Sundays are for rest.. or for dentalling my own horses! Today was only Ginny the Shetland as she has quite an old mouth and is done every 6 months. I have a busy week or so ahead getting the last horses of 2024 done ahead of the festive break!

IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT
From mid-April to the end of July 2025, I will be taking maternity leave as we welcome our first child. In the last week or two, I have emailed every single client who is due a dental during this period, with tailored advice and options for your routine dental next year. Please check your junk if you have not received this!
March and April are going to be hectic! Please message me ASAP to get booked in so I can accommodate as many people as possible ahead of my leave. August will be reserved for current clients only, and new clients will likely only be possible from September/October 2025. New clients are welcome up to April :)
As I enter the latter part of pregnancy, I will be a lot more generous with the horses I sedate. This is for my safety and to ensure I can preserve as much energy for dentalling rather than wrestling horses. Sedation is included as standard in your dental fee anyway so will incur no additional cost.

As a horse owner myself I know how important it is to trust those you choose to help look after your horses. This morning we had Fiona from out for some physio on the girls. Starlight has regular sessions to help her general fitness and strength, and Amy has had a tough year medically this year so we wanted to try and alleviate some chronic tension and issues she's been having. Fit for Function is a new venture for Fiona but she's been our physio for years! She mostly covers Cambridgeshire, parts of Suffolk and parts of Norfolk and spends a good 1.5-2 hours per horse ⭐

It's been great to support the Blackwater Farm Unaffiliated Horse Trials League 2024! I donated vouchers for dentals as prizes for competitors. Dentistry is one of the most important fundamental health aspects of keeping horses, and I want to help you keep your equines as healthy and comfortable as possible!
I actually have these three vouchers I printed as extras at home... I'm sure I'll find a use for them soon... 🌟🦷

November is pretty much fully booked - I am slotting people in if they are in the areas I am already visiting, but otherwise we are now looking at December and beyond. My own horses had a visit today from the lovely Emma Winward Equine Dentistry for their annual dental check-ups.

Horses need to have yearly (as a minimum) dental checks ups to keep their teeth in tip top shape so that they can properly grind up and extract all the nutrients from their food.

If your horses is having unexplained weigh loss or is struggling to put weight on, my top tip is to always consult a qualified equine dentist in the first instance to check for any dental issues which may be preventing your horse from eating correctly. Poor dental health means poor digestion

Started this Monday morning with a tooth extraction!
This little pony had food packing in her cheeks, making her look like a hamster! At her routine dental we identified a rather sick 208 which was displaced and had diastema either side of it - plenty of places for food to get stuck! She wasn't overly uncomfortable and we arranged to remove the tooth today. She had some sedation, a good amount of pain relief and local anaesthetic around the tooth before we wiggled it out. She'll be feeling much better now!

As an early warning, December is already filling up and I know some of my current clients are coming due that month too - with the holidays it does limit what days we have available. So if you know your horse is due in December please get in touch ASAP!

New scrub tops thanks to Jester Shirts ⭐
I much prefer working in scrubs and Nigel sourced these super soft and stretchy tops for me. And of course embroidered them perfectly! They even have pockets so I can't lose my pen - and Amy discovered a stash of carrots in there too 🥕

At the weekend I got to dental one of my favourite Redwings ponies, Merry, who is now in a guardian home 💕 He is an older boy who needs a little bit of additional dental care but it is always a pleasure to see him!
