18 months ago a customer contacted me to see if I could reconstruct a Cheetah from a skin which he was given in 1976 by an American repair manager when he was a captain on a vessel which he was taking to Walvis Bay for some work to be carried out on it.
It has remained in a chest of drawers since then! Unsure how long the repair manager had been using it as a rug but clearly has some age to it.
After running some test on the skin I thought I would proceed with preparing it, the tanning process used wasn’t the best and the feet ,tail, and head area had been poorly processed which led to grease burn making it very fragile, the ears needed splitting aswell. Hopefully the customer will be pleased with the result.
Sorry about the technical jargon! Some taxidermists will be interested in the issues I came across with an antique skin.
P.S I’m not looking to take on a similar commission like this again!

This female Goshawk belonged to a falconer friend of mine, she sadly died whilst out hunting some time ago. I was asked if I could recreate a pose similar to the bottom right photo…… generally I like to model birds in their most natural pose but overall I think I’ve done her justice as she was a stunning bird.

Recent Roland Ward restoration project of an Elk and an Eland. (famous London Taxidermy company established in the late 1800’s and closed around 1970) both are well over a hundred years old and have seen better days quite frankly! They hold great sentimental value to the customer so I stupidly said I would take on the project!
The materials used then included straw, hay, clay and plaster with a central wooden structure for strength, due to the clay and plaster these mounts are very heavy. With the Elk and it’s massive set of antlers, had put huge strain on the interior structure which had made them very loose, his right hand set was only just hanging on!
After many hours of work and frustration they are now complete and should live on for a good few more years to come!

Due to an overflowing commission order book I rarely make time to work on stock specimens that I have been given over the years , but I try to make 3 or 4 exclusive pieces for my web site.
Here are 3 that I have recently completed.
