Good luck both 🇪🇸 and 🏴 tonight in the Euros ☺️
This is the tick after it was removed. Horrible little things 😫🤮
Always handy to have a tick remover incase you come across these little critters on your pooches 🐶 as you can see, it came out whole and still alive and Poppy 🐶 was none the wiser ❤️
TICKS 😫
Found the first tick of the year today. It’s very important to remove the whole tick whole and alive and not be tempted to pull the body straight out with tweezers and risk breaking the body off and leaving the head still buried in. I didn’t have a tick remover in the van but I used forceps to latch onto the body slightly and just turned it in a full circle until it popped off.
Will post a video of the tick alive after being removed 🐶
This is an example of a matted coat where the blade is not moving.. it’s just getting stuck when hitting small matts, and you can see the dogs skin moving and pulling with the blade.
Basically the front part of the blade is a comb and the bit that does the cutting sits behind that.. so if the front part of the blade isn’t moving through the coat ( because the matts wont go through the teeth) then it’s not going to cut the coat. It’s only going to pull and pull and be very painful for the dog.
So if your groomer suggests that the coat needs to be cut shorter on your cockapoos, this is probably the reason why 😀 (using a shorter blade has less surface area and cuts underneath the matts rather than a bigger blade trying to force through the matts ) 🐶
🐾 following on from yesterdays post, a coat that isn’t matted will allow your groomer to use larger clipper blades to keep your dog floofier 🐶
🐾 do you brush your dog or comb your dog? 🐶 Brushing daily is very important, but also run a comb through after brushing (get that comb down to the skin) to get unwanted knots and dead fur out after brushing. 🪮 🐶
Thank you all so much. If you’d like to donate, please do at out fundraising page. ❤️
Following on from my post yesterday about brushing techniques, always finish it with a comb over the whole dog making sure the prongs of the comb get down the the skin, holding the comb at this angle and pulling through the coat. If you can do this, then your groomer can get their comb attachments on their clippers through the coat and groom the dog the way you like it done. If the coat has gone too far (matted wise) unfortunately the coat may require a full shave off, which is something we hate doing, but is the best thing for the dog. Rather than putting the dog through pain trying to dematt them (something we refuse to do) 😀
A simple brushing technique if you’ve got Cockerpoos, Cavapoos, bischons etc. Using a slicker brush, start at the bottom and go up the leg in small layers at a time. If you start at the top and brush all the way down the leg in one motion, then you’re only brushing the top layer of fur and the bristles aren’t getting down to the skin. Because of this, matting will start underneath, and in the end will get too bad and go too far.. sometimes requiring a full shave off.
Also, always finish off with a comb through the coat, getting the prongs down to the skin and pulling through 😊
