Nikki Thomsit BHSII and RWYM Level 2 Coach, freelance riding instructor; biomechanics coaching; dressage and showjumping training; longlining; hacking out

I have over 25 years teaching experience with a wide range of clients, including riding club competitors, pony club children, happy hackers and county level show riders
I specialise in adjusting the rider’s biomechanics to improve the horse’s movement. This basically means changing the rider’s position and how they use their body to cause better performance in the horse. This includes getting con
trol of speed and steering, working the horse in a correct outline and preventing unwanted behaviour. If a round dressage outline is eluding you, or you’ve reached a good level and got stuck on a plateau, I can help you find the key to unlocking your horse’s potential. My particular success is boosting confidence in nervous riders so that riding becomes fun rather than terrifying.

How's January going for everyone? I'm enjoying the longer daylight hours and it's also nice to have some colder weather and get wrapped up in my warm clothes for teaching.
If anybody is looking for evening lessons, I'm free a couple of evenings a week from 7pm. Flatwork, groundwork and jumping if you have good floodlights.

Our Story
I was born with a love of horses and finally managed to pester my parents into letting me have lessons when I was 8. As a teenager I spent all my spare time at the local riding school, working in return for rides.
My teaching career began when I was 18 as a Sunday morning riding school instructor. I also began working in London as a legal secretary but my heart wasn’t in it and at 21 I left the office life to train for my BHS exams.
When I gained the BHS Intermediate Instructor certificate at 25 I decided to get out into the big wide world as a freelance instructor. I also became the yard manager of a livery yard of 16 horses.
I bought a potential event horse and started to crack on. However things did not go to plan and my horse (Archie) needed training and handling techniques way beyond anything I had experienced before. I was forced to open my eyes to different ways of doing things both with ground handling and also my riding.
Mary Wanless entered my life in 2006 when I attended one of her demonstrations. From there I attended one of her courses and was soon teaching her “Ride With Your Mind” technique with great success.
I continue to work with this technique today combined with other skills I have learnt throughout my career.
I work with a wide range of clients, including riding club competitors, pony club children, happy hackers, county level show riders and medium level dressage riders.
As a coach I specialise in adjusting the rider’s biomechanics to improve the horse’s movement. This basically means changing the rider’s position and how they use their body to cause better performance in the horse including; greater control, a rounder outline and less unwanted behaviour.
I originally called my business “better riding”, but as successful horsemanship requires attention to many areas, I have renamed my business “equine insight”.
