Thank you to Phatkat Tattoos!!💜😻💜

I collect the food donations from Sainsbury's in Newton Stewart. I had noticed every now and then, we get a surge of lovely treats for our cats.

Thank you so much to this small business for doing so much to support local cat charities, of which there aren't enough!

Food, bedding toys are always welcomed to make life a little more comfy for our foster cats, whilst in our care.

Safe now

Mum and kittens have been caught by one of our volunteers and are being cared for by a kind resident until we can locate a pen for them.

In the meantime, sadly, the little white kitten isn't doing so well. So the family are off to the vets now, to be checked and given the appropriate treatments.

This is an out of hours call, but that's how the coin falls. We have a feeling there may be more vet bills to come for these little ones. It's clear they all need worming and possibly more.

Once again, cats are in need and at risk because their owners are not taking advantage of our neutering assistance and leaving their cats out on the street to breed.

Please don't leave it until your cat has kittens before thinking about neutering. There are sooo many more cats needing homes than there are homes on offer, we really don't need a surplus of kittens to add to the dire situation that cats and rescues find themselves in.

Healing thoughts for Ginge ❤️

UPDATE- we have had £120 donated since posting about Ginge. This will help towards his treatments, thank you to those who have supported his cause.
If you'd like to help us care for Ginge and other cats like him, please see details of how to do so below.

This is one of our beautiful foster cats Ginge.
He came into care, along with his sister Smokey, end of January after their owner had passed away. Always used to living in a very isolated, rural home, hence he's quite a fearful cat. We've done hours of behaviour work with him and he's been fantastic in his response. He's such a huge, gentle and loving cat.

Whilst in our care, we noted a mild heart murmur, nothing too much to worry about. Then we noted issues with his left eye. Dark patches indicated melanosis, which can turn to melanoma (cancer). After consulting several vets, it was decided the eye should be removed.

So with heavy heart, I took this beautiful boy to the vets today. They took great care with him and kept him cosy warm, after his operation, until I collected him. He's done ok, got through the operation. However, his body temperature is lower than it should be, so we have to keep him wrapped up and cosy, until his body warms up to it's normal 38° ....he's presently at 34°. This could be due to his low grade heart murmur and the fact he's such a giant of a cat. I suspect I'll be on night duty and sleeping on the floor beside him tonight! 😻

So send happy and warm thoughts his way and urge him on for a good recovery. He's had a really rough day.
We'll keep you posted and hope he's up and about tomorrow. He's back at the vets in the morning for a check up.
We anticipate it will take 2-3 weeks for him to recover. After which....he has a home waiting!💜😻💜🏡

Vet bills are the biggest expense our branch has. Times are hard and costs are going up for everyone.
If you feel you are able to support us and make a donation to help towards Ginge's eye operation today and our other cats medical needs, our bank details are below:

We all agree this is their album cover, but what's the band's name? 🤔

It's actually a lovely picture from one of our adopters, of three of the relocated boys from the colony we recently finished working on. They are obviously doing well 😁

Recognise this cat???

UPDATE- we believe this cat is owned from messages we've received. If the owner could PM us to confirm this we'd appreciate it. If a volunteer has ready been out, you may find your cat returns with one of our paper collars on. The reason for this is so we can get clarification from the owner and then close the case down.

This female tortie has been rummaging the bins around Knockcullie Road. Residents feel she has no home.

If you recognise her please get in touch, we'd like to know if there is an owner or not.

Help needed

Some of you may have been following our posts about a colony of cats in the region.

We were called to this site last year, to find an elderly lady trying to manage a colony of 30 cats and growing at her house.

To date we have finally neutered all 30 cats. The last one only today, called Mr Handsome and a tricky chap to catch, presently at the vets.

The site is very isolated and rural, as a result we have been not only trapping, but supporting in feeding routines. During this time we have also been trying to relocate some of the cats to bring the numbers down to a more manageable amount. Relocating such cats is always a challenge and is time consuming and expensive.

We had achieved a good number of relocations when sadly, the lady at the property took ill and passed away. It was our volunteer who was with her when she took ill and needed an ambulance. This volunteer has put blood, sweat and tears into this site in order to help the cats and the lady in residence. She has gone above and beyond what Cats Protection normally offer and really deserves a medal.

However, we are left with 13 cats to continue feeding and relocating and we have run out of food and funds.

We have transported cats as far afield as Cumbria and are due to transport 5 to Lockerbie on Friday. This takes money to pay for fuel.

We give our time for free, but we are asking for help to conclude this large situation we are dealing with.

Food donations
If you can donate cat food into our Sainsbury's box in Newton Stewart, never has there been a better time to do so.

To date this site has cost us over £2,000, half of our yearly budget for neutering. We have another large site pending after this, but our very small branch does not have the volunteers or the funds to keep addressing such large groups of cats. Without more local support we will struggle.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd like to thank Nim, who has stuck with this group of cats tirelessly, ensuring they all have a secure future. She has invested emotionally as well as given so much of her time.

Photos show the colony as it was and of Diamond the last female to be caught and neutered.

💜 💜 🐈 💜 💜

This is Tigger. She was part of the colony that we're working on relocating. They've been posted as semi domesticated; Tigger was the most friendly of them. She's gone to a family friend.

Here's the difference. She used to be feeding like this, with siblings and family. Now she lives like this!

There are still two pairs of cats that have no home lined up. These two pairs, are friendly. They need a patient human or two to take them on.

Is this your cat???

Update 23/4/24 - no owner found as yet or any information at all about this cat. Surely someone must recognise it.
The cat has been to the vets for a check, good news is the vet doesn't think she's pregnant, but may have an infection.
We are still seeking an owner.

This cat has been visiting a house in Cairnryan lately.
We are keen to find out if it has a home and owner.

It is a tabby cat, no white patches. Believed to be female and possibly pregnant.
It is not chipped unfortunately.

If you recognise this cat please get in touch.

Microchipping?

If your cat was to go missing, having your cat microchipped gives them the best chance of being reunited with you. Don't wait, speak to your vet about getting your pet cat microchipped. http://spr.ly/Microchipping

Do You Recognise This Cat?

Updated on previous post
UPDATE- An owner has been located for this cat, he doesn't live far away and has been using his feline charms to get food and shelter from local residents.
Had he been chipped, he could have been re united much sooner. Please chip your cats, we spend hours of valuable time trying to find owners of cats who are not chipped. An awful lot of reported cats do have owners and do live near by, rarely are they chipped. Some cats never get re united with owners because they are not chipped, they may spend the rest of their lives on the street far away or if they are lucky get taken in by a kind person.
For those of you in Newton Stewart, Creebridge vets offer very reasonable prices for chipping your cat. Get ahead of the game as this is going to become mandatory in the near future and I suspect prices will go up.
If you love your cat, get it chipped.

This male cat has been visiting various residents in and around Ash grove Drive in Newton Stewart for the past 6 months. He appears to have a good appetite!

He is neutered but not chipped.
He is all black, quite large.
He is shy initially, but within minutes, very friendly and likes to rub around legs and get petted.
He looks to be in very good condition and we are hoping he has a home near by.
He may come home with a paper collar on, if he does could the owner please let us know he is owned?

🐈🐈‍⬛⁉️Like a Kitty Challenge⁉️🐈‍⬛🐈

🌳🌳 SEEKING RURAL HOMES 🌳🌳

Once again we're looking for rural homes for outdoor-ish cats. These cats have had a really rough time. They were born outdoors, but allowed indoors a little. They've had no real beds, no feeding schedule, and then they lost their human 😿. They are now unanchored and need to find new homes 🏡 quickly, before they start wandering off and getting into mischief. ☠️

There are varying levels of domesticity, so I am hoping to home them accordingly. 🤞🏼

1️⃣ The 2 Youngest
These two would like an indoor home, with access to a safe outdoors. They would probably enjoy a family with older children. They take treats from hands; one of them accepts nose pokes. With a little time and patience they will become friendly pets.

2️⃣ Tiger & Tig
A little less trusting at the moment. They enjoy both the indoors and outdoors. If you can be patient they will come round to being wonderful pets in time.

3️⃣ The 2 Boys
These two are friendly, but they're not indoor cats. They would make good outdoor cats whether that be for a large land owner, or someone who lives in a safe area with suitable outhousing in their garden.

4️⃣ The 2 Girls.
Same as The 2 Boys. The 4 could actually go together. They're all familiar with each other.

5️⃣ The Outdoor Onlys
There are 5 others that would make very good outdoor only cats. One or two of them may have gone their own way already, so I'd like to line this home up asap. Please everybody. 🙏🏼

They have all been neutered.
The majority of them have had the Nobivac Tri Cat Trio first injection against cat flus.
They have all been treated for parasites, all be it a while ago.
The colony is free from FIV and FelV.

Please re-post this yourselves, and post to any cat groups you think might help.

Found cat at Castlebay Caravn Park

UPDATE- an owner has come forwards, this chap has been missing a while. Plans are now being made to catch him.

This large cat has been hanging around a lot, on the decking of a residents van at the Castelbay Caravan Park near Port Patrick.

It is a large black and white cat. No collar on. Mostly black with some white patches on its chest, muzzle and paws.
It is quite timid, but it can be petted for a very short burst, before it takes off.

If you have lost a cat like this or think you recognise the cat, please get in touch.
