Did you know that Beacon View are the proud owners of a specialist HD video gastroscope and can now offer gastroscopy to our own clients and local pets in the Canterbury and East Kent area.
A gastroscope is a slender and flexible tool with a high resolution camera that allows our team to gain a clear and comprehensive view of the inner workings of your pet's gastrointestinal tract.
In the video above you can see us investigating the stomach lining for signs of ulcers. However a gastroscope also enables us to:
Foreign body removal: The gastroscope can identify and locate ingested objects, allowing for targeted removal without the need for surgery.
Tumours and growths: Early detection of gastrointestinal tumours can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): The gastroscope aids in evaluating the severity and extent of inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, guiding the management of this chronic condition.

This week we saw a patient of the spikey variety.
This little hedgehog was found by some local residents, and wasn’t looking too well. He received some treatment from our team and you can see him here enjoying some food to get his energy back!
Hedgehog numbers are unfortunately on the decline and they are pretty special. We know that many of our clients enjoy caring for their garden visitors and have special hog holes to help them travel. Further information about how we can help hedgehogs can be found here https://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/helping-hedgehog/

It's safe to say that these joyful kittens had a great time playing in our cat only consulting room.

Why do cats head bump?
Cats head bump to create a communal smell because cats recognize each other by smell before anything else.
If a cat head bumps you they consider you part of their crew!
How is this done? Cats can activate the scent glands on their head just above the eye and below their ear, which excretes pheromones that they in turn rub on you. Just like that, you’re now part of the crew!
If your cat presses their head against you instead of bumping, they may be telling you they have discomfort. Keep a close eye on this behavior and contact us if the problem persists.
