Two further cases of Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 have been confirmed. At premises as follows:

• near Bromborough, Wirral, Merseyside - although this infected premises is in England, part of the SZ extends into Flintshire, Wales.
• near Bodmin, North Cornwall, Cornwall.
3km Protection Zones and 10km Surveillance Zones have been put in place around each premises.

In addition, an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) with mandatory biosecurity measures is in force across Great Britain and a regional Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) with mandatory housing and biosecurity measures is also in force and covers the following:

• North Yorkshire
• York
• An area in Shropshire
• The East Riding of Yorkshire
• The City of Kingston upon Hull
• Lincolnshire
• Norfolk
• Suffolk.

All bird keepers in these areas must keep their birds housed to protect them from bird flu. This applies to pet birds, commercial flocks and just a few birds in a backyard flock.

All bird keepers should remain vigilant and follow the housing and stringent biosecurity measures in addition to following any Protection/Surveillance Zone restrictions in their area to prevent future outbreaks.

Please check the disease control zones on our avian influenza interactive map: https://defra.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=8cb1883eda5547c6b91b5d5e6aeba90d to see what restrictions are in place and the biosecurity guidance available at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/bird-flu-avian-influenza-how-to-prevent-it-and-stop-it-spreading.

Please also check GOV.UK: https://www.gov.uk/bird-flu and GOV.WALES: https://www.gov.wales/avian-influenza-bird-flu for the latest information.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW FOR OUR AVIAN KEEPERS / OWNERS

Welsh Goverment have announced that, there will be an All-Wales Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) under Article 6 of the Avian Influenza and Influenza of Avian Origin in Mammals (Wales) (No. 2) Order 2006. This precautionary measure is in line with the national AIPZs introduced in England and Scotland on 25 January 2025.

This AIPZ will apply from 00:01 on Thursday 30 January and remain in place until a reduction in risk levels indicates it is no longer required. The requirements within the AIPZ and other measures to reduce the risk of avian influenza transmission will be kept under ongoing review.

Did you know that it is estimated that 65% of dogs and 50% of cats are classified as obese in the uk.

As a practice we strive to keep our patients fit and healthy and weight management plays a massive part.

Overweight and obese patients are at higher risk of diabetes, arthritis, breathing difficulties, heart problems and urinary disease.

We can offer a tailored weight loss program with one of our nurses, where we can discuss feeding options, help make a weight loss plan and targets. We also welcome patients to be brought into the clinic for free monthly weigh ins. Please ring the surgery if you feel your pet would benefit on 01352720203
