Bit of a dramatic end for our holiday. I’ve received the news that the brain cancer I have been stable of for 7 years has decided to kick up a fuss. I start monthly chemo next week and as I tolerated it well last time, I intend to keep grooming for as long as my chemo will allow so business as normal for now until I say otherwise - I’ll just have less available appointments on chemo weeks.
I want to keep grooming as it’s a great distraction and focus from my worries and along with my amazing family, it brings me joy! Be rest assured that your pups are still in the best of hands and if I ever feel that isn’t the case I’ll stop.
Apologies to those of you I’ve had to reschedule from next week but as a family we’re still reeling a bit from the news and trying to anticipate what our ‘new normal’ will look like with treatment and it’s side effects. Thanks for your support x

Beautiful Bailey Boy - he came to me 4 months ago and hated everything! The bath, the dryers, the brushes, the clippers, the nail clippers…everything. It goes to show the change that can happen when owners take your advice and do some desensitisation at home!
He was so so good today. He allowed me to do everything and remained calm through it all! Super star! 🌟

Mokie came to the boutique today for a full groom. She’s a cross between a Sproodle and a Cockapoo so I’m going to call her a Cockasproodlepoo. Hope we’re all in agreement on that 🐕🦺🐓🐩👍🏻

Bath and dry for Pongo, finished off the hand strip on Wiggy (she’s so pretty!) and ended my day with superstar Bailey for his bath and dry - just look at how handsome he is 🤩
When I first opened The Bark Boutique Dog Grooming earlier this year, one of the first things I did was to connect with other dog groomers in my area to introduce myself and ask for their advice for building my new business. Pretty much all of them responded with encouraging words, sterling advice and lots of well wishes which was amazing. And having spoken with a few of them directly, there was a general feeling that being a solo groomer in your own salon can get a bit lonely (unless you like talking nonsense at dogs). A couple of the groomers have made client referrals to me which tells you how amazing and valuable this local network can be. This morning, I went and spent the morning with the amazing Eleanor at to assist in the groom of a giant breed Leonberger called Higgins. It was a great experience as I wouldn’t be able to groom this 70kg bad boy on my own, (although Eleanor was completely unfazed by his size) but it was also nice to have some time to talk shop with another solo groomer. Eleanor is a very inspiring groomer and business owner. What she has built in the last year is beyond impressive and has shown me that if you have the passion and the commitment, you can build your own success… and then some! If you have made it into her books as a client then you and your pup are very lucky indeed! Thanks so much for having me Eleanor x😘
Messy Jessie strikes again! She couldn’t resist chasing her ball into a cooling country brook with her pups (my children) and why not when the weather is so hot 🥵 Besides, she has an awesome dog groomer for a mum 💁♀️so she’s already back to looking her usual beautiful self 🐩…for now…🐾

Gorgeous Wiggy came for a much needed hand strip and bath. She’s back in for short time next week to finish off the areas which needed more work, but in the meantime, she definitely looks better after her tidy up! If your pup needs a summer styling then get in touch to book in!

Dinky Dinx came in for a full groom including bath, dry, deshed and natural trim. She was a little nervous but eventually she was nudging me to keep brushing whenever I stopped so I think she’s now a fan!
Dinx is a mix of springer/cocker spaniel and poodle but her stunning coat is very much spaniel. Some double coated breeds, such as spaniels, shouldn’t be shaved unless absolutely necessary for health reasons. A good deshed of the dead coat and a tidy up with scissors should be all they need to keep them looking their best!
To shave a coat like this can cause it to change in terms of colour, texture and density. It can also cause alopecia and can leave the dog prone to skin infections.
Handsome Harlow came in for his full groom - he was such a gent. Just stood there politely the whole groom 🤩
Lovely little Hazel came in for a full groom. She wasn’t a fan of being handled but we managed to get there with patience, treats, cuddles and eventually some assistance from her mum.
I always try to do all I can to make dogs in my care feel safe and relaxed, but not all dogs will love being groomed and every dog is different. Being a 1:1 groomer means each dog gets my full attention, so I can adapt to them to make them feel safe and comfortable and ultimately, improve their wellbeing by keeping them clean and healthy 🥰
Little Basher completed his puppy introduction this week with his big boy groom! He’s done great and I’m so proud of him! Ended up with enough hair to make my own mini Basher!
I offer my puppy introduction to pups from after their final jabs up to 6 months. It comprises of 3 visits to the salon to gently introduce them to the sounds, smells and sensations of being groomed and handled. If you are welcoming a new pup and want to get them started on a lifelong acceptance of grooming the get in touch to book in!

Wow, time flies when you’re grooming dogs! I FINALLY managed to pay in the donations raised by my daughter for Medical Detection Dogs at the Longford Park Dog Show in May. She raised a total of £38 selling dog balls and wrist bands from our stand so thanks to all of you who purchased and well done to my amazing daughter Emma for making that happen🥰!

Gorgeous Benji (aka Mr Wiggles) is one of my newest (and youngest) clients and he’s absolutely acing his progress in my puppy intro program (as well as that adorable puppy head tilt). He came in for his second puppy session for a bath and blow dry and left feeling as fluffy as a cloud and smelling amazing.
I offer a 3-session puppy introduction for pups from after they have had their final jabs up to the age of 6 months. This is designed to help them get used to the overwhelm of the noises, sensations and handling when being groomed, to ensure they have the opportunity to settle into it gradually, for a better lifelong relationship with being groomed. It takes a slow approach to get a puppy accustomed to all of this newness but it’s so important to do.
