How handsome is Louis! 😍

Louis came in today for a blood sample and nail clip 🩺
Louis is the sweetest boy but was a bit nervous as he is a rescue dog so is unsure of new people. However with some calming medications, treats and cuddles he was enjoying himself by the end of the consult, and even started falling asleep during his blood sample! ❤️

Well done for being so brave Louis! ⭐️

Important Changes to RCVS Guidelines

The RCVS, which is the governing body of all veterinary surgeons in the UK, produces a 'Code of Professional Conduct' which all vets working in the UK must follow. They have recently made some changes to this Code which have now come into force.

The key changes are:
The RCVS (the governing body of the veterinary industry) has brought in new rules with regard to prescribing of medications. The new “under-care” guidelines cover all drugs but mainly affect antimicrobials (antibiotics), antiparasitic (flea and worm treatments) and controlled drugs (some strong pain killers such as gabapentin).

They mean that we are not allowed to prescribe without having seen the animal for a consultation except in exceptional circumstances. This may mean you may be asked to bring your pet in more regularly for check ups to allow us to abide to these rules. In most cases if we have seen your pet/s within the last 12 months or if they have their annual vaccination/s, this should be adequate for us to prescribe flea and worm treatment, for the following year.

If we have not seen your pet within the previous 12 months, we will need to re see your pet in order that we abide by these rules and to prescribe flea & worm treatment for them. Similarly, if you change from one flea & wormer product to another, the above also applies. There will be a repeat consultant charge for this of £32.

Please be understanding to our staff if they ask you to bring your pet in to be seen. Further details can be found on the RCVS website or speak to the vet next time you are in. We advise that you contact the practice by telephone or email to request your pet's flea, tick and worm treatment to ensure that we are able to prescribe the required medication.

Thank you for your understanding

Good afternoon to our clients

We would like to inform you of some changes we are making to our opening times and from Saturday 16th September 2023, the following will come into effect.

From Monday to Friday we will close at 6.30pm and we will no longer open on a Sunday. However we will open slightly longer on Saturdays, from 9.00am and close at 1pm.

Minight Vet will be our out of hours provider outside of these hours and can be reached on 01244 853823.

These changes have been necessary owing to various recruitment and staffing issues within the Veterinary profession.

We thank you for your continued support and understanding in this matter.

🪶 Found a baby bird out of the nest? 🐦

We have had a few calls recently regarding fledglings and nestlings found. Although this is extremely kind, it is often not in the birds best interest to intervene unless they are sick or injured. Please see the diagram below for further guidance.

MARCH 2023 IS PET SMILE MONTH!!

We are pleased to offer you a FREE dental check with one of our nurses and any dental treatment carried out will receive a 10% discount during March!!

Dental disease is one of the most frequent ailments seen by veterinary surgeons and can be found to some degree, in the majority of cats and dogs over two or three years of age. An accumulation of tartar and bacteria on the teeth will at some stage lead to infection and gingivitis. If this is left untreated, it will result in periodontal disease and eventual tooth loss.

Why not take advantage of this generous offer and contact the surgery to make an appointment with one of our nurses at your earliest convenience. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

MISSING

Tabasco, a 10 month old Calico and one of our own is missing from Hoole. Last seen on Lightfoot Street appox 30 hours ago. She is chipped and has 2 collars on, one with contact info (and the name of her Vets) and one that says please do not feed. Please keep your eyes peeled for our little lady, her family are very worried! 🐾❤️

01/12/2022

Scam warning: Please note, if you recieve any calls from anybody purporting to be Barnhouse Vets, claiming your missing pet has been handed in to us and requesting a retainer fee - this is a scam. We would NEVER request a retainer fee to reunite a missing pet.
