Louis ❤️

Louis is 6 years old and has the most sweet gentle nature going. He has been in foster a while now and hasn’t put a foot wrong. He’s a bit of a celebrity locally and has as good a social life as his foster Dad does! The pup is honestly just awesome. He walks lovely on the lead and takes in everything around him.

Louis has an auto immune condition called Sebatious Adenitis (SA) and we think that because he doesn’t look like other Akitas this is why he is still waiting. Do not be put off by the way Louis looks. He has so much to offer and has a real cheeky character.

He requires twice monthly baths and takes a medication named Sporimune which SCAR will purchase for life. He is actually doing really well on this medication and has a lot of good healthy coat growth.

Louis could possibly be placed with an older gentle female dog after a successful introduction and children over 8. He also used to live with a cat so could possibly do so again.

If you would to adopt our lovely lad then please do complete the adoption form at www.secondchanceakitarescue.co.uk

Welcome to SCAR Nala.

Takara ❤️ & Odin ❤️

This beautiful mother and son duo are just fabulous!

Takara is 6 years old and is such a sweetheart. She is very friendly and affectionate with everyone she meets. She loves a cuddle and absolutely adores toys.

Odin is 4 years old and again is a friendly boy. He isn’t as loving as his Mum but does love a good fuss. Odin isn’t as much a fan of toys as his Mum is, he prefers a game of chase with you. You only need to look at him and use a silly voice and his tail starts to spin.

They are a bonded pair and will cry for each other if they aren’t aware of where the other is. We thought seriously about separating them as they had been separate in the pound but they really do belong together. Odin is more reliant on Mum than she is on him. They are both strong on the lead and will benefit from being walked on head collars. We think they have had little opportunities for walks and this contributes to their eagerness to explore. Odin is protective around other dogs so any potential adopters will need to have the patience to teach him that these dogs are no threat to him or his Mum.

They really are an adorable duo who do deserve a loving home with a nice garden they can play in and then lounge around. Their pictures show how beautiful they are.

As we have no history for them they will not be placed with children under 13 years of age.

If you would like to offer this beautiful couple their loving forever home then please complete the adoption form at www.secondchanceakitarescue.co.uk

Kai 💔

This is Kai. We were one of several rescues who received an email asking us to help Kai as the owner had been advised to euthanise him due to nipping.

We made contact and advised a behaviourist would be the best course of action, and that we would be happy to help find a home after that. We also said he did not need to be euthanised.

What happened next will haunt us forever! Kai’s owner could not afford professional help. SCAR have two behaviourists whom we work closely with and we offered help from them. That help was declined and we were told he was due to be euthanised yesterday. What went from an initial believed to be aggressive dog, soon turned out to be that of a misunderstood dog who had been placed in reactionary situations by his owner. An hour on the phone with the owner soon led us to understand this. Kai was an Akita not a Labrador, nor a spaniel nor any other fluffy type of dog. Kai lived to please and needed guidance and reassurance.

We offered to take Kai and work with him. We contacted the vet and asked them not to euthanise him but to release him to us. We contacted the owners Daughter and asked her to let it be known that we wanted Kai. The owner refused contact from her Daughter. The vets refused contact from us even though no GDPR breach would have occurred. We wanted Kai and nothing else!

Kai’s crime was to be an Akita and behave like one. Yes he nipped and on more than one occasion. Kai received no help to teach him that he didn’t need to react that way. He was expected to interact with anyone and everyone whether he wanted to or not. When SCAR expressed our upset that the dog was even put in these situations in the first place we were met with the threat of legal action!!! The money that legal action would cost would have gone a long way towards helping Kai behaviourally. Contrary to what others have been led to believe, Kai’s breeder cared. We contacted her and she too made contact and tried to prevent destruction of the dog. Her please fell on deaf ears. We thank her for trying.

The purpose of this post is not to slag off the owner, so please don’t do that, they were misinformed by other parties. So why would we make this post if not to cause a reaction?

Because Kai mattered that’s why! He mattered to us and we wanted to save him but we were denied the chance to do that despite several members of the team desperately trying. The next communication received was to say he was dead. Kai deserves to be remembered. If you don’t want a dog that does what the breed standard says then don’t get an Akita. They are not the breed for everyone and euthanasia should only ever be a last resort and over the first!!!!

Thank you to Kai’s human sister who did so much to try and save him. We are heartbroken, but your pain is much more, you knew him and you loved him.

We are sorry life was not kinder to you Kai. Run free you beautiful boy 💔💔💔

People may think they can silence us with threats. We will NEVER be silenced when a dogs life is taken so needlessly. EVER!!!!

Please share for Lola, she so deserves her forever home now, she’s waited long enough.

Oh Lola ❤️ this girl is just amazing!

Lola is just 5 years old and came into our care after she was found straying. Why someone wouldn’t want to claim this girl is beyond us!

Lola is fabulous 🥰. She loves people and is all too willing to greet you with tail wags and slobbery kisses. If you give her the opportunity she will jump in for a cuddle too.

Lola is up for as much people time as she can get, the more the better. She settles easily when you aren’t paying her attention and will happily wait for you to interact with her.

She loves watching what’s going on around her at kennels and will give a woof if you ignore her. She is a really happy go lucky girl who is more than willing to provide a warm friendly greeting to anyone!

Lola can live with children aged 10 years and over. She has a high prey drive so no small furries please, even the birds and the bees aren’t safe with this lady about! She would prefer to be the only dog.

She is a pleasure to spend time with and is a firm favourite with everyone she meets.

If you would like to offer our pretty Lola her forever home, please complete the adoption form at www.secondchanceakitarescue.co.uk

Takara ❤️ & Odin ❤️

This beautiful mother and son duo came into our care a few weeks ago after their time ran out in the pound.

Takara is 6 years old and is such a sweetheart. She is very friendly and affectionate with everyone she meets.

Odin is 4 years old and again is a friendly boy. He isn’t quite as trusting as his Mum but is happy to be around people and give and receive affection. He is more typical of the breed than she is.

They are a bonded pair and will cry for each other if they aren’t aware of where the other is. We thought seriously about separating them as they had been separate in the pound but they really do belong together. Odin is more reliant on Mum than she is on him. Flo ❤️

Pocket rocket Flo is around 12 months old and recently came into our care after she found herself unclaimed and out of time in the pound.

She is an absolute gem of a girl! She plays fetch and drops her toys at your feet. She loves to play with anything and can make a game out of anything. Did we mention she likes to play fetch?

She’s a confident girl and is happy to make friends with anyone. Flo is a fun loving girl who just loves life!

She could live with a nice natured neutered male after a successful introduction. She has a high prey drive so not cats or small furries please. She could live with dog savvy children aged 10 years and over.

If Flo is the little lady for you then please complete the adoption form at www.secondchanceakitarescue.co.uk

Flo is currently in kennels in Manchester.

Alice ❤️

Alice is a gorgeous little pocket rocket of approx 2 years old and came into our care after her time had run out and she was at risk of being PTS in the pound. She is the perfect introduction into the Akita breed for someone.

She has settled fabulously and is a really sweet girl.

Alice walks nicely on the lead and thoroughly enjoys being out and about away from kennels. She is such a funny girl who loves to play the class clown. Cheeky and inquisitive and so loving and sweet with it. We honestly could not praise this girls personality enough.

Alice has a male friend at the kennels and enjoys meeting other dogs, so could live with a gentle natured neutered male dog after a successful introduction: she could also live with dog savvy children aged 10 years and over. As usual no cats or small furries please.

If our gorgeous sweet Alice is the girl for you then please complete the adoption form at www.secondchanceakitarescue.co.uk

Oh Penny 🥰

Penny had a lovely walk out with team SCAR and some of our fabulous supporters. She walked very well on the lead and enjoyed the new sniffs.

She is such a lovely girl and has so much love to offer. Sadly, she is still suffering with kennel stress and really needs out as quick as possible. The weight is dropping off her and you can visibly see and count her ribs. She eats well but she is so distressed in the kennel. She’s extremely intelligent and has learnt to push at the kennel door to try and get out.

Penny is around 3 years old and could be placed with children aged 12 and over. She may be able to live with a laid back neutered male dog after a successful introduction. She would need someone around most of the time to help her understand she is safe and not going to abandoned again.

Please please please share Penny and help us to find her forever or foster home. She needs out of kennels urgently.

If you can help Penny please complete the adoption/foster form at www.secondchanceakitarescue.co.uk

Penny is in kennels in Stockport.

Cassie ❤️

Little Cassie is around 5/6 months old and came into our care after she was removed from a gypsy camp covered in dirt and diesel.

She has come a long way from that life now and has settled fabulously into foster with her GSD friend and the resident dogs.

Cassie can be a little pushy with other dogs, she’s a cheeky playful monkey and will respond when the pack tell her to behave. When she went into foster she had never been on a lead and was very unsure of what she was supposed to do. That was short lived and she soon understood that the lead means a trip to the pub or better still….the beach!

Cassie will happily live with a laid back neutered male dog, or be an only dog. She isn’t fussed either way. As she’s still only a baby she will need someone around most of the time. She could potentially live with a cat but no small furries please. She can live with dog savvy children aged 6 years or over.

If you think pretty Cassie is the girl for you then please complete the adoption form at www.secondchanceakitarescue.co.uk

Cassie is currently in Wales.

Mary ❤️

Poor Mary has been back in the vets for life saving surgery after developing intusussception.

This is where part of the intestine folds into itself. It’s a very painful and dangerous condition which can result in a blockage of the small bowel which is what has happened to Mary.

Due to the sheer amount of care Mary has needed and diagnostic imaging the bill is a small fortune. It’s quite understandable that her Mum could not afford such a huge sum, so, SCAR has stepped in to pay the rest of the bill which is still £2600. This is a bill we are little able to afford after those we had earlier in the year for Mary and Josie to get through parvo, and then for Sasha with pneumonia. We also had a large bill for Louis care and medication in his previous kennels. The total being around £18,000.

Without us helpingthe prognosis for Mary would have not have been bearable. She has been through so much and we couldn’t let it end like this for her. Each of the dogs we rehome holds a special place in our hearts.

Under any other circumstances it would have been covered by insurance but in this case it couldn’t be. Please make sure your Akita has insurance so you are never in a position where their treatment may be compromised. Mary does have insurance but as this was likely down to her intestines being damaged by parvo it’s a pre-existing condition and not covered.

We are sorry to have to ask for your support again in these tough times but our fundraising isn’t going to cover this. If you are able to donate please do so by clicking the link below, or our bank details are available.

Without you, we can’t continue to help our dogs in such desperate circumstances. Rescue back up for life means exactly that. Thank you so much ❤️

Huge thank you to the wonderful vets who were able to quickly diagnose and operate on Mary. They even managed to save her intestines! That’s twice you’ve saved our girl now! THANK YOU

Now, no more of these shenanigans please Mary madam!

Rainbow ❤️

Little lady Rainbow made her journey from the pound and into safe foster care with SCAR last Friday.

She is having and absolute ball in the home and her foster Dads say she is a pleasure to have. She loves playing with the resident dogs, who are both SCAR dogs too.

Thank you to Balwinder, Elizabeth & Tincie for playing chauffeurs for Rainbow, and to Elliott and James for opening their home to her. Thanks as always to the pound for keeping her safe until we could move her. With so many dogs coming in it isn’t an easy task for them.

Welcome to SCAR little Rainbow 🥰🥰🥰

URGENT FOSTER/ADOPTIVE HOME NEEDED - PENNY IS SHUTTING DOWN IN KENNELS. PLEASE SHARE EVERYWHERE.

Penny ❤️

Penny is around 3 years of age and came to us from a council pound after her family failed to collect her.

She is such a sweet and friendly girl with so much love to offer to her new family.

She walks fairly well on the lead but like all Akitas can have her giddy zoomie moments when you least expect! She appears to be friendly with other dogs so could possibly live with a nice natured neutered male after a successful introduction.

Dog savvy children aged 10 years or over will be fine, cats and small furries not so fine.

The pictures show just how much weight she is losing, she is eating fine and is perfectly healthy. But, she is dreadfully upset being shut away in a kennel and she is reacting destructively. She doesn’t destroy her bed but is chewing fixtures and fittings trying to escape. She desperately wants to be loved and needs regular contact from humans. For this reason her new family will need to be around for most of the time whilst she adjusts to family life out of kennels and learns to understand she is safe. We dread to think what the future holds for this sweet girl if we don’t find her a loving home quickly. At the moment she is dropping weight daily through stress, but stress causes so much more than weight loss. She has some Zylkene which is a herbal based treatment for dogs undergoing stress and even that isn’t helping.

If you can foster Penny or would like to adopt her then please complete the adoption form at www.secondchanceakitarescue.co.uk

Penny is located in Stockport and can be rehomed anywhere.
