Fully recommend checking out the HP kits as they are really good value for money.

So this week just goes to show how quickly things can change in one’s life, it’s important to be realistic as life isn’t all good bits.
Last week, riding round Royal Cornwall main arena ticking off some goals. Trailer has been fixed by the lovely Alan to make it safer for them when travelling.
This week lots of things have come to test me, I’ve been feeling rough which hasn’t helped with my ability to cope with it all.
Kenzo managed to somehow get himself into a predicament that we were all (him included) lucky to have been able to get him out so easily. Thanks to the Horse Rail system on the round pen fencing I was able to release it within minutes and get him out.
Then today Mimby was laying down chilling out with Mollie when I went down to get her from the field. When she got up it was clear something was wrong, she was sore and stiff and had a nasty graze down her leg and round her hock. Cold hosing and antibiotic spray will hopefully allow it to heal whilst she continues to move round to reduce swelling, at the moment she looks rather uncomfortable so lots of healing vibes please everyone. Annoyingly no sign of how she has done it. So will just have to keep a close eye on her.
Huge thank you to Kernow Equine for getting to me so quickly and helping in this tricky situation.
This wet weather has helped my hayfever a bit so I’m relieved but none of us are out of the woods yet. Here’s to a more positive week next week 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
I have some space this week for coaching sessions on your own horses.
Tuesday and Friday this week… should anyone want some assistance please send me a message.
I find it incredible how Mimby has really greyed out in the last year. I know both her parents are grey so I’m not really surprised but she really has changed a lot.
Funny really as Loui is still very much a dark bay horse, just goes to show how different full siblings can be.
Looking at these two photos by Fleur Churchill taken nearly 7 years apart you can really see how much she has changed.
Do any of you have horses who look significantly different to their younger selves?
We survived!! Thank you so much to everyone who sent me messages and cheered us on from the sidelines of the main arena today.
Plaiting last night was tricky as Mimby’s mane is thick and not quite long enough to be put in scallop plaits all the way down her neck, but if had I cut it short enough to then sew it up into plaits it would be unruly and the plaits rather large, so it was a bit of conundrum… I finally finished plaiting her at 00:38 this morning 😱 but they looked super and stayed in all day. I need to say a huge thank you to Karen Ezee Tails for her amazing Fake It! As it meant I could get this mane into scallop plaits.
So after 3 hours sleep we ventured off to Royal Cornwall Show, the girls travelled beautifully and we were looking forward to getting ready for the Iberian inhand class when Mimby managed to take her front shoe off, bending it in the process. So we had a mad dash across the showground to find some help, luckily Andrew James was able to straighten it and put it back on for me.
By this point we had missed the inhand class so we tacked up and warmed up for the ridden class. Mimby wasn’t feeling easy at all on the trot today, but that’s not surprising as it’s a big atmosphere with lots of people, flags and huge jumps. So we used the canter and walk more in our show.
Now I know there was so much we could have improved on, BUT I am so proud of her dealing with it all, looking after me and being absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you to so many people, including: Lottie chops, Lynn, Flying Changes Mindset, Symonds Saddlery Stephanie Smith, Master Saddler, Qualified Saddle fitter. Hairy Pony Helen Askey Equine Sports Massage Nicky Allen Ethos Rebekah Buchanan MBH Equestrian Coaching Lisa Todd Diane Thurman-Baker
Ladies I am so very grateful for your incredible support, ass kicking, encouragement whatever it may be to get us to this point. We will keep trying 💗

The last time Mimby was at Royal Cornwall Show she was a very different colour. This year she has to be bathed within an inch of her life as she is so grey now.
I am so envious seeing everyone’s posts about being at the show today. Hope you’re all having a wonderful day. I have a long day today at work, so hopefully it will keep my brain occupied as I tend to overthink things.
Working with Jenni at Flying Changes Mindset I have learnt that I can realistically only control the controllables and I need to prioritise certain things which are achievable rather than stressing and not getting anything done.
Plaiting tonight, thank goodness for Hairy Pony products, early stain wash and then off we go in the morning 🤞🏼 looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
A lovely evening teaching, followed by plaiting this gorgeous fella for Lucy wishing you the best of luck for your class my dear. Enjoy it and have a great day.

It’s Royal Cornwall Show week, so this beaut of a picture has to come out.
Taken on my birthday in 2016, riding the beautiful Eco, bred and owned by Carol Atkins strutting her stuff in the main arena.
That was a tough year, very slippy, spicy pony and I was carrying very precious cargo 💗, a couple of weeks after this Mimby was born and this year is her time to have a go.
Keeping fingers and toes crossed that she can keep her cool and stay focussed on me. 🤞🏼

Words from my book The Strength That Stays 🌹
I’m very grateful to work with such lovely horses and riders x
So this morning I was back in the “office” and guess what the focus was today?… Suppleness.
Having worked hard this week with Diane to get Mimby using her body in a more flexible way, I thought it would be a good subject to focus on for the Working Equitation sessions.
Slalom, 2 barrels, rein back, bridge and bull line were our main obstacles today. Each horse and rider combination worked on transitions, and ensuring a consistent rhythm throughout the course.
Well done everyone! So good to see you all. Another day of Working Equitation tomorrow, this time at Woodwick Farm. I think we are forecast good weather 🌞
Loved how many people admired my WE Equip clothing. If you want to get your own check out their pages!
We have been a little quiet this week as we are away training with Diane Thurman-Baker at Turville Valley Stud
Tuesday consisted of an in-hand session and another on Wednesday morning, we have been focussing on simple A, B, C so if we are struggling with getting A we don’t progress on to B and C. It’s been really nice to take things back to basics and really make sure we have correct communication of the different aids. It will make moving up the levels a lot easier.
I am so relaxed learning in this environment as I learnt from the beginning here many moons ago. I enjoy riding Mimby and just want to be able to do her justice and I hope taking things back to basics will give me that confidence I need to be clearer and more consistent with her.
I hope you’ve all had a nice half term week
Times for Saturday’s Working Equitation at Knightswood Stud
9am Suzanne N, Angela W, Alyson
10am Charlotte H, Belinda W
11am Hayley T, Nicky B, Jane
12pm Lucia C, Kate G-A
Hopefully these will work for everyone, I’ve got very little signal until tomorrow but any problems or if I’ve forgotten anyone (sorry) please let me know

I absolutely love what I do 💗
This weekend I was part of the team at the Little Margate Confidence Camp and what a super group of horses and riders we had.
I love these weekends, they are incredibly draining and exhausting emotionally and mentally but it’s so worth it to see how much riders achieve in the two days.
This year we had some returning riders and oh my, how they’ve grown 🫶🏻 I feel so honoured to see them setting new goals and challenges for themselves as they’ve totally smashed their previous goals over the past year.
Hopefully I’ve given them the tools to be able to stand back and look at their actions and find ways to help themselves in the future.

With Royal Cornwall Show just round the corner, I had this photo of the wonderful Viriato (owned by Sarah Baldwin) pop up as a memory.
This photograph makes me laugh as at the moment it was taken we were slightly out of control in Vinny’s big trot back towards the warm up arena, he wasn’t even touching the ground.
I was smiling and hoping for the best 😂 trying to make it look like I wasn’t holding on for dear life.
I have been truly blessed to have had these opportunities over the years.

A weekend of wins for us 💗 and I don’t mean 🏆
The outdoor school for me has been a bit of a nemesis, I came off in there a few times with Loui and I had made a complete mental block about it.
This weekend however I not only managed a whole lesson on Mimby in there, I then spent Sunday, attempting to, run around with Lottie. Now for someone who is quite lame with usual day to day walking this was no mean feat 😂
Some times things just take time and work to get yourself to a point where you’re able to do things you previously had avoided. Keep taking little steps and you never know what you may achieve.
Thank you to Flying Changes Mindset for the continued support.
To Stephanie Smith, Master Saddler, Qualified Saddle fitter. For sorting out Lottie’s saddle (which we had lots of compliments about by the way 😉)
And to Hairy Pony who enable us to get our horses looking tip top.
Stephanie Smith, Master Saddler, Qualified Saddle fitter. Is such an important member of our support team, she is so thorough and has helped me provide the correct comfortable tack for our horses
Adding another string to my bow, very excited to be joining the ASFR team. I’m hoping it will be a great way of getting more riders in Cornwall to meet each other, learn a new skill and become more confident at riding with others.

New Coach Announcement
We are thrilled to announce that Cassy Gadsby is joining All-Steps Formation Riding as a coach.
Cassy started her training at Turville Valley Stud classical riding centre, on the ponies from the age of 4 and then moved on to the Lusitano stallions from 11. The children from the stables were involved in their own musical drill rides on the riding school ponies.
As a long time enthusiast of the Iberian horse, Cassy is very excited about the connection
with the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art and looks forward to being part of building this sport further within Cornwall and Devon.
Welcome to the formation family Cassy 😀

Cooling off after a great session schooling Mimby today in the pen before work. Working more on suppleness both laterally and longitudinally, she is getting stronger in the walk and canter, trot still needs work but it’s coming better 💪🏻 After her dragon impression the other day I wasn’t very happy to see the 3 mini ‘land clouds’ 🐑🐑🐑 as Catherine called them squeeze through the gate and bounce into the pen to say hi 😱 but put them back into garden and she carried on fine thank goodness Nice to see the pigs snoozing in the sunshine 🐖🐖
Apologies for the wind noise at the beginning. It’s ok to not be ok, but start taking control of the things you are able to. Flying Changes Mindset
What an absolutely beautiful day. I’m so grateful for the blue skies today they make me smile. The birds are singing and Lottie and I got out for the first time together on the ponies. 3.2 miles this morning, some hills and some trot work. Well done Lottie and Finn. Happy mindset, ready to drive over to Woodwick to see Jo and Nicky this afternoon
Love how Lottie takes pride in making a nice level bed, not that the horses appreciate it 😂 Ethos nothing better than a nice fresh bed. Thank you to Buchanan Equine Services for super quick service as always ♥️
A little bit of fun this morning, Lottie and I got caught in a surprise rain shower without a coat, so we improvised. Thank goodness for Ethos IEC Equine Solutions bedding bags
It always amazes me how little time people give their horses to work through things. Now… don’t get me wrong, I’m not professing to be an expert by any means, but my horse is teaching me to be more patient. This video is 1.06 minutes and in our ‘instant’ society this may seem like such a long time, but look how long it takes her to begin working through what we had been doing. If we don’t give our horses time to work out what we are asking before we ask for it again, or even ask for something different, how on earth do we expect them to work with us happily?
Hairy Pony quarter marking kit is here 💪🏻 It’s soooo beautiful 🥰 will make a fabulous present for those who love to show off their horses 🍑 Soon to be available from Ezee Tails or through yours truly x
First day back at school for me, so I was pleased to get back to what I love this evening. It was lovely to see Kathie and her beautiful gent Cortez in the Cornish sunshine. Kathie has been working hard on fine tuning her understanding of the Working Equitation obstacles, tonight we worked on suppleness, as this is the area they receive most comments on during their tests. With a combined age of over 80, these two show that you can do anything you set your mind to. 💪🏻 Mixing up the slalom, with the stretch over the bridge followed by the working pirouette, which Kathie only started to get her head around this evening. Just goes to show you don’t need to have a a lot of obstacles out to work through hour WE skills. I hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine. Flying Changes Mindset Stephanie Smith, Master Saddler, Qualified Saddle fitter.
Fair weather rider? ☔️ not today 😂 Back on Zimblet number 1, he was a good boy dear of him. I’m so unfit, but he looked after me. Great to be back on and thank you to Dan at Amble Equestrian for all you do for him (and me)😍 v grateful Thanks to Lucy for videoing Flying Changes Mindset I’m back schooling 💪🏻 it’s taken me a long time to be mentally ready for this but we are going in the right direction Stephanie Smith, Master Saddler, Qualified Saddle fitter. Symonds Saddlery great to be back in this saddle x
Such a wonderful day. We got home at 1am 😱 seeing as we had started the day at 4:30am it was a LONG day 😴😴😴 But such a great day. I heard on the way home that Alex Carrington was awarded 4th place in the Spanish Parade so this was another success for the weekend. Well done everyone
Well Mrs Mimby is getting to grips with this schooling malarkey. Thanks to Lisa and of course to Amber for piloting her again whilst I was teaching. I’m very grateful to have such a lovely young flexible rider to ride this mare in the school until I have the time and the confidence to get back to it. Having a major blip in my confidence has been so strange as I can honestly say I’ve never felt as bad as this before. I think 2022 was just one of those years and im going to do my best to learn from it and move on, even if at the moment that is at small steps. Thanks the tools I have learnt from Flying Changes Mindset I am able to process this time well and am staying positive. One thing I’ve learnt from my lovely clients recently is that most people think that they are the only one feeling this way. Can I just say you are most definitely NOT the only one feeling a little apprehensive or worried at times. So look out for each other, be kind and keep going! Mimby and I have been doing our homework from our lesson last week with Rebecca Balance Horsemanship (please excuse my casual attire, it’s Boxing Day, chill out day) I’m working on getting the bond back with Mimby as since she has been back, she has been a little unbalanced in her body and mind. Not surprising really when she had such an upheaval, change of environment and change of routine in August after my accident. She is a sensitive soul and didn’t cope as well with the adjustment as her big brother who is thriving. Now I know how this feels as I am in exactly the same position, but how we find it and sort it is a work in progress both for me and her. I struggle to get on the left of her and turn right as she likes me to be on the right, but today we managed to walk our square with me on the left so that’s a little win. Also stepping back was a lot lighter off the ask aid today, so that’s also a positive. I love working at Liberty with this mare and always have done, she teaches me so much and we are only in a very slow walk! So imagine how much there is left to learn 😱 I am incredibly blessed to have these horses in my life and am hoping to get my mojo back for a fun 2023! For anyone looking to learn more about their horses either on the ground or on board I thoroughly recommend you contact Rebecca as she can help you unlock a world you didn’t know existed with your horse.
It’s that time of the year to wish you all a very Merry Christmas 🎄 I can’t thank you all enough for sticking with me this year which has been incredibly turbulent, my whole world fell apart in March and then my body was smashed to pieces in August BUT thanks to the amazing team at Flying Changes Mindset and some incredible friends I am still going, still smiling and being the best person I can be. I have learnt so much, grown so much and developed as a person in the last 9 months, so watch out 2023 I’m coming to get ya! I honestly would not have got through the year without Jenni, Jo, Lynn, Rebecca and Nicky to name but a few of the amazing people in my life. A huge thank you also has to go to the heros at Knightswood Stud and Equestrian Centre Lisa and Sophie who have looked after the Zimblets so beautifully. Merry Christmas everyone ###
Following last week’s impromptu dismount from Mimby I went through a really miserable spell where I seriously considered giving up and thought maybe this is the universe’s way of telling me I’m not cut out for this life anymore. I’m not giving up, but I am going to take a step back and do more with her on the ground. Find our connection again and then get help with the ridden work whilst I am getting stronger. One of my very knowledgeable friends who I respect a lot said to me that “maybe trying to rehab your body on two young horses who are a mix of two of the sharpest breeds going isn’t the best of ideas. Take a step back and find your muscles and strength again on a more sedate horse.” Although I know she is right it took some time to swallow my pride. I took Mimby in the pen tonight after work, but before we lost the light, and although she reminded me that we have a long way to go, I also remembered she has it all there in bucket loads I just have to learn to communicate with her. So next time I have a wobble please feel free to give me a little shove back in the right direction 😃
Good morning with the film team for Cornwall air 999 hopefully raising the profile for Cornwall Air Ambulance which we are incredibly lucky to have in this county There is a button below if you are able to donate to this charity 💕
So whilst many other Lusitano (and partbred) owners were up in Rugby this weekend showing off their amazing horses at the Annual Lusitano Breed Show of GB my two were showing me just how amazing they are by taking Lottie and Halle out on a little hack. Mimby was a little tender on her feet after hacking over the big stones in the forestry area yesterday but she and Loui were amazing with the girls. Thank you so much to Lynn Combes for being Halle (and Mimby’s) wing woman. Both horses were absolute stars and seemed to be aware of their precious cargo. Neither put a hoof out of place. Blessed truly blessed x Flying Changes Mindset Stephanie smith, saddler, saddle fitter & bridle fitter.
