This is Oreo the Persian! (Before and after groom)
I saw him just before Christmas as an emergency appointment to do a hygiene trim on him as he had gotten into a bit of a mess round his back end after a poorly stomach. Unfortunately I didn’t have time for a full groom, so he came back last week for a bath, dry and brush through. His body fur was quite compacted, but he was so good with the dryer which, with the help of a slicker brush and metal comb, helped to separate the fur. He is definitely going to be feeling so much better! I look forward to seeing him again for maintenance grooms 🥰❤️

Update: after speaking to a fellow groomer, I will be changing my insurance (when possible- hopefully sooner than later) to allow me to groom ALL dogs ❤️

I am very sad and sorry to announce that due to my insurance company, I will no longer be able to groom XL Bullies 😞 I have spoken to them this morning and they have informed me if I am found to be grooming them, my insurance policy will be cancelled. if your dog is clearly not an XL but falls under the category, I can still groom these dogs.
I will also still be microchipping all dogs and cats, so if you own an XL bully who is not microchipped, please get in touch ASAP to get booked in.

This little lady is Lucy the bichon 💕
She is currently under Many Tears Animal Rescue in a local foster home, but ready to be adopted, so she’s had a spruce up groom 🧡
Her whole life has been in a cage at a breeding farm, so her first groom was when she first went to rescue and had a full matted shave down. She was therefore very nervous today so I didn’t manage to clip her front nails, or trim around her muzzle, but that’s ok, she did very well considering this is her second ever groom! I hope Lucy finds her furever home soon 💖

With firework season coming up, don’t forget to ensure your pet’s microchip details are up to date.

Many pets are terribly spooked by fireworks, and often run off in an attempt to hide. If they are found, it is very important that they are microchipped, so the vets/rescue centre can contact you and reunite you with your pet.
Since 2016, it has been the law that all dogs must be chipped by the age of 8 weeks and from June 2024 it will be legal to have all cats microchipped too.
I have been microchipping for over 10 years. The company I use also does free ownership transfers for breeders. Please contact me if you wish to get your pets microchipped. Don’t forget that rabbits can be chipped too! ###

Maisey’s teeth cleaning sessions:

Session 1: I usually focus on the canines, the upper carnassials (the big pre molar) and the molar teeth, as these are the ones that tend to have the heavier plaque build up. If we have time, and if the dog allows, like Maisey did, I will also start on the other pre molars.

Session 2: since Maisey was very cooperative, I managed to finish the upper set, and also complete the lower teeth too. Most dogs with a Tartar build up like Maisey would usually require 3 sessions.

Her owner was thrilled and will be bringing her every few months for follow up sessions to keep her teeth sparkly, and her gums healthy!

Meet Barney the Yorkie! He is on my cooperative care grooming schedule, to re-train him to being groomed. He’s the loveliest boy, not aggressive atall, but due to an incident with a previous groomer, he’s very nervous being groomed and does not like clippers or scissors near him.
This was his 3rd visit to me, he had a bath and scissor tidy up. It’s not an overnight process atall but I am starting to see a difference in Barney trusting me and not being as nervous during grooming. ❤️❤️❤️

I recently went to see Alfie the Persian for a groom. He has a brush over and dematt as needed, and I also cleaned his ears and eyes as they were a little dirty too. Let’s talk about fleas, because there seems to be a huge issue this year with them.
There are a number of different active ingredients that the ‘top brands’ of flea products use, as seen below. Fipronil is in frontline, Itch, new Bob Martin products, and other products that you don’t need a prescription to buy. Resistance to it began about 15 years ago, and now about half the flea population is not affected by it.
Imacloprid is Advantage or Advocate. Since the drop of frontline, this has been one of the ‘main’ flea prevention that a lot of vet practices use, and what we would advise to buy if you’re unable to get to a vets (advantage doesn’t require a prescription). Over the last year, a suspected resistance to imacloprid has been noticed.
Fluralaner is in bravecto, which currently seems to have no issues with resistance. This is because it’s a relatively new drug, so the flea population hasn’t had time to mutate to become resistant. I like bravecto because it lasts for 3 months. Bravecto plus also treats for worms too.
There are other veterinary products that also have a very small amount of resistance, such as credelio or Nexguard (afoxolaner).
Don’t forget that 95% of the flea population (including eggs, larvae and pupae) live in the environment, so you need to treat your house too. Indorex is probably the best for this, and it can be purchased from a vets or online.

Mr Sunnie styling my new bandanas!

I’ve always been a bow girl, but the company always sends more pinks and purples than other colours so I run out of ‘boy bows’ quickly.. so I’ve moved onto bandanas! I have an array of different fabrics, and you bet I’m gonna have Christmas themed ones too! (Not Halloween sorry, I’m a Halloween Scrooge!!)

Meet Teddy and Jess! 🐾

They were overdue a groom, unfortunately their prev groomer cancelled on the day of their groom, so their owner contacted me but I was booked up for a few weeksTheir owner struggles to groom them at home so they had gotten into a bit of a tangle!
I pre clipped both of them on a #7 blade, a good bath consisting of 2 shampoo rinses, and then dry time. I clipped their nails and trimmed out their paw pads, then went over them again with a #7 blade to neaten up the fur. They then had a spritz of pet cologne, and I fitted a bandana to them. Their owner was so happy with them! They were both so well behaved, I look forward to grooming them again 😍🐶

I recently had someone tell me they’d like to come to me because they liked the cat grooms I’d done from my pics on here. I thought I’d have a nosey at my cat pics and realised Ive barely posted any recently! So here’s some cats I have done over the last few months, a mixture of brush and de-sheds, dematts, and lion clips. my phone is full of client pet photos but I’m a bit rubbish at actually posting them 😹

When I do home visits for cats, I’m usually asked to go into the kitchen or the living room to do them. Occasionally I’ve been into bedrooms.

Today was a first, Leo had his groom in the bathroom! I don’t mind where we go, I prefer to groom them on the floor as it’s easier on my back and easier to restrain the cats if needed. Leo has a good brush and de-shed today.
He looks like a model cat for interior design here’

I love how trained Rupert is, he sits so quick before I’ve even got a treat in my hand 😂
Treat orientated dogs are much easier to groom as they generally learn how I want them to behave so quick!
If I’m doing their paw pads, for example, I’d they pull back and do the twisties, they don’t get a treat. As soon as they settle and allow me to do it, they get a treat. You’d be amazed how quickly most dogs pick this up!

The magic of artero Matt X spray! This spray is my absolute go to when wool coats are a bit tangled. Here’s William demonstrating just how well it works! (Disclaimer- I do not spend any longer than 10/15 mins dematting as it isn’t in the best interest of your pet, any matts that won’t come out with a slicker brush and the blaster dryer will be clipped off for your pet’s welfare. Some fur types brush out easier than others, so this service is totally dependant on your pet’s fur, condition of coat, and behaviour)

Imagine if every cat was as chilled as sebby.. 😻 (He has had no sedation or medication, he’s just a super relaxed boy!💙)

Here’s a short (ish) video on how to quick trim your dogs during this lockdown. I wish I was still open but unfortunately we aren’t classed as essential 😞 I only do his face/feet/tail, but you can do their body and rest of their legs if you like. Please note this is a very quick job- would usually take more precision on grooms.
