Love this video! It’s a bit cheeky/fruity towards the end - but who doesn’t love a good joke eh?

Strewth… it’s been a tough week for dogs (and us humans) in this heat!

This gent is absolutely right! Doggos love a nice cold ice cube, frozen lickiMat, and frozen Kong (don’t forget to use a straw to create an air hole through)! Regular dog walk doggy Cooper the chocolate lab and our very own Beau Beau have loved frozen broccoli florets this week too!

As well as nice cool treats - remember to respect the heat! Also - not just the temperature but also how humid it is!

If you’ve not got one yet - nothing better than a doggy paddling pool! Hard shell ones tend to work best - put fold up/down ones also great!

Our little friend and regular dog walk doggy “Vinnie the Mini” the frenchie is currently recovering from knee surgery! We’ve been using our puppy pram and brand new super duper doggy back pack by to get him out and about and seeing his doggy friends and getting a change of scene and it’s done him the world of good!

We’ve also worked with his humans to show them lots of enrichment games and activities they can do to occupy him whilst he’s on restricted exercise!

We love you Vinnie! Get well soon! 😘

The perfect antidote to a rainy afternoon… a double dose of chocolate (lab) 🥰

Apologies for our social media break over the last few months! Things have been a bit non stop (more on this later). But we promise we’re going to try and get better at sharing our dog walk, pet sitting, canicross, Mantrailing and dog training updates.

We thought sharing a pic out our lovely Friday afternoon walk with chocolate labs Millie and bear would be a good place to start 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Huge congratulations to Lynda (mum to Bertie) for being our July customer of the month and 'Mrs Motivator' for 2021. It was a tight run contest - with both Victoria (mum to Pip) and Gareth (dad to Gareth) who were also shortlisted also having crazily high scores. Thanks to everyone that voted to show support for these three lovely people.

We will be announcing the shortlist for our August customer of the month next week. For August - our theme is 'Progress champ'. This is for customers that have worked hard at achieving their goals (and even go on to do better still). For this month, our Swift Paws team are compiling the shortlist.

24/06/2021

We are delighted to announce that we are launching our monthly canicross challenge sessions.

Each month we have a canicross monthly challenge (one off 1 hour session). The first half of the session is a canicross-skills themed challenge, the second half of the session is a relaxed and chilled group run. At the start of each session, our canicross instructor (Sian) will give you some coaching on the top tips to help you to do your best at the challenge and also to develop the skills it tests going forwards. The challenges are open to any canicross and/or running ability - as you are only testing yourself and you can run or walk this! Everyone that takes part will get a rosette. Also - we like a social session here at Swift Paws, so at the end of each session there is the chance to stay behind for a mini picnic social to get to meet and chat to the other people on the session. If you want to do this, just bring a drink/snack and picnic blanket.

Our first two challenges are:

Wednesday 30th June 7-8pm @ The Urban Bike Park, Middleton:
Our June challenge is 'The hill challenge'. This is where you will challenge yourself to see how many times you can get up and down a hill in 20 mins.

Saturday 31st July 10-11am @ Temple Newsam:
July's challenge is the speed slalom challenge. You will have 20 mins to record your fastest attempt at our slalom course.

We'll be announcing our challenge for August very soon - so keep checking back to find out more details.

Book early to avoid disappointment - places are limited.

15/06/2021

We are delighted to announce our shortlist for our "Mr/Mrs Motivator" for our customer of the month award for July 2021.

Lynda (mum to Bertie - react with a thumbs up to vote for her)
Lynda is one of our lovely canicrossers and is about to do her final week of her Urban Bike Park 5k to 10k programme and is doing her Intro to Mantrailing later in June.

Lynda brings a lot of fun to the group - sending funny updates and photos on the group WhatsApp chat and sharing her tips on mindfulness.

Gareth (dad to Nala - react with a heart to vote for him)
Gareth is one of our regular Mantrailers and brings a bag full of fun to both sessions and the group WhatsApp chat. Gareth got Nala so that he could do a lot of gun dog work with her, but due to an injury that meant she couldn't overdo gun dog work he got into mantrailing. He recently introduced his friend Louise to our Mantrailing sessions and even came on one of his only weekend days off a month to support her on her intro to mantrailing at the weekend.

Victoria (mum to Pip - react with a care/cuddle to vote for her)
Victoria is one of our canicrossers on our canicross 5k to 10k programme. Victoria is always unbelievably kind to all the humans and doggies at our training sessions and always has a massive smile on her face.

You've got until midnight on 30th June to vote. The winner will get a bottle of wine (or other suitable beverage of their choice) and £20 of vouchers towards our group mantrailing or canicross sessions.

Anyone can vote - so be quick and get voting now!!!

It’s been another busy week here at Swift Paws UK and we’re just grabbing a cold drink before our intro to Mantrailing in Roundhay these evening. We’ll be sharing Mantrailing and dog walk updates from this week over the weekend.

We just wanted to quickly update you on how our Temple Newsam canicross couch to 5k group are doing.

They had their second session last night and are doing brilliantly! This week we worked on communicating as a group and with anybody we meet on sessions. The ladies did amazingly - not only giving clear and consistent commands but also louder commands so people and doggies can hear clearer. It might sound easy - but for new canicross let’s getting to grips with running, talking to their dogs, looking ahead to plan the route and breathing at the same time it takes a bit of practice... and these ladies are now doing really well at this both on their own and as a group.

Really proud!!!

Keep it up ladies!

We’ve gone golden retriever mad here at Swift Paws!

Sian (our chief dog Walker, pet sitter, canicross instructor and Mantrailing instructor) grew up with a wonderful golden retriever called “Jordy” when she was a little girl and loved him to bits and still misses him. You can see them together in the photo on the top left of this pic!

For the 3 years that Swift Paws has been up and running Sian’s been desperate to have a golden retriever customer... and then 4 come at once!

Say hello to Django, Lady, and Bertie and Freddie.

Django (top right) is one of the new doggies joining us for regular dog walks. He’s based in Chapel Allerton and is a big bundle of love and energy!

Next up is Lady (bottom left) who is based in Kippax! We help her owners out by providing pet sitting and dog walks for Lady when they need some extra help! Lady loves a good game of tug (actually just about any game) and a good ear stroke!

Then we have Freddie and Bertie! They and their lovely mum Helen joined us for for a canicross coaching session in Temple Newsam a few weeks ago and had the best time together!

Sian has loved all the love, cuddles and fun times with these beauties and can’t wait for more!

We’ve had a lovely, busy week at Swift Paws with customers old and new...sorry for the lack of updates we’ve not stopped all week (which is just how we like it 😉).

Whilst we wait for our Sunday roast at the pub, let’s give you a quick Mantrailing update. Say hello to Team Catahoula (Linda and “Tank”, Nathan and “Judy”, Jake and “Beau”, Nic and Nan and “Simba”). We were so excited to work with them as we had never worked with Catahoula Leopard Hounds before. They are big, beautiful, strong and intelligent dogs and we had so much fun!

This was their first follow on training session and they were all brilliant! We did a couple of trails and also practiced line handling and sniff target exercises.

Can’t wait to see them again in less than 2 weeks!

If you’d like to have a go at Mantrailing - we have a couple of intro courses coming up in June and July. There’s only a handful of places left in total so be quick. If you’ve already had an intro with a Mantrailing UK instructor and would like to come to follow-on trailing in Leeds just let us know.

Love this trail from our mantrailing session on Monday. This is Gareth and “Nala” and this is their first training session after their intro! Nala has really gotten the game now so we are starting to make it harder so she has to work the trail more. Watch her body language - it’s brilliant!

Cocker spaniels weave a lot when trailing - which means the trail handler has to really concentrate when working the long line. We’ve worked with Gareth to help him to get to grips with this - and for a first follow on training session we think he’s done brilliantly here.

Well done Gareth and Nala. Really proud of you both!

We’ll be sharing a video of Vicki and “Neptune” from session very soon so keep a look out for it!

If you’d like to know more about Mantrailing and would like to book onto one of our intros courses or training sessions just let us know!

New website coming soon! 🥳

Beau Beau has been working hard on our new website. It’s taking her a little while longer than expected because our Mantrailing and Canicross bookings have gone through the roof in the last week or so. But don’t worry she’s on it and we’ll let you know when she’s got it done.

In the meantime - check out our Instagram and pages to keep up to date with what’s going on.

Our super canicross 5k to 10K group at the Urban Bike Park in Middleton absolutely smashed out their week 4 run 2 session on Saturday morning.

It was a real tough one - with the second half of the session being 2 min intervals of fast runs and jogs.

They all dug deep and kept going to the end! They also did a lot of work on left and right turns - which is tough when you are doing a tough session.

Well done ladies we are really proud of all of you. You’re all making great progress with your canicross and running technique. Let’s go team!

We are super excited to announce that we are launching our 'Swift Paws customer of the month' awards.

Each month will have a different theme reflecting key elements of our ethos (e.g. team work, working hard overcoming a challenge, supporting others, being kind, trying something new etc)/ At the start of each month we will announce the theme for that month and you will have 2 weeks to get your nominations to us. We will then announce a short list in the middle of the month, giving 2 weeks for people to vote (anyone can vote - even if they are not a customer). At the end of the month, we will count the votes and announce the winner - who will get a special gift from us.

For our first customer of the month, we have a special 'Swift Paws NHS Hero' award. These are customers that work for the NHS and have provided invaluable support to people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sian (our chief dog walker, pet sitter, canicross instructor and mantrailing instructor) has shortlisted 3 amazing ladies for the award. For our first award, as well as the winner getting a special prize at the end of the month, all 3 ladies that have been shortlisted have been given a bottle of wine to thank them for all of the help and support they have given to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The winner will win 2 hours worth of canicross or mantrailing group training sessions.

You can read details of why they have been shortlisted below. You can vote by selecting one of the following post reactions:

To vote for Sarah (mum to Sanchez): Thumbs up reaction
To vote for Nimah (mum to Stan the Man): Heart reaction
To vote for Dawn (mum to Archie): Hug/care reaction

*Nomination for Sarah (mum to Sanchez)*
Sarah is one of our dog walk customers and recently did amazingly well when she had an intro to canicross session with Sanchez with us. Sarah even recommended us to Niamh (her friend and colleague).

Sarah worked throughout the pandemic. Sarah’s regular work is as an occupational therapist assessing and treating people admitted to hospital after having a stroke. Obviously, during the pandemic people didn’t stop having strokes so Sarah had been needed to continue to work as normally as possible throughout. Sarah contributed to work to get these patients back home and back to normal function, and with the restrictions in place for hospital visitors, Sarah made sure the patients on her ward were able to FaceTime/call their loved ones as part of their therapy sessions.

During the 3rd lockdown, Sarah volunteered to work on Intensive care to help with the increasing demand seen on the staff there. Part of this involved working most weekends throughout the lockdown and provide care to patients that she wouldn’t normally see.

*Nomination for Niamh (mum to Stan the Man)*
Niamh is one of our dog walk and pet sitting customers and recently completed her intro to mantrailing course with us. Niamh is amazingly kind and caring and sends the most amazing photo updates of her adventures with Stan and her partner Rory.

Niamh has worked as an occupational therapist in stroke rehabilitation throughout the pandemic, working on the Acute Stroke ward. She has done this in full PPE, and most incredibly with a smile on her face throughout cheering everyone else up around her and helping everyone get through this difficult time. Throw into the mix she hasn’t been able to see her family in Ireland for 15 months (finally going in June! 😀) and she’s done an amazing job!

*Nomination for Dawn (mum to Archie)*
Dawn is one of our canicross customers - and completed our canicross couch to 5k course with us earlier this year. Dawn has a real love for life - and is a real team player who always motivates and supports people in her canicross groups and shares training updates with her friends.

Dawn works for the NHS, delivering digital solutions across all health and social care organisations within the West Yorkshire and Harrogate region. Covid saw an overnight shift in how services needed to be delivered. No longer were patients able to receive care face to face, services that were able to continue, moved to being digital. Tools such as online and video consultation software was deployed quickly, with 99.9% coverage across the whole region. Software to enable the visibility of X-rays taken at different hospitals was rolled out at pace and also sharing of other clinical information to increase patient safety.

Get voting now!!! You have until 6pm on bank holiday Monday (31st May 2021).

The story behind Swift Paws

Swift Paws provides dog walks, pet sitting and Canicross classes in North Yorkshire across Leeds(incl. Wetherby), Harrogate, and York.

We're so pleased that you want to know more about us.

So let's start from the beginning...

Swift Paws started with Chief Dog Walker Sian - who is absolutely mad about dogs. They have always played an important part her life and had always made her life better - and she loves them for it. Big dogs, small dogs, cheeky dogs, long dogs - you name them, she's got a special place in her heart for them all.
