Ted's Story: A Beacon of Hope 🌟 For the past six months, Ted has been receiving chemotherapy with us for lymphoma, and we're overjoyed to announce he's in remission!

At Beacon View Vets, we're dedicated to providing advanced care close to home. Chemotherapy for pets is often very different from human treatment, with fewer side effects and excellent quality of life during treatment.

We celebrated Ted's last dose with a little party – he's been such a star! 🥳

At Beacon View Vets, we will always be here for your pets - to help them stay healthy, or care for them when they are sick, 7 days a week.

Construction has officially begun on our new clinical area in the adjacent building!

Internally, we've made significant progress. A large chimney has been removed and walls have been taken down to accommodate the installation of our new CT scanner.

Externally, Evan and Ad have been diligently working to demolish an old conservatory and excavate the footings for the extension. This extension will then house one of our new surgical theatres and a new preparation area.

We are thrilled to have commenced this huge project and will keep you informed of all the exciting developments as construction progresses!

This is the lovely Lily, who we saw as an emergency this week.

Lily's mom gave her a Christmas treat, and unfortunately, Lilly broke off a large piece and tried to swallow it. Lily became very distressed and was trying to vomit. We took an X-ray, which confirmed that she had a foreign object stuck in her esophagus.

Thankfully, our practice has a gastroscope, allowing us to quickly investigate. In the video, you can watch Sarah and Claire carefully insert the gastroscope into Lily's esophagus. They then discovered a large piece of the treat lodged there, right where it passes over her heart. Remarkably, you can even see Lily's heartbeat through the esophageal wall!

The team, consisting of Claire, Sarah, Meg, and Gemma, then used a specialised tool to carefully grasp and break up the treat. They successfully dislodged the blockage and pushed it down into Lily's stomach, where it will be safely digested.

We are delighted to announce to all our followers that our exceptional student nurse, Hayley, has recently passed her final exams and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse! Hayley's apprenticeship involved three years of dedicated hard work.

We are a close-knit team and immensely proud of Hayley's unwavering commitment. Passing all the exams and assessments is a significant accomplishment – not only for Hayley but also for the entire Beacon View team who have supported her throughout her journey, especially Megan, her coach.

Congratulations, Hayley, from everyone at Beacon View! 💜🩵

Continuing our meet the team series please let us introduce Emily!

With an inherent love for animals since childhood, Emily’s journey into the realm of veterinary care was a natural calling. Beginning with volunteer work at an alpaca farm and later as a dedicated dog walker at Dogs Trust, her passion for animal welfare flourished, culminating in a decade-long career at the charity.

At Beacon View Vets, Emily finds immense joy in connecting with clients and their beloved pets, ensuring each visit is met with warmth and reassurance. She is dedication to fostering a positive experiences for both pets and owners.

Emily shares her home with a rescue Golden Retriever named Nutmeg, alongside two feline companions, Ace and Leo.

With a background in animal science, including a BSc degree, Emily’s professional journey has seen her working in the behavioural department at Dogs Trust, providing invaluable support to dogs in need.

Joining the Beacon View team in March was a decision driven by the clinic’s outstanding reputation and commitment to fear-free practice.

“I was looking to join the team due to the great reputation and loved that they look out for the animals welfare with being a fear free practice. Everyone has been so lovely and welcoming and I really enjoy working here.”

Outside of work, Emily loves spending time outdoors, whether it’s exploring fields or strolling along the beach with Nutmeg and her daughter.

Continuing our meet the team series please allow us to introduce the lovely Sarah! Sarah joined our team in 2023, and quickly became an important member of our team.

Sarah is a passionate vet who grew up in the picturesque town of Macclesfield in Cheshire. Her love for animals and desire to make a positive impact on their lives led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. After completing her studies at Cambridge University, she ventured South and settled in the charming coastal town of Folkestone, where she currently lives close to the beach.

Sarah’s deep rooted fascination with the diverse and ever evolving field of veterinary medicine was ignited during her childhood. She recognised that becoming a veterinarian would provide her with an exciting and multifaceted opportunity to work with animals while also making a meaningful difference in the lives of their owners.

Sarah enjoys the variety of small animal veterinary medicine but has developed a particular interest in anaesthesia and analgesia. She is currently studying towards her advanced practice certificate in this area.

Outside of her professional life, Sarah enjoys rowing on the sea and often travels up and down the coast to national competitions. She also enjoys cooking, and reading a good book. Sarah’s artistic side shines through her musical talents as well, as she is skilled in playing both the clarinet and the piano.

Solly recently visited us with severe sneezing. After a thorough examination and discussion with his owner we agreed that the best course of action was to perform a general anaesthetic to explore his nose using a rhinoscope.

A rhinoscope is a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light that allows us to examine the nasal passages in great detail. Thankfully we are able to offer this at our Eastry surgery.

During the procedure, vets Katie and Sarah, made a surprising discovery: a small chunk of stick was lodged in Solly's nasal cavity! The stick was carefully removed, and Solly is now making a full recovery.

Lottie captured this sweet moment of Pippin enjoying some well-deserved relaxation in her cat castle after her spay surgery. To protect her incision, she's sporting a stylish red recovery suit.

At Beacon View, we believe in creating a stress-free environment for our feline friends. That's why we provide cat castles in our accommodations. Our commitment to feline welfare has earned us the highest gold standard ISFM award, an international recognition of our dedication to meeting the specific needs of cats. We're thrilled to be the only practice in the Deal and Sandwich area to achieve this gold standard.
