk for 6 days, and we thought we would lose him. We’re so grateful that he is still with us, but still grieve for his mum Chloe and sister Blossom who didn’t make it. Caring for animals is not easy work. It takes emotional strength and breaks your heart over and over again. Anyone who has lost a loved one will know this pain. But wherever we can we will continue to offer sanctuary to those who’s alternative is a terrifying, horrific death, because everyone deserves a chance to live.

Albie, Josie, Sabrina and Mavis bringing some joy to your Thursday evening 🥰 #rescueferrets #animalsanctuary
Betty has been giving as a real scare for the past week or so 😳🐑
She went on a hunger strike, refusing to eat any of the daily sheep breakfast or dinner, and not showing any interest in grazing or hay! Any animal off their feed is obviously a big worry, so we brought Betty down to the garden stable to have a closer look at what was going on for her.
We treated her for bloat, worms, and anything else we thought may help. The vet took blood samples and checked for parasites as well as other symptoms. She showed signs of dehydration and malnutrition, but nothing else significant. All we could find was a slightly wobbly front tooth, and we were unsure as to whether that would stop her eating.
For the past week or so we’ve been syringe-feeding her, tempting her with all sorts of treats, but most days, not even a rich tea biscuit could get her interested! 🍪
Thankfully, she has been bright and perky throughout. After painkillers, she seems to show more of a keenness for grass, as you can see in this video!
We’re monitoring her closely, and keeping everything crossed that she will pull through. Send all your healing vibes and appetite encouragement this way for Betty!

Our biggest rescue sanctuary residents 😍🌞
Horses, although often prized and expensive ‘pets’, are just as exploited as many other animals. Bought and sold like objects, they are commonly deemed useless when they cannot be ridden or used by humans.
Around 375 racehorses will be killed this year. Because their spines, necks, legs or hips are broken, they’re raced to exhaustion, heart attack or burst blood vessels in their lungs. Some are killed just because they are no longer commercially viable. This number does NOT include the thousands of others who are killed before they ever reach the racetrack, those who are deemed not good enough, or those who get a bullet in the head instead of the retirement they deserve.
We don’t think that these 3 owe us anything. Just as none of the other residents do. We’ll never ask anything of them, apart from to be happy, healthy and themselves.
Don’t support cruel sports. There are far better ways to be entertained!
💚
