Newport Pet Services is looking for a reliable, friendly and trustworthy person to join our team!

The successful candidate will be a Dog Walker covering Newport (Shropshire) and the surrounding area and will be responsible for providing solo dog walks and cat/small animal visits to our lovely clients.

Newport Pet Services operates a full service 7 days a week so the successful candidate will need good flexibility across weekdays and weekends. Mondays to Thursdays are our busiest days although Fridays and weekends are becoming increasingly busier too. Lunchtimes in particular are very busy and will be a must for the successful applicant. The number of hours available vary week to week, depending on what we have booked in.

Candidates must:
- Be over the age of 18 years
- Be flexible, reliable, and available for weekend work as well as during the week
- Be friendly, approachable and great with both animals and people
- Be confident working alone as well as part of a wider team
- Have experience as a pet owner. Any additional animal-related qualifications/experience is a bonus!
- Have their own vehicle and smartphone and be willing to use them for work
- Hold a current DBS certificate or be willing to obtain one (cost will be reimbursed)

Pay is minimum wage, mileage is reimbursed at a rate of 25p per mile, and we offer other employee perks too!

This is an ideal job to for a student or active retired person, or to fit around school drop-offs/pick-ups.

We’ll be starting walks a little earlier than usual today to try and avoid the high winds forecast later this afternoon when Storm Agnes arrives.

This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our staff and our clients’ dogs.

☀️☀️☀️HOT WEATHER PROTOCOL IMPLEMENTED THIS WEEK☀️☀️☀️

Due to the forcast heat this week with temperatures set to hit 28°C at some points, we’ll be moving to garden visits after 10am each day.

As always, we please ask our customers to leave an extra bowl of water down for their dog and we’ll ensure they’re replenished with fresh water before we leave.

REMINDER RE: PAYMENT

I hate doing this as I’m very British about money and hate discussing it, but I feel I need to reiterate our Terms & Conditions as unfortunately we’ve had a few instances recently where I feel my good nature has been taken advantage of.

DOG WALKING

We have a 48 hour cancellation policy on dog walks. If you cancel your walk with less than 48 hours notice, you lose the walk as we cannot fill the slot with such short notice. This includes turning our staff away on the doorstep.

PET VISITS

Bookings for pet visits for cats/small animals/ponies are not confirmed until a 50% non-refundable deposit is made. If you make an enquiry with us, please do not assume that you’re booked in until the deposit has been made. We’ve had several instances recently where we’ve held dates for a customer, turned away other customers in the meantime, and then had the original customer change their mind. This leaves us out of pocket twice.

The remaining 50% of your balance is due no later than 2 weeks before the start of your pet visits. If you decide to delay the start of your trip away, come back from holiday early, or cancel your trip completely, then unfortunately we cannot offer a refund as we have already allocated those booking slots to you and your pets and turned away other customers in order to do so. It’s the same as if you buy tickets to a theatre - if you decide not to go, then the theatre don’t offer a refund as they’ve already reserved those seats for you and you alone.

BANK HOLIDAYS

We have always charged double rate for Bank Holidays. This has been the case since the day we opened the business and has never changed. This is because we are sacrificing time with our own families, friends, and pets on a Bank Holiday in order to care for yours and so charge a premium for this service.
