Tip Tuesday

Did you know grass seeds can be dangerous for dogs? Last summer, Bentley ended up with one in his eye — and it wasn’t fun for anyone!

Keep an eye (literally!) out for redness, pawing at the face, or squinting after a walk in long grass. A quick once-over after every walk can make all the difference .

It’s been a while since we introduced ourselves… so hello again!

I’m Emma, and I started Whitburn Walkies back in February 2014, with support from The Prince’s Trust and my amazing chocolate Labrador, Ozzy

After redundancy and a temporary job that didn’t go permanent, I took the leap into something I truly loved: working outdoors with animals. With Ozzy by my side, I started walking a friend’s horse… and slowly built my way up to solo dog walks, then small group walks, and eventually bought my first van — which is still going strong today!

Ozzy sadly passed during lockdown at age 10, due to arthritis, but his legacy lives on through everything we do — and even our natural dog treat brand, Ozzerix Nutrition, is named in his honour.

Since then, I’ve studied canine psychology, behaviour (Level 4), and canine nutrition through ISCP, allowing me to use ISCP.Dip.Canine.Nutrition after my name and offer tailored support to dogs in our care.

Now, 11 years later, my little team has grown — I’m joined full-time by my partner Craig, who many of your dogs already know from adventure days. He’s a huge hit with the dogs, and now has his own big van and regular walks that he leads each week

And at home? We’re proud pawrents to:
Dexter – the nervous (and very fussy!) black Lab
Bentley – our crazy redhead who keeps us on our toes
Echo – our beautiful 32-year-old horse

We’re so grateful to every single dog, owner, and supporter who’s helped shape Whitburn Walkies into what it is today

At whitburn walkies we never rush your dog into a group.

Every dog is different - and every walk is tailored.

One to one walks
Ideal for shy, nervous, reactive, or young dogs still building confidence
We focus on calm exploration, scent work, and gentle introductions at their pace.

Buddy walks
If your dog enjoys company but isn't ready for a group, we'll find the right match - a dog with similar energy and calm confidence to walk alongside them.

Group walks
Our group walks are carefully selected. Calm, fun, balanced walks with dogs who enjoy each others company.

We observe behaviour
We match personality with energy
We offer trial walks before any decisions are made

Because we believe dog walking should never be "One size fits all."

To All dog parents!

Looks like it's going to be a warm one tomorrow! We want to assure you we're putting your dog's safety first.
We're planning to get everyone out for their walks early in the morning to beat the heat. If we find the temperature is rising too much or your pup is feeling the warmth, we'll absolutely cut the walk short.

Plus, we've got our garden ready with a refreshing paddle pool and some engaging scent games for a cool-down session!

If you'd prefer to switch your dog's walk day or cancel altogether for tomorrow, just drop us a message.
