🥰 Lovely review
"Patricia is brilliant, she is a real life dog whisperer. Patricia has an amazing understanding of dog psychology and has really helped us to view the world through our puppy’s eyes and understand her behavior. After a few sessions with Patricia we have seen vast improvements in recall, walking to heel and general good manners.
Patricia is friendly, non-judgmental and provided great practical advice enabling us to communicate more effectively with our puppy and help her develop into a well behaved adult dog. We would strongly encourage all dog owners to use Patricia’s consultation services."

5 month puppy session today, working on building confidence, slowing things down and understanding the dogs needs.
Feedback from the client "my heart is singing".💞
Can you guess the breed?
When working with behaviour cases, I always look at the whole. Diet, lifestyle, exercise, stimulus and so on.
As this graphic shows, the brain needs supporting to help promote a happy brain. It's for humans but it is the same for dogs.
Lol!!
Recycling used marrow bones. Love it.
Look at those ears blowing in the wind, I mean 🥰
"Wass this?"
🤓 Your dog is smarter than you think!
How many of you say "what's this?", when you want to get your dog to come to you? Be honest. We've all done it. But you know what, they know what this means. They know "what's this?" means something is up, you are going to put me on my lead, or try and clip my nails, or stop me having fun, or try and take this thing away from me!
Stop saying "what's this?" and try using reverse psychology instead. Instead of trying to coax your dog to you, go off and do something interesting, scratch around in the grass, play with a toy, poke about in the corner, whatever, your dog will be nosey and want to investigate what you are doing, and because you are not trying to get its attention (less is more), it won't be so suspicious of you.
Try it, it really works.
The amount of times I see people say "what's this?" and it wears off after a few uses!🤣🤣
Think smart, you know I'm right! Be More Dog!

Can anyone guess the breed of the ginger dog?
If you are muzzle training, using treats is essential, but loose treats tend to drop on the floor and become a bit of a nuisance. The dog tries to eat it, gets frustrated, paws at the muzzle.
A squeezy tube of pate or cheese is a good alternative, as you can poke it through the gap and let the dog lick and actually get some food much easier.

I have been helping Hugo transition through puppyhood into adolescence. He is doing really well, because we are setting him up to succeed.
Owners are happy "thank you for your help so far, still lots to learn but these steps are really nice :) He is definitely in the teenager phase, but we are being consistent and it appears to be working!"
Consistency is key, stability and security also really important.

What are you most proud of about your dog?🤔
It can be anything. Something you've conquered or achieved or get lots of compliments for, whatever.
I'll go first.
I'm most proud of walking my once aggressive Doberman past a fox, 6 feet away, with a perfect loose lead heel. 😈🦊🐕
It's HACKLES, not HECKLES!!
Heckle is when people shout abuse.
Lesson over.
Dog food analysis.
A well known, well respected, highly educated and long standing dog professional recommends Skinners Field and Trial dog food (I won't name names). This person says it's a good all round brand without having to break the bank.
Here's my opinion:- It's rubbish.🤓
Why? Look at the ingredients. The meat content is not proper meat, it's MEAT MEAL. As I keep banging on about this is poor quality rubbish and heavily processed and this type of food is banned in human food, for a reason, it's really bad for you. 😱
Interestingly, on Skinners own website they are a bit vague about their own ingredients. The product I looked at they don't show a full composition and have left a lot of the %s blank (see screenshot). So I had to go to Pets At Home to get the proper composition, and as you can see the main ingredient is rice, this is a grain, not digestible to dogs and a cheap, bulking agent. Then the 'meat'content is poultry MEAL and some chicken, so not even 30% actual meat. For our carnivore dogs this is not adequate.
Diet is really important, and there are many other brands of food out there that don't cost a fortune that actually contain proper meat and not processed rubbish.

One of the biggest myths in dog training🧐
A tail wagging means the dog is happy.
Well, maybe but not necessarily.
The wag can mean happiness but it can also be related to stress, anxiety, aggression, arousal, excitement, nervousness.
We need to look at the whole dog and the context to figure it out.
In this video Buddy is happy. He is eating ☺ and he can hear my voice 🥰. He can't really wag full movement due to pain, but I know this is his happy wag.
So your lesson for today is don't assume because the tail is wagging that the dog is happy!!
My favourite breed is the Doberman.
Since Buddy died I've felt like I'm never going to own another one again because the pain is too much, they are almost too incredible.
I don't see many out and about where I live but I've seen a few lately and I feel so emotional, so blown away by their beauty and stature, but also conflicted in that I don't know if I can embark on another Doberman journey again, knowing how much they suffer with health problems and how short their lives can be.
I don't know, maybe one day, but not for the foreseeable.
When you love something so much it hurts, that's the only way I can describe it.
This is a sketch on marble of Buddy, giving me that look that he only ever gave to me, and no one else🖤

Here's some lovely feedback from one of my course attendees.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the 6 week class and feel it built on our previous one on one training.
We have been carrying on everyday on our walks. The lead is being dropped most of the time in places Woody knows and his recall is pretty good. He is meeting a few dogs when he wants too and you’re right he does give an occasional bark but on the whole he is happy to greet them and then we’re on our way".
Classes will start again in the Autumn when it is not so hot, but I will be announcing some more social group sessions soon. Watch this space.
I had some lovely feedback today from Bella's family. Bella is a rehomed French Bulldog
There have been real improvements around her prey drive, and how this affected day to day living for the whole family, the dog pack are getting on better now and they can all be left unsupervised, and Bella is able to be recalled away from the pet hamster. These are just some of the positive improvements.
"Big thank you for all your help and giving us the confidence to manager her bevaviour. You do a great job and improve the quality of dogs and people's lives❤"
How lovely.

Chaos going down the stairs.
OK I know this isn't the best video in the world, and techniques need tweaking, but my god what an improvement for these 2 dogs. Previously, going down the stairs was a dangerous nightmare. The dogs were both barking and screaming, one was biting the lead, they were both jumping up, not listening and it was a mad panic rush to get downstairs and out the front door as quickly as possible so as not to upset the neighbours too much. In fact the mayhem started indoors the second the leads were picked up.
I had wanted to use food, but, one of the dogs resource guards food, and there have been fights, so that wasn't an option. And the owner needs 2 hands free to handle 2 dogs at once. That's the situation.
I needed to find a resolution that was safe, and didn't involve getting tangled up like spaghetti junction, and didn't involve the owner falling down the stairs and cracking his head open. So no food, lead work only.
Room for improvement I know, but maybe I am being too critical of my work, this is MUCH better and on repetition it just got better. Lots of eye contact, check ins, no barking and patience and no tangling of leads and mayhem!
We also worked on general barking in the home as the dogs have learned to get what they want ASAP by barking, so we addressed this too.

Do dogs do 'dirty protests', like IRA prisoners, to send us a message and complain about something?
Sorry if this upsets anyone, but really, this is what many breeds were bred to do.
This is exactly what my dad did 70-80 years ago, in Northern Ireland, with his dog and his ferret, and then he would take the rabbits to the butcher who paid him a few bob for each rabbit. They were very poor.
The reality is that a lot of our breeds wouldnt exist, if they were no good at killing.
Dogs were primarily for survival of the human, and not pets like they are now. In fact the collies that my grandad owned were treated better than the children. The dogs were allowed to sleep in front of the fire, the children were not. My dad was a hard man.
I suspect these rabbits will be used for food.
I have no problem with this myself, I feed my dogs raw, it has to come from somewhere. I prefer to see dogs being dogs than being modern day fur babies.
I will probably lose a lot of followers for this, oh well.
I imagine these dogs and ferrets are very happy, and very well looked after. They work really well as a team.

If you have a pedigree, then your dog was bred to do something specific. If you have a cross breed then the mixed breeds will have been bred for something specific. Do you know what your dog was bred to do? I would love to see a photo or video of your dog, doing what it was bred to do. After all, it wouldn't be here if it wasn't bred for it!! Here's the best video I can find, of my first doberman protecting my nephews, scanning the area, walking in front, catching up with the one that runs off. #doberman
Dogs and cats 🐈 Here is a little progress video of my clients working on introducing the dog to the cat. As I say to all new enquiries on this subject, it's really a gamble as to how successful we will be, as it depends on the animal's temperament and personalities. Sometimes we can integrate quickly, other times it takes longer. This time it's taking longer, because the dog was really highly aroused around the cat, so we had to step back, work on some relevant training areas, and start from a distance, going slowly. From where we were on the first session this is good progress. Pusscat isn't running running but she's keeping a distance. I read the cat as much as I read the dog, although I'm no cat expert that's for sure, but not running away is a good sign. It will take weeks, but I'm quietly confident the two will integrate ok. My advice is to integrate as soon as possible and not leave it because this makes it worse. Get in touch if you need to talk about anything dog related 07958 799068. #catsanddogs

**Letting puppy cry it out" Crate training for puppy. It is not uncommon to hear the advice of letting the puppy cry it out in the crate to get them used to it. While this can work for some dogs, it can actually be very damaging to others, so it is very risky trying this method. As you can see in this clip, the puppy is very distressed. Note this is not my client! Puppy is chewing the crate and is at risk of harm, physically and emotionally. It really is a gamble taking this approach, and so I do not recommend it. If you have a puppy and you want to crate train, (and I do advocate the use of crates, one great reason is for when the dog needs to be crated at the vets), I recommend getting the puppy used to the crate in the day with the sides open and walking in and out for treats and play etc, then at night, spend 7 - 10 days sleeping downstairs with the puppy, next to the crate to help get it used to it. Wait for puppy to fall asleep then put it inside and take a few days before you actually close the doors completely. Gently does it. If puppy whimpers then don't engage, just do deep breathing and sleepy snoring sounds to help settle puppy. Leaving the puppy completely alone can be very traumatising and ultimately lead to separation issues and fear of the crate. If you need some help with your puppy at night time then get in touch [email protected] or 07958 799068 #puppy #cratetraining
Lol! Just mucking about being silly with my sister and her dog, but I thought I would share this for a laugh. It's an impression of a guy seen local to her who winds the dogs up and has them jumping all over him. The ego is real! The only dog whisperers are other dogs!!!
Another raw convert💪 Vinnie is loving his move to raw, all is going well, no issues so far, we have introduced slowly and carefully just to be safe and avoid any initial upset tummies. More proteins will be added over time, then he will be 100% raw. His mum has already noticed a reduction in head shaking and scratching. Simple things in life for me, knowing this dog will have a healthier microbiome is like Christmas for me. Get in touch if you are considering raw bit are unsure what to do. 07958 799068
Buddy my beautiful Doberman was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in 2019. Caring for him for 5 years taught me so much so I will be sharing this with you. We will look at -Causes & prevention -Recognising -Treatment -Management -Products This is useful for all dogs, even young ones that don't have arthritis. FREE event, feel free to share.
Each week for the enrichment and calming part of the reactivity group, I offer essential oils to the dogs for self selection. The dogs have the choice to select certain oils to self medicate for physical and emotional healing. Really interestingly, the little grey dog selected the anxiety mix weeks 1 to 4, but in week 5 he didn't want it. I see this as a shift in this dog's feelings in that moment which I'm taking as progress. Dogs know what they need, which is why I'm against plug ins, because they force scents onto the dog and into its system, when they may otherwise not choose it. If you are interestedin the classes then get in touch. 07958 799068. [email protected]
