Everyone at Vets4Pets Guildford loved seeing little Jenni who's been treated for a damaged eyelid and has had to wear a buster collar.

One-year-old Jenni – a Chihuahua/Pekingese cross – was such a good girl that she was named Patient of the Month by the practice.

Her owner, Angela, said: "The team at Vets for Pets Guildford have been marvellous. They have been so lovely and gentle with Jenni, who's been going in weekly for checks and to make sure there's no infection. Jenni took to wearing the buster collar in her stride and she's absolutely fine now."

Jenni was accidentally caught in the eye during playtime with Burnese Mountain Dog Mary who belongs to Angela's sister Sam.

Her owner Catherine says Morag "will do anything for chicken" and that the mat, which is designed to encourage natural foraging behaviours by concealing treats, offers "great enrichment and helps me to settle!" Morag posts on Instagram as .

Two-year-old mini lop rabbit Newt is "bouncing around again" after having surgery to remove part of his liver at Companion Care Vets Winnersh.

His owner Abi, who's a vet at the practice, noticed he was poorly when he was off his food. Blood tests showed his liver enzymes were raised and an ultrasound revealed he had a damaged liver lobe after it had twisted on itself, a condition known as liver lobe torsion.

Abi and fellow vet Ben took about an hour to perform the delicate procedure on Newt. Abi, who has six rabbits, said: "Newt's doing pretty well now and bouncing around again."

Four-year-old Sebastian the Jack Russell is back to his usual boisterous self after being treated at Vets4Pets Abingdon for a condition that was causing the knee caps on his back legs to dislocate when he walked.

The condition, known as medial patellar luxation, would cause him to hop or skip when exercising. It's quite common in terriers and small dog breeds, but Sebastian's case was quite severe and he was given surgery by orthopaedic surgeon Joe to deepen the groove his patella runs in on his right hind leg, and also to move and reattach his patellar tendon.

Sebastian is owned by practice vet Hannah who said: "After the operation he just wanted to get back to normal straight away but he couldn't ... and that's where we struggled. He wanted to be out and about, charging around and playing with his toys but he needed to rest." Hannah had to give him medication for six weeks to give his knees time to heal. She said: "He's absolutely fine now – he's fully recovered and running around like a lunatic again!"

Here’s beautiful 13-week-old Dalmatian Mabel getting a treat from inside the Kong puppy chew treat toy her owner Paisley bought from our Peterborough store.

The rubber toys are great to chew and play with – and can be filled with treats to extend play time. Paisley said: “Mabel is full of life, very cheeky and loves playing with (tormenting) her big brother Morrissey who is also a Dalmatian. She has a personality to die for and we can’t wait to see what a wonderful dog she grows into.” Mabel's Instagram account is .

When 11-year-old lurcher Jess was brought into Vets for Pets Leeds Birstall 24/7 Small Animal Hospital on Christmas Eve feeling very poorly with pyometra – a life-threatening uterus infection – the team knew they had to act fast; so vet Emily and nurses JD and Hannah headed straight in to perform emergency surgery on her in the early hours of Christmas morning.

The operation went so well that by lunchtime nurse Krishna was able to call her owner Beth to say she was well enough to come home to recuperate – and Beth made the hour-long drive from her home in Keighley so she could bring Jess home before the family sat down for their Christmas dinner. Beth said: "It was a stressful start to Christmas, as we were worried about Jess because of her age and because she's never had anything wrong with her before. We're so grateful for everything – it was so nice of them to come in on Christmas Day to operate on her, to look after her so well and to get her home on top form. The vets were fantastic from start to finish. Jess is recovering nicely – you can see the happiness is back in her!"

Krishna said: "Our night team always do an amazing job, and performing serious surgery like that at that time of night and on Christmas Day of all days is just brilliant. Jess did amazingly well to bounce back so quickly, and it was amazing being able to call her owners to say that she could come home to spend Christmas with them. It's the sort of call we all love to make, but doing it on Christmas Day was extra nice."

Six-foot-long boa constrictor Astrix was the centre of attention when he called in for a routine "top to tail" health check at Vets4Pets Penzance.

Astrix, who's four, is part of a menagerie of six snakes, bearded dragons and six dogs belonging to veterinary nurse Lowenna, who works at the practice, and her partner Mark. The team looked at Astrix's eyes and mouth and checked his breathing to rule out any respiratory infections and also checked his scales.

Lowenna said: "He got a clean bill of health, he was absolutely fine and everyone had a turn holding him. Asterix is quite reserved, a little bit shy usually. He did really well when he came in as everyone wanted to touch him and he was like 'okay I quite like the attention.' Astrix has got a lovely big set-up at home. He's quite a big boy, weighing in at nearly 10 kilos, so the vivarium is more than seven foot long. We have a reptile room and he has the run of it. He has a large bucket of water too if he ever wants to submerge himself."

This brave girl is collie-cross Sherpa, who the team at Vets for Pets Livingston say was "impeccably calm" when she was rushed in for emergency injury after hurting her eye in a freak accident.

Sherpa's owner Caroline was taking Sherpa for a walk when Sherpa caught her eye on a stick as she went exploring a bush. She was quickly admitted into surgery where she received X-rays and, after a two-hour procedure by practice owner Dr Adam, aided by nurse Erin, the stick was removed. Adam said: "Sherpa was amazingly tolerant following an extremely random occurrence. It was astonishing." Sherpa didn't lose her sight and is now making a great recovery.

Caroline said: “We were suddenly thrown into the worst living nightmare, it was absolutely horrifying. It’s truly a miracle what Adam and the team achieved from the moment they answered our call for help. They gave us hope."

Little Suzie will have plenty of pleasant distractions to keep her happy and relaxed when fireworks start going off to celebrate the New Year.

Twelve-week-old Suzie's owner Chloe works at Northampton Vets for Pets and she's got lots of tricks up her sleeve: "I'll be giving her lots of cuddles and fuss and keeping her distracted with her toys – she loves to play with feathers on a stick. I've got some plug-in diffusers too which give out calming pheromones. I'll keep the TV on, and someone also mentioned playing brown noise – a constant background noise like the sound of a flowing river – which is meant to keep animals calm too, so we might give that a go."

Suzie lives with Chloe's other cats, 14-year-old Charlie and eight-year-old twins Ozzie and Hendrix. Chloe said: "Suzie was brought into us as a stray when she was about six weeks old and I fell in love with her straight away. When no one came in to claim her I took her home to live with me. She's a little diva – a real trouble-maker! She's full of zest."

Six year-old Mia has complex disabilities which mean she often needs to go to Treliske Hospital in Cornwall – and her parents Jason and Ela always take her to our nearby Truro store just before as they'd noticed it makes her much more relaxed during the appointments.

When they visit either our Truro store or their local store in Penzance they often come out with different kinds of pet toys for Mia – they say they're fantastic for sensory issues with all the different textures and sounds they make. When the team in Penzance store heard how much Mia loves Pets at Home they organised a special visit and gave her a trolley full of goodies for her and her four beloved guinea pigs, Pixie, Dixie, Bubble and Squeak.

Jason said: "We'd like to thank everyone at Pets at Home Penzance for making Mia's day special – it really was fantastic. She loves the little trolley too and pushes it around our front room with her teddies in it. Mia loves seeing all the animals at Pets at Homes. She adores animals, especially her guinea pigs who sit on her lap and let her stroke them and play with them. She's with them every single day and she wakes up wanting to go and see them. They are the perfect pet for Mia."

We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who's helped us raise a grand total of £1,941,832 for our Pets Foundation Santa Paws appeal.

Colleagues at our stores across the country – like here in our stores in Widnes, Orpington, Dumfries, Teesside, Boston and Newport Isle of Wight – have been getting behind the appeal. Susan from the Scottish SPCA, one of the charities supported by the appeal, says the Santa Paws appeal makes a huge difference to their work.

She said: "The support we've received has helped us continue the rescue and provide vital support to pets and people. The partnership supports our work in local communities and we’re extremely grateful for the continued fundraising efforts of Pets At Home store colleagues and our volunteers. Thanks also to the Pets at Home customers who donated to the appeal and helped us reach such a fantastic total. The funds raised will ensure we can continue to be there for all animals, always."

This little Christmas cracker is Molly, who survived against the odds and gave birth to three premature puppies after being brought in to Vets for Pets Cirencester as a pregnant stray with severe injuries from a fight with other dogs.

Martina, who owns the practice, said: ”It was really touch and go and we thought Molly might not make it. The team treated mum first, got her on a drip and stabilised her before successfully managing to deliver the puppies – two boys and a girl – by caesarean section."

Molly, who's a Cairn Terrier, and her three pups are recovering well at home with Martina. “As they needed 24/7 care I took them home and emptied the whole spare bedroom so there was a nice, warm and comfortable quiet place for Molly and her puppies. I was attached to her for the first five days – my husband Matt even brought food up to the bedroom for me as I stayed there all the time. It was really hard work but it was all worth it. They’re absolute darlings and doing really well now – mum is already brave enough to go on dog walks.”

Martina says Molly will continue living with her in the future, and the puppies will be adopted when they are stronger.

Tomorrow is the last day of this year's Pets Foundation Santa Paws appeal, so we'd like to say a massive thank you to all our colleagues, customers and charity partners for their support so far.

Andrew and Jodie from our Rushden store are just two of our colleagues helping raise money for the appeal, and fundraising manager Amy from the Pets Foundation says support like theirs makes all the difference: "Every penny raised has gone towards helping causes in local communities, from feeding rescue pets, to fostering pets for those fleeing domestic abuse, to providing assistance dogs for ex-servicemen and women. Without you, our incredible supporters, none of this would be possible. For pets and the people who love them, the future looks a little brighter thanks to you. Wishing you a heartfelt Merry Christmas from our team and a happy and healthy New Year."

Anyone who'd like to support our Santa Paws appeal can donate in-store or online here: https://bit.ly/3GdFdUf

"Anyone lost a polar bear?" That's what Bob The Dog 's owner Kari posted on Facebook after the Chinese Tibetan Mastiff had a wash and spruce up at our Blackpool store's Pets Grooming salon.

Kari said: "Those lovely girls at Pets Grooming have scrubbed him so clean he looks like he's escaped from Blackpool Zoo."

Kari says Bob, who's ten months old, loves people, kids and other dogs, and adores the attention he gets. When he's not just had his bath and grooming treatment, most people mistake him for a Shetland Pony! "He was born on Valentine's Day and we were going to call him Romeo but decided on Bob as it's more Lancashire."
