🚫 The A31 remains closed while firefighters continue to tackle the blaze.
We understand this is causing disruption. If your journey takes you through the New Forest as a result, please be aware that you may encounter free-roaming ponies, donkeys and cattle on or alongside the road. Animals can appear at any time – they are also likely to be gathered in shady spots such as under bridges and trees.
With more traffic expected on Forest roads, please:
🐴 Stay extra vigilant and be prepared for animals to enter the road unexpectedly.
🚗 Drive at 40mph or below, according to the speed limit and road signage.
↔️ Pass wide and slow when approaching livestock.
⏰ Allow extra time for your journey and expect delays.
🚛 Be aware that some smaller country roads may not be suitable for large vehicles and could become congested or cause difficulties for larger vehicles.
The New Forest is a special protected landscape, and we ask everyone travelling through it to take extra care and treat the Forest and its wildlife with respect.
⚠️ Sadly, accidents involving livestock can happen. If you are involved in an accident with livestock, you have a legal responsibility to report it to the police immediately, even if the animal has run away, as it may still be injured and in need of help.
