Blackpool Nine Lives Cat Rescue We are a small rescue based in Blackpool, Lancashire. We don't receive any funding from shops, or aid from a charity number – as we have neither.
(12)

Blackpool Nine Lives Cat Rescue is solely run by unpaid volunteers, who dedicate their own time to caring for the cats of the Fylde Coast. Blackpool Nine Lives Cat Rescue was founded in 2001 by Linda Cameron Davies in the memory of her late mother (Alice Cameron), Alice also had a love for cats and was also involved in animal rescue. Before Linda founded Blackpool Nine Lives Cat Rescue, she also w

as involved in many other animal rescues for over twenty-five years and has also helped many other rescues within the area. All the cats within our care are placed within foster homes, who either use a spare room or have a shed converted in their gardens into a cat unit (with an outdoor run). We can't thank our foster carers enough for dedicating their time in looking after their foster cats, even those cats who need extra special help. All members of our team are unpaid, this means all the donations raised go straight towards caring for the cats within our care, either towards vet costs, or towards food and litter. This is why we are ever so grateful for donations made towards our cats, no matter how big or small. We only have a limited number of foster carers, so like most other rescues we are limited on the number of cats we can have within our care. Although we always try to help each case we have enquiries for. We always offer those who aren't as urgent help in rehoming their cats, so their cats can find a safe new home. 😻 Sweet senior kitizen Sasha was recently rehomed from a rescue and shortly after was diagnosed with a heart murmur and hyperthyroidism. Her new mummy administers her medication twice daily which in turn has helped Sasha's coat return to normal and she's thankfully putting on weight. Her tummy was matted so all was clipped off underneath for a fresh start along with a de shed groom to remove shedded fur which can cause further matting. Claws clipped too. Sasha is more mobile and a happy kitty. 🥰

***FOUND - LYTHAM ROAD FY4***

***FURTHER UPDATE***

We have been contacted by the missing cats owner this morning and we can confirm that this cat is the missing boy Twitch. Twitch will be reunited soon as agreed with the owner.

We have advised the owner to update the microchip details asap as had the details been up to date then the cat would of gone straight back home. Our aim as a rescue is to reunite the cats as soon as possible.

***UPDATE*** We have been made aware of a missing cat via messages and in the comments to this post. We are awaiting the missing cats owner to make contact to confirm and then to hopefully reunited the cat back with the rightful owner asap. Thank you.

We was approached this morning by the finder of this cat.The finder and other members of the public where concerned for the cats safety and welfare as the cat was going into the busy main road.

The cat followed the finder home from the location and went into her house.

We attended and scanned the cat for a microchip, however, on contacting the microchip company on location the chip company attempted to make contact with the owner via telephone, both numbers where deadlining. The cat also has a collar which contains a contact number. A call was made to this number and a voicemail was left asking that they contact us regarding his cat.

In the meantime as the finder and ourselves being concerned about the cats safety / welfare and no up to date details on the microchip we agreed to bring the cat into us whilst we investigate further as it appears that the cat looks like it has a flea allergy due to the cat constantly scratching itself and having scabs.

We have investigated further with the microchip company whilst the cat has been in our care as we have yet to receive a reply to the voicemail left at lunch time and we have obtained further details. However, the details held on the database is not from the FY4 area.

Given that all details held on the microchip are out of date we now take to social media to try and reunite this cat with the owner.

In the meantime the cat has been flead to at least aid in helping the cat in feeling more comfortable. If the owner doesn't come forward within the next 7 days then the cat will automatically be surrendered over into our care where further treatment for the cat will go ahead. This treatment is looking to likely be additional treatment for the flea allergy and blood tests as the cat appears to hungry and thirsty.

If this is your cat then please send us a direct message here on Facebook where we will require proof of ownership to make sure that the cat is reunited with it's rightful owner.

This afternoon we have said goodbye to our lovely Darwin.

It's with a heavy heart that I write this and putting it into words is difficult.

We all know Darwin wasn't 100% right, given when he had his ultrasound back on the 14 July 2022 he was only given 4 weeks to live at most. Despite everything against him since arriving to us on the 25th June 2022, he battled everything he had and was given the love he finally deserved.

We don't really know the background of Darwin, however he had clearly been out for some time – left to roam the streets unneutered. When Darwin arrived it was estimated that he was 17 year old. He had multiple old fractures to; two of his spinal discs, to his ribs, and his front shoulders. He was diagnosed with multiple health conditions when he arrived, as well as the ultrasound showing some abnormalities to some of his organs yet bloods showed nothing concerning regarding this.

Darwin was diabetic, had Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), and arthritis due to the fractures. Due to his diabetics and his DCM he couldn't undergo any operations for castrations or any future ones he may need due to the recovery process and his blood thinners. So we always knew that we was just making Darwin comfortable, happy, and stabilizing his medical conditions. His diabetes went into remission however this came back not too long ago, and we managed to get this stable again and we had glucose sensors applied to monitor him.

Over the past few days Darwin had started to go down hill, he was at our vets on Thursday and we was given the news we didn't want to hear. We knew Darwin was in pain and that cancer was likely spreading throughout his body. So our vet agreed for us keeping him comfortable and let him eat whatever he wants and we get to spend more time with him before we put him to sleep.

This afternoon we let Darwin cross over the rainbow bridge peacefully, surrounded by myself, Cath and his other foster dad.

Darwin was always such a character, he was strong, cheeky, and loving. Due to Darwins special diet at night he was placed into his own room so he can eat his food without any bother from the other cats here, he would always find a way out! My own cat Mercer would help him. Them two were a troublesome couple.

Already the house feels emptier. You would be greatly missed my little Darwinio, not just by us but by all the cats who loved you too.

Sleep tight my boy, may you run free with your old pal Robin.

Rest in Peace

Zoe

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all of our supporters who have donated via our gofundme, bank transfer, Amazon wish list and food and litter donation drop offs. All food donations have gone down well with the cats 😻

It's not offen that we get litter donated. However, yesterday we had a very generous donation of litter dropped off from an amazing guy, Matthew 🥰 We know that Matthew isn't on Facebook but he can see our posts as he had seen our appeal for help here on Facebook where he felt the need to help 😊 Matthew has gone one step further... Matthew has offered to be on standby for any collections or drop offs that we may need which is amazing 🤩 Thank you so much Matthew we really appreciate your help and support. It was a pleasure to meet you yesterday.

Thank you to each and everyone of you for your kindness and support. Your generosity means the world to our rescue 😻😽

We are struggling, that is something I don't want to admit or have to say. Everything at the moment is difficult, it feels like a losing battle.

As things stand currently we are unable to help any more cats all our foster carers are full and our funding is low.

Thankfully our vet bill isn't too high only at £750+, however we don't even have the money in the bank to cover any of this. Our bank balance stand at £177.09 On top of this we also in constant need of cat food and litter - which we are urgently running low on.

Currently we have 43 cats in our care, ranging from permanent resident, under assessment, and adoption. We are also waiting for an emergency case of 3 cats waiting to come into our care.

Our main funding events have ceased, so we are working out a way we can raise more funds, but in the meantime we are struggling and if this furthers we aren't even sure if we will be able to keep running.

Permanent resident Darwin who's diabetes was in remission, has had his diabetes return, so he is now back on insulin. Due to Darwin not being keen on his multiple daily blood tests we will need to look at a diabetic sensor, these roughly cost £96 every 4 weeks. Not including the products to apply and remove these sensors.

If anyone can help it would be hugely appreciated, even £1 helps or one box/bag of food or litter.

***URGENT***

We're currently in need of foster homes from 3 cats that are scheduled to come into our care this week from the same house hold.

It's uncertain at the moment as to if the cats will be going back to their owner at a later date, become permanent residents (depending on if there are any underlining medical conditions) or be available for adoption but what we do know is that they need foster placements.

As the cats where originally our rescue cats we always provide back up for those who have previously been adopted from us. This is and always will be our policy.

Due to the high demand for placements all our current foster carers are full and at their limit for the number of cats in their care. To overload our current foster carers wouldn't be fair on either foster carer or the cats.

As we put this urgent appeal post together our foster carers are currently caring for our cats at the rate of between 1 to 17 cats at any one time in their care, this does not include their own cats. So when we say that we are full we literally are 😢

If you would like to offer a foster home to the 3 cats then please contact us via messenger here on Facebook our via email at [email protected]

Our hearts are broken 💔...

We knew that we would be writing this post at some point in the future but we hoped that it wouldn't be so soon.

Little Iris came into our care on the 8th January. That's a little over a week since she arrived into our care and we have received a number of enquiries from owners seeking confirmation as to if it's their missing cat which unfortunately turned out not to be any of the missing cats.

During one enquiry that we received we was made aware of previous posts that related to Iris being found and looking underweight. This then led us to reports that Iris had been on the street for at least 13-14months.

One day Iris got lucky and she was scooped up and taken to a vets to scan for a microchip. Although Iris was microchipped her chip wasn't registered. This is where we stepped in to agree to being Iris into our care.

One arriving into our care little Iris was clearly now well so we called our vets straight away who agreed to see her as an emergency.

Iris was dehydrated, lethargic, weighing 2.4kg, running a high temperature, and her left leg and paw was swollen with a wound on her pad. It was also detected that she had high grade heart murmur. Iris received blood tests, fluids, an antibiotic injection and pain relief by our vets and discharged where she was given fluids at home and returned back to our vets two days later for a check up and to be given any further medication that she may of needed. During this visit the vets where happy with her progress as she was more alert, her temperature was within normal range and she had gained weight (2.9kg).

Due to Iris's age which we believe she was 15+ year old and given her high grade heart murmur we know that Iris would become a permanent foster cat which our vet also confirmed.

Iris had continued to enjoy her life in her foster home where she would sleep on her humans bed, demand her humans food (so she of course had chicken instead) .

Suddenly this morning Iris became withdrawal, her appetite had reduced, her temperature had dropped and she had suddenly developed diarrhoea. With ourselves and our vets being concerned to swept Iris off to our vets.

We agreed that we would foster Iris for no matter how long she had left and we would give her all the love and care that she deserved and she got just that. Although we hoped that she could of had the comfort of a home, love and care for longer, even if it was for only a matter of weeks or months... She deserved it.

Little Iris crossed over the rainbow bridge knowing that she was loved and cared for even though it was only for a few days.

Although we fostered Iris as a family her main care giver was Zoe who monitored Iris around the clock, feeding her multiple meals a day (I was her chicken lady) and Iris always stole Zoe's bed.

We will miss your beautiful little meows that you gave to us, you was such a sweet little girl who will be forever missed.

Rest in peace now beautiful until we meet again 🌈😭😿

A HUGE THANK YOU...

Goes out to Vicki for the wonderful donation of Sheba food for little Iris, she loves it 😻

As you can see Iris enjoys sleeping on a nice comfy human bed. With warmth of the indoors, full belly, water, litter trays and lots of love... Oh and the odd bits of chicken what more could she ask for 😻

Thank you Aunty Vicki 😽

Looking for his new home.

Sabre arrived into our care in September due to him being abandoned.

Sabre is a handsome loving boy, who loves attentions and cuddles. All he wants is a bit of attention and love. Sabre seems to get on well with other cats, so if introduced properly he'll settle in great to a multi cat home.

We don't know if Sabre suitable with dogs, so Sabre is looking for a home without any young children or dogs.

Sabre as had his 1st vaccination, so will be ready to leave once he has had his 2nd vaccination. But he sure would love to meet his new family in the meantime!

FOUND CAT

Found around Vets4Pets Warbreck, microchipped but not registered. Contacted the microchipping database, and where the microchip was sold to isn't in business anymore so couldn't give me their details.

We are calling this girl Iris. Iris isn't very well at all, and was taken to our vets this evening/afternoon as an emergency as we knew as soon as we got her she wasn't well.

She has a bad infection going on, so has been given an antibiotic injection, has a bad temperature, and is very underweight. She has been given some medications to try an lower her temp, and as she is badly dehydrated she has been given some fluid. Bloods haven't shown too much but our main concern is getting her to pull through and more stable.

She is back home with me, being monitored closely. Iris will be having regular fluid being twice a day. She is back at the vets on Wednesday, unless we have any other concerns.

Kiki and Coco are looking for their new homes.

Both girls are lovely and beautiful. They have come along way since being in foster and have grown so much. They can still be nervous but are so much more confident and love having a fuss.

Both girls are looking for separate homes, they are looking for a quiet home with no children. They aren't dog tests but would be fine with other cats.

Kiki and Coco are both spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and both have a clean bill of health.

Please contact us if you would like to offer Kiki or Coco their new homes.

You can also find some videos of both Kiki and Coco on our group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/blackpoolninelivescatrescue
