Millie and I would like to thank all the dogs and people who have worked with us over the last 12 months. It is a privilege to work with open minded people who are looking to enhance their relationship with their dog and maybe look at how they interact with their dog differently, compassion, patience & an open mind helps us work calmly with our dogs. I wish you all a merry Christmas and a healthy new year

Another adolescent this time Spud and his owner working on some impulse control around distractions he is a great character and adolescence can be a struggle at times But with some consistency and understanding from the human end of the lead we can help our dogs navigate their way to adulthood

Adolescent GSP Balin working nicely with his owner on a 5 meter line he is a lovely dog a little over exuberant at times and can have some big reactions around other dogs which we are working on just love watching him move so elegant

The beautiful Meg is 3 years old and has had an awful start to her life thankfully she is now with a wonderful couple who have always had collies and are committed to rebuilding her trust and confidence in people.
She is understandably very timid and hesitant and is almost to afraid to try anything, we worked on some confidence building exercises and talked about giving her as much choice and agency around exploring the environment

Short update we have added two rugs on the floor for Rupert to stop on to give him a little more comfort to sit when his owner stops we had about at least a 50% increase in sits during the exercise compared to last week a small change to the environment to help the dog be successful isn’t mollycoddling him it’s helping him be more successful and with patience and understanding we will reduce the need for the rugs

07/04/2024

Today we lowered our criteria we are ultimately looking for a sit from Rupert when we stop in doors he is spot on with it but when we took it outside he was struggling with other distractions so we are looking for stillness and eye contact in stead of the sit and low and behold we actually got 2 sits out of the 8 repetitions we did still a way to go to get Rupert and his owner where they want to be but a nice illustration of by sometimes asking for a little less from our dogs can give them the time and space to actually give us more

Eight month old Balin 1st time working on the engage disengage exercise we adjust our distance in order for him to be able to successfully listen to the marker YES and then at the end disengage from the distraction (person at the bus stop) a nice example of utilising everyday scenarios as learning experiences for both dog and owner

02/03/2024

Rupert working on eye contact we are looking for a little more engagement from him when we are outdoors

Young Spud working on keeping the lead loose outdoors with slightly more distractions

Reinforce the behaviours you like a short extract from me preparing my tuna training treats took me about 5 minutes Millie quietly in a down gets intermittently rewarded for this behaviour initially I fed her for a sit now it’s for a down I haven’t asked her for either of these behaviours just rewarded her. When she offered them and changed my criteria for the reward from sit to down over a period of time at any point Millie is free to get up out of the down and either leave the kitchen or move around it, I feel this is a nice simple example of utilising everyday interactions with our dogs as as a chance to train and offer our dogs some nice feedback for preferred behaviours

1st visit to see Balin working on slowing everything down around the lead and increasing the rate of reinforcement a great first session from everyone

Young Spud and his owner working on loose lead walking a nice session from both, just a couple of things for them to work on before our next session
