I've run out of steam with posting updates on here recently, because all my effort is going into my brain to get the final parts of my coursework submitted. To keep you entertained in the meantime....enjoy this.

Ever heard of "laser pointer syndrome"?

I just thought I'd post a little info about it if you've ever used one with your pup (or cats!)

Imagine you’re a dog (or cat!). You see a tiny, zippy red dot flickering across the floor—prey! You leap, you chase, you pounce… but every time you get close, it vanishes. No scent, no texture, nothing to sink your teeth into. Just a frustrating, physics-defying illusion.

Here’s the science behind why this messes with dogs: Their hunting instincts rely on a full sensory experience—sight, smell, and touch. Unlike a ball or a squeaky toy, the laser has no physical presence. So while their eyes tell them go, go, go, their nose and brain scream what fresh sorcery is this? This disconnect can lead to obsessive behaviors, anxiety, and even compulsive shadow-chasing. Some dogs end up scanning floors and walls for phantom lights long after the game is over, stuck in a never-ending hunt for something they can never catch.

Accidentally shining the laser in their eyes could cause retinal damage too. What seems like a little harmless fun can brew a myriad of problems in your pups mind. None of us want to have a neurotic pup who questions reality and side-eyes every shadow for the rest of their days, so its worth sticking to the old fashioned and we'll tested toys they can actually sink their teeth into.

Creating a space where you can be around likeminded people who share the fun of the trail has always been very important to us, and for those with reactive dogs, it also means they are part of an accepting and understanding community where they can enjoy spending time with their dog without judgement.

I have several messages a week from clients and friends, asking if I can help them to rehome dogs when they are no longer able to cope or give the dogs the lives that they need. As much as facebook reaches a lot of people, I have to be responsible. This week I have an 8 year old female collie who really needs an active farm type life with no children, and a male frenchie who is now starting to bicker with their other frenchie housemate. I wish I could help them all find homes, I wish I could solve everyone's dog problems and it makes me feel a bit sad that I can't. Maybe it's time I set up my own rescue and retrain centre...

I don't know if I speak for all dog sitter's, but I do get a special feeling when people make that lovely little gesture of a gift for me brought from their holiday. I never expect them as im just doing my job by looking after their furry chums but Thank you for these little gifts, lovely people!

Sorry for the upsetting posts but we need justice. If anyone has any information on these two dogs, the contact details are in this post by Wings and Paws Rescue

We can now disclose the information regarding the missing (presumed stolen) DDB cross girls who disappeared from their homes on Sunday 12th January.
Nala and Nova were let out into their own back garden before bed, around 10.30pm. The garden was secure with a bolt in place on the gate.
When their owner went to let them back in no more than a few mins later the gate was wide open and the dogs were gone.

There was not a single sighting of these girls despite family and friends searching the streets and fields for hours upon hours. None of our appeals to find them gave any real information.... they just vanished.

On Friday 17th January they were discovered by a member of the public in a builders bag in the canal. The RSPCA believe they were drowned! They had been there since at least Monday 13th.

Wings and Paws Rescue have a personal connection with these dogs. We knew them, we knew the family.
Their owner had come to us for help in 2020 when a neighbour was being made homeless and he needed somewhere for his beloved elderly dog Teagan to live. Teagan stayed with us until old age took her. She was volunteers Gemma & Alex's first foster for us.
In 2024 their owner came to us to ask for help again, this time for herself - she'd fallen on hard times due to tragic family circumstances.. She knew the girls needed neutering for their health and we were more than happy to help with the costs. Clare took them to the vets personally.
When one of them was taken ill - it was us they called and Clare carried the dog in her arms to the vet who saved her life.
To say we are heartbroken is an understatement - we are broken right now 💔

These dogs were were loved and so well cared for by their family. They were taken from their own back garden and they were then murdered.
Who does something like that?

We appeal to the public to come forward if you have any information on who took them and who did this. These girls and their family deserve justice.

Please hold your dogs close and give them a hug from us.
Please don't let your dogs out of your sight for a second, not even in your own garden - it's just not safe for them.
