Have you got a teenage terror? Not coming when called and pulling you every where?
Try these three things to start making a difference today.
1. Play more with your dog - at home, indoors, outdoors on the street, in a quiet area and at the park. Use toys and food, dog not interested, then try a quieter area or try out new foods or toys and play differently to discover what your dog enjoys. Don’t leave the home without things to work with your dog. 🦮
2. Use their daily food to train and focus on eye contact, being close to you and when your dog runs towards you. Do this lots indoors and in quieter spaces first, use something higher value when you start pushing out into busier areas. 🐕
3. So nothing with your dog, just chill with them in different spaces and watch the world go by. Help them to be still and not always on the go. 🐩

When you bump into an old client on your walk. I knew Ivy was always going to be big, but wow is she huge. I mean are we that surprised as she is a Great Dane. One big softy.
Now a buzzing teenager, galloping around enjoying life.

It is so important we teach children how to act around dogs.
Here is some useful tips.
If a dog runs over:
Be a Tree - stand straight and still, fold your hands in under your arms, look at your shoes until they go away.
Be a Rock, if they start jumping on you and knock you down, curl up and protect face and neck with arms and hands.
If they want to pet a dog then do this:
Ask your parent/guardian if you can pet that dog.
Wait for the parent/guardian to talk to the dogs owner and give the ok.
Be 2 metres away and ask the dog to come over to you, if they don't then leave them alone.
When you do pet them do not hug or kiss them, soft stroking on their chest, back or under their chin.
Don't stare at them in the eyes, make loud noises or sudden movements.
Don't try to take anything away from them.
Don't pet them while they are sleeping, eating, drinking or chewing.

Hi everyone, we are looking for a venue in East Finchley, Hampstead Garden Suburb, Hampstead, Highgate.
The more places we can offer training the more dogs we will have in the area that are adding to society.
We don’t mind thinking outside the box when looking for a space to hire, so if anything comes to mind please let me know below or send me a message.
Ideally the venue all have :
Toilets
An outside space with an area that’s got some cover (indoor space is a bonus)
Potentially some storage
Parking either at the venue or on streets
We really are open to anything, hope you can help.

We are offering free dog training this Friday 15th December in Priory Park, we need you and your dog for 30 minutes, the slots are 1pm, 1.30pm, 2pm, 2.30pm.
Your dog needs to be:
Comfortable with a stranger handling them, playing with them and giving them food.
Relaxed in a park environment with other dogs and people around.
If you feel you have the dog for us then please send us a message and which time slot you could come for.

The right person would have the experience (more training can be given if necessary) to teach a range of different classes, our new Walk and Train programme, as well as our soon-to-be-released Adventure Walks and 1-2-1 training work as well.
The hours can be flexible, but ideally will include some evening and weekend work (as well as cover for the other trainers).
The person we are looking for would be ready to jump straight into teaching classes and be versatile in what they are teaching. This person would also have competent I.T. skills (WhatsApp, Gmail, Google Calendar), be able to plan classes and private lessons.
They would need to be motivated, good at managing their own time, and keen to get really stuck in as we grow the business year on year.
Lots of CPD opportunities are available to someone who can fit in with our team of open- minded, experienced dog trainers.

Well done for everyone who got the guess the breed right. This was a hard one, but a lovely breed.
This is a Berger Picard or Picardy Shepherd.
Taken from the Berger Picard Club of America:
"The Berger Picard is a medium-sized, well-muscled dog, slightly longer than tall with a tousled yet elegant appearance. Their ears are naturally erect, high-set and quite wide at the base. Their eyebrows are thick, but do not shield their dark frank eyes. Yes, they really do smile! Their natural tail normally reaches to the hock and is carried with a slight J-curve at the tip.
Their weather proof coat is harsh and crisp to the touch, not excessively long with a minimal undercoat. Coat colors fall into two basic colors: fawn and brindle.
Temperament
The Berger Picard’s attributes include a lively, intelligent personality and a sensitive and assertive disposition that responds quickly to obedience training. By and large Picards are laid back and mellow but they are known for having a stubborn streak and being reserved towards strangers.
Picards are energetic and hard working, alert, loyal and sweet-tempered with children. They are happiest when they have a job to do. They also have a protective nature, making them a good guard dog. However, they are not excessive barkers.
The breed also has a well developed sense of humor making them an endearing companion, and they continue to be used very effectively as both sheep and cattle herders in their native land and elsewhere."

Avoid this number one mistake new puppy owners make. When you go to a green space or park, stay off the paths. You will have no control over what comes your way and your puppy, on a lead will either want to jump on everything and get super excited, or will get worried about the fact they can’t get away. This will lead to your dog potentially becoming reactive. The excited dogs will start to get frustrated and could start barking at everything they can’t get to. The worried dogs will enjoy the places less and less, lose confidence on the lead and will use behaviours like barking to get space away from everything. Stay off the paths, go to quiet areas and play, train, explore and watch everything. Then you can decide what your pup goes to interact with, and as they get better you can return to the paths. The Hunting Game is just one thing we teach in our upcoming recall workshop - www.lukesdogschool.co.uk/workshops. Teaching your dog you are the top hunter and to come running when you find the good stuff. - Have some high value food hidden away in your hand. - Walk around a low distracting environment, then pretend you have found something on the floor, point down towards it and say “Wow, What’s This!”. - When your dog comes over just discretely drop a piece of food out your hand as if you found them on the floor. - Once they are eating it just move away and go hunting again. - Don’t worry how close they are to you, just keep hunting. And don’t repeat your words too often. - Your dog will start to realise how great a hunter you are and want to keep an ear out for when you have found more things and come running over. The beauty of this game is that we are not asking them to come over, we are simply letting them know we have found something amazing and they would be an idiot to not get involved. I find touching the ground as they come over makes this more effective. Then slowly move into more distracting environments. This teaches them to be able to respond to you and want to interact with you within that environment. Again, you can use toys as they come over, but I find this game works best with food. Warning! Dog Bite. In this clip you will see a woman approach a dog and try to hug it. The dog snaps a warning and the owner also says to stop. The woman comes in again and gets bitten. Simple steps could have avoided this. Step 1. Always ask the owner first if it’s ok to greet the dog. If they say no or hesitate then leave the dog alone. Step 2. If they say yes, crouch down side on to the dog 1-2 metres away and call the dog over, if they don’t come then leave them alone. Step 3. If they come over then stroke them under the chin or on the chest, calmly, not over the head. Step 4.
