Recently I’ve been asked about placing recall workshops on.

So here is our Rocking Recallers foundation winter workshop.

This is a two part workshop so both 1 hour sessions must be attended.

Dates: 6th and 20th of December at 9:45 am.
Class is outdoors and each session 1 hour.

This will only go ahead with sufficient number and as always workshops are kept small for quality teaching.

Photo dump of some of the pawsome super stars 🌟 I’ve been lucky enough to work with recently.

Few newbies I ever got chance to photograph (next time doggos) and a few are sensitive cases in which we can’t photograph.

Feeling so lucky to work with a mix dogs all which have a mix of behavioural and training needs.

Can’t wait to work and introduce some more over the next few weeks.

We’ve only a few December spaces left before we break up for the festivities 🥳

It is okay to have off days!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

When we are feeling a little under the weather or perhaps in pain, it’s quite hard to
function at our usual pace.

We can be little slower than normal…….

We can be a bit less tolerant….and perhaps a little grumpier than normal.

We may even feel less sociable than we usually do.

Most of us would wish for a little more space or quiet time.

And this is no different for our dogs.

When our dogs are in pain or discomfort, or perhaps just not feeling quite themselves, they too may be less tolerant or grumpier.

Dogs too may request more quiet time and feel less like their usual cuddles.

They may require more space on their walks away from people with dogs who may invade their space.

And this is OK.

Just like us, dogs need time to recover, safe space which won’t be invaded, calming activities and lots of rest bite.

Let them fill that cup back up just like we need to do!!

We've been a little quiet here on our page. We have been so busy helping lots of dogs on one to ones and groups, alongside family celebrations and also horrible viruses, we have got a little behind our admin.

This has frustrated me and I had to remind myself my cup is overflowing and I need time to get better - I am only human I suppose!!!!

We are introducing SCENT-DETECT-CONNECT our new scent detection course with a twist.

This 4 week course is a foundation scent detection course which includes a little extra of bringing connection between owner and dog.

Spaces will be limited to 4 dogs per class which are 8 months plus.

Course commences Thursday the 7th of November at 9:45 am for 4 weeks. Location will be outdoors near Auchencairn,

Halloween is over...and now it is heading to the 5th November.

Time for darker nights, chillier days and warming ourselves by the glowing fires.

But it is also a time many dread!! Especially if you have a noise sensitive dog.

Yes, the dreaded fireworks.

Those scary bangs that appear from nowhere!!

It is no wonder so many animals fear this noise.

Do you have a noise sensitive dog? Does your dog get really scared from the fireworks?

With only days away it is too late to help your dog change how they about those bangs!! This takes time and can take many months of careful noise therapy training.

For now, all you must do is manage this.

So how can you help your dog now?

Check out our tips below:

⭐️ Ensure the house is secure - no escape routes. Keep doors, windows and any gates shut just in case. Dogs who are frightened could try and flee.

⭐️ Create a safe den in your house. This may be under a table, chair or a crate. This can be done right away and provide some tasty rewards in their so your dog gets used to it. On fireworks night you can provide good stuff in the den and can your dogs choice to enter or leave.

⭐️ Soundproof the den. You can do this by layering loads of blankets over the sides, back and top of the den.

⭐️ Provide comfort, so a lovely bed created in the den.

⭐️ Walk your dog early so no chance of experiencing a scary firework outdoors.

⭐️ Don't go out during fireworks - animals flee when they are scared.

⭐️ Close all windows and doors plus close curtains to help soundproof the house.

⭐️ Disguise the noise with the TV or music. Reggae music can work well with anxious dogs.

⭐️ Stay with your dog so they have the choice of company in the house.

⭐️ Certain herbs can be provided to help calm them. Chamomile, lemon balm and vervain mixes can be useful for nervous or anxious dogs. Speak to your vet to discuss.

⭐️ Have a new dog or pup don't assume your dog will fear or be fine...be proactive and provide good things such as play or natural chews or scent work.

⭐️ Provide entertainment in the case they would like to engage. You can also lay out lickimats, scent boxes and kongs to engage with.

⭐️ Above all, give them reassurance. You cannot reinforce the fear!!!!

These are some ideas to help manage the situation on the 5th. Or before for those organised events!!

If you feel your dog may need more then discuss different remedies with your vet.

Then start behavioural modification in January in preparation for next year with an ethical based trainer.

Let's hope that everyone sticks to the one night of fireworks. Maybe next year we will have soundless fireworks.
