Congratulations to our new level 1 and level 2 graduates of our relax don't react groups today!
These groups we run as a collective with Natalie Quality Canines and all the dogs in these groups are reactive with other dogs and some of them people aswell.
You can see from the pictures how beneficial these courses are for them and how they have really helped these individuals progress.

The affects of fireworks can continue up to a few weeks post events stopping. Here is some advice I wrote a few years ago that is still very relevant and shared to date. The calm after the storm graphic may help those post events know what to expect and how they can help their dogs post bombfire night.

New reliability Graduates for our adolescent and adult class!
This group have worked really hard around distracting situations and their care givers have also been working really hard on their handling skills, communication and timings to their dogs so that they are better equipped at guiding their dogs around distractions and learning and also getting the best results out of them.

Is your dog worried/ scared/ reactive around fireworks?
Even though training for firework season needs to usually start much earlier in the year usually before summer.
However It is never to late to start doing something now!
I've also written a great article in detail about what you can do to help your dog during this time for the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors, which you can download yourself and read right herehttps://www.apbc.org.uk/.../Fireworks-Series-Behaviour.pdf
For now if your dog needs extra help with fireworks have a look through the information and start making actions to prepare now if you can.🙂

Always worth being vigilant about. We see a lot of behaviour cases where pain or discomfort/ irritation show exacerbated behavioural presentations. This is why we see people on vet referral as many times the behaviour presentations could have underlying health discomforts that are driving some behaviour or the intensity of the behaviour. A vet check is always important if you feel your dogs behaviour has changed or if you feel you dogs behaviour has intensified.

I have recently swapped Milo over to pure pet food and I have to say he is doing amazing on it! Milo can be funny with texture and fussy but he loves this and I've not seen him so excited for meal times. He also suffers with dry itchy skin and in a couple of weeks his itching reduced and his skin smooth and coat is even more shiny.

If you want to give it a try here's a link

Real life stories🐶

Even though we are professionals in clinical animals behaviour and work with countless clients each week. We are also dog owners ourselves and face the same challenging training hurdles and milestones that all dog owners do and to say that we in the industry have also often have been known to be the ones to rehome and foster those challenging cases ourselves at times.

Even so this means whether we as dog owners welcome a puppy or rehome a dog I to our worlds or even with our existing furry residents, changes happen that we cannot control, foresee or even those we can plan changes sneak in to our lives. Regardless, when those changes do happen our dogs behaviours can alter and vary depending on that change. This means what we advise and council you to do as professionals helping you, we too also have to at times implement ourselves on our own dogs. So we know what it feels like doing these tasks that the we ask clients to do and we get to feel what our clients feel and this makes us even more empathetic and safe and understanding of your situations.

I have myself recently just moved house and had to habituate my pets into knowing the new home is home. This understandably resulted in changes in my dog and cats behaviours as we made this transition. Not only that my pets have gone through two huge changes this year.....loosing drake who they all were deeply bonded with and all suffered grief from his loss and now a house move!

We worked through and I supported their grief of loosing drake and withing 3 weeks my animals were back to themselves.

Now I spring I move of home on them 🙈
The changes we saw:
Drax (cat) more cross and vocal that he couldn't go outside for 2weeks and so we managed his frustration with calming supplements and good food and lots of scratching areas and hiding places. He's settled now. Luckily the house is bigger so lots of exploring in home for him that he was happy with so the more i gave him access to house areas the better he was.

Lulu (cat) was quiet and hid upstairs for a lot of the 2 weeks so she needed the opposite of Drax. She needed security less space and every few days given a little more house to explore in her time. She settled really quickly.

Milo (dog): Is usually quiet as a mouse when left and can handle a decent time he just sleeps however in the new home he struggled to start with being left and was howling and barking one reporting to be almost 40mins to 1hrs long vocalising 🙈. So naturally I immediately sprung into action! Set my my camera and we worked on everything from stationing and settling , moving to out of sight and independent stationing and settling away from me and behind closed doors while i was still in, getting used to responding to my voice from behind closed doors preparing for if I needed to talk to him through my camera so he didnt freak out and instead i could calm him if he did get upset and i could be confident that hed listen to me (we did lots of this foundation training). Building his time up of being left slowly. Setting the environment up lots of things to chew and lick at available. Small walks before being left to help him relax. I even wrote letters to my neighbours explaining and letting them know the plan and to bare with us in this first few weeks.
I did provide calming supplements for the first week. We had people coming in and doggy sitting with him and walking him for me in the first 2 weeks to reduce his time left. In two weeks he is doing so well and no more vocalising I have some video clips of his progress.

The first is a image to show time.
I will add the videos in this post comments to see the time stamps (they have posted with the end first). Yes the volume and mic is up maximum and that silence is true silence (it is very hot for him at the mo so big fluffy beds taken down and vet bed left as he likes to lay on the cool floor a lot in preferance)
He's doing very well as you can see! 😊😁✨️🐶 I am very proud of his progress in such a short time!

Remember you are not alone and we know how you feel and we are here to help you as a collective.🙏✨️

💛🐶Graduates for our older group💛🐶

Many apologies for my delay uploading everything I've been very unwell and didn't get around to uploading everything.
Congratulations to our improving reliability group who did amazingly at working hard over 9weeks improving and proofing their skills around a variety of distracting situations we practiced within. Those going through adolescent teenager stages improved their skills hugely and those who just needed to practise their skill around distractions and other dogs did incredible and got amazing results! They all did so well and put in so much effort!

Congratulations to Winnie, Boris, Mila and Gilbert and of course your hard working people! Keep up the good work!
